NFT: ARod hits 3000! 1st Inning HR!

Dave in Hoboken : 6/19/2015 7:30 pm
Well, ARod hit 3000, a first inning, first pitch HR, to make it 1-0 Yanks. Top 2nd.

ARod has made a ton of money in his career. If he wants the ball that much, come to an agreement with the guy. If not, he keeps it. And I'm someone who doesn't whine and cry about ARod, but I don't blame a guy for trying to make a buck.
Good for you Alex..

Best individual Yankee Regular Season I've seen: A-Rod '07
Best individual Yankee Post-Season I've seen: A-Rod '09

Sure I find the guy to be a douche and a cheat. I've never liked A-Rod as a person, even before all the PEDs stuff. He was just always so fake and personally it wasn't hard to see right through him. But his personality and PEDs aren't going to wipe my memory away of what an amazing baseball player A-Rod was for the Yanks and MLB. The guy gave us Yankee fans a ton of great memories and bounced back this year against all odds to become a borderline All-Star at 3rd base.

One of the best baseball players of all-time.

Bug Selig and his bullshit administration knew about steroids and did nothing about it as long as they could profit from viewership, merch, tickets, tv rights, etc.

And now, we have a weird and uninformed generation of assclowns who blame a guy like ARod. Fuckin ARod. Yet we have players like Ortiz from the Red Sox lauded as some sort of cult hero.

It's a complete joke. Bug got out just in time for Manfred to clean up SOME of the mess.

just got back from the game
PaulBlakeTSU : 6/19/2015 11:34 pm : link
and it was tremendous to see live. I had a great view from a friend's suite. First patch fastball off Verlander, one of the best pitchers of the last decade (even if it was his first game back and he hasn't been the same.pitcher that dominated the AL a few years ago).

The ballpark wasn't packed at that point the way it obviously would have for Jeter, but it was still really loud and he got a great ovation. I didn't hear a single boo.

It was classic power Arod driving it to right field. Great to see. Until a few weeks ago, he had the longest HR hit of the season. He's now at #3 behind Stanton and Joc Pederson.

ARod is a weirdo who would be a loser if not for being one of the greatest athletes of a generation. I imagine he is having the time of his life right now. Baseball is his first and greatest love and obsession and to be away from the game for as long as he was, everyday probably feels like bliss for him. I hope his production continues all season because the Yankees are going to need it.

who caught the ball is a real douche. I wouldn't give the ball to ARod either I would sell it to him, but I've seen that jackass trample kids to get balls in the past. Every game he goes to he gets there as soon as gates open and runs as fast as he can to the outfield seats to gather up as many baseballs as possible.

Fuck him, I can't believe that jerkoff got the ball. He was a douche long before tonight.
he absolutely
PaulBlakeTSU : 6/20/2015 12:10 am : link
should not just give the ball back. it's a very valuable property, and likely worth about $50,000. This is nothing personal against ARod, but he has made hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars in his career. He could pay ten times the highest bidder for the ball and never notice the difference in his bank account.

When Arod signed his mega deals, he didn't apologize for how much money he made or how big the contracts were because he had every right to try and get as much money as someone thought he was worth. When you go to a game, tickets are expensive and concession prices are unconscionable. Why? Because they have the product in the demand and they are maximizing their profits.

Well, it has been made clear that balls hit into the stands become the property of the fans who catch them. So why should the fan not be entitled to get the most value out of what he has?

he should be
MookGiants : 6/20/2015 12:16 am : link
but the guy's just a douche, I wish someone else besides him caught the ball. Any grown man who tramples kids to get foul balls/home runs is a jerkoff. And he's done it plenty of times before, in plenty of cities. Fuck him.
maybe Jeter
MookGiants : 6/20/2015 12:19 am : link
did take care of the kid who caught his 3k ball, but it has always bothered me that Jeter seemingly just took that ball for some signed memorabilia. He should have paid the kid what the ball was worth. Yeah the kid didn't ask for that but Jeter easily could have done that and it would have been like you or me giving the guy 100 dollars.
Oh
PaulBlakeTSU : 6/20/2015 12:25 am : link
I can't speak to that. It seems like a crazy obsession of his and I don't understand how he has a lifestyle that supports this passion/obsession.

I do think that him running around and jumping trying to catch as many balls as possible during batting practice is childish and greedy, especially for something that's worthless except for being a nice memento for some of the fans who go early. At some point.

I'm merely talking about once he caught the Arod ball. At that point, it's his property and his valuable asset and I think the compulsion that people have to give it back to these blessed, uber rich, superstars is a strange concept.
I read
PaulBlakeTSU : 6/20/2015 12:30 am : link
that the auctioneer who sold Arod's 500th ball for over $100,000 valued the 3000th hit at $50,000. That is the median household income in New York City. Let's say the average guy caught it. He just caught his salary for the year, and he's supposed to just give it back for free to a guy who has made $378 million in his career baseball salaries, due another $42mm over the next two years? Get out of here.

I read quotes where he said he hasn't decided if he's going to sell it yet.

Seriously, fuck him. Read articles about how many balls he has gotten. Then think about how much of a fucking douche he has to be to get all of them. Instead of kids getting those balls, he's trampling them and running like a fucking 12 year old as soon as the gates open to get to the stands to collect as many balls as possible. Fuck him. Any grown man who goes after baseballs like he does should be kicked square in the nuts repeatedly.

You're 100% right, the athletes should pay the market value for the ball, they have no right to it otherwise. Jeter gave that kid some memorabilia that wasn't worth even 5% what the ball would have fetched on the open market and somehow didn't seem bothered by it. That still rubs me the wrong way, how could a multi mllionaire take that ball off of that kid for maybe 5% of its value. That kid should have had his loans paid off for that ball, whether it was from Jeter or someone else. Ridiculous.

Like it or Lump it AROD staying away from as much hoopla as possible is driving the media crazy, and is turning into a feel good story around baseball. His teammates seem to be ok with it.

The guy who caught the ball seems, the old AROD-like in his reaction and posts etc. Who knows many he thinks it would help his book sales, help launch his blog, but first impression makes me think it has accomplished the opposite.

Before I knew about who he was actually pondered downloading his book to my kindle, now will pass.

Funny how the coin flips sometimes.

I recall McGuire quite openly using whatever he took as it was in his locker for everyone to see no ? Shortly afterward its when it became so much more. Then everything snowballed.

Barry Bonds tripled in size, wore armour to the plate, etc.

Although a mute point I like to look at the "at bats" when records are broken, just to be curious.

Ruth at bats were so low compared to other top HR hitters.
Rose need something like 1500 more at bats just to tie Cobb

Yes records are made to be broken, but it will be interesting to see if Bonds or others from this tainted era make the hall, or if they do will it be with interesting comments on display. Maybe Tropicana and have a JUICE wing.

I missed the game. I'm sitting here today watching the Jays/O's game and the announcers are talking about Tony Pena backing away and refusing to slap hands with ARod as he rounded 1st base. Is that true? If so, that's F'n bullshit. I could care less what Penas opinion is of ARod or anyone else. Although it's a joke that the guys of the 70's act as though they were all saints. But anyways, ARod hit a HR to help the Yankees take the lead in a ballgame. Does that not matter to Pena? Isn't the object supposed to be to win the game?

Again, I don't care who Tony Pena does and doesn't like or respect. When a player on your team hits a HR, that helps your team. If Pena is so antonARod that he can't celebrate team success because of him, perhaps he should resign?

A few thoughts
Matt M. : 6/20/2015 5:43 pm : link
1) With or without steroids, it is still a great accomplishment.

2) That said, I am very torn about him. It is not like he cheated for a few years. A lot of reports have him using since his early days in Texas. Almost his entire career is tainted. Now, he is still super talented, so even if you knock off about 10-20%, he's still had a great career.

3) This season is very impressive for having missed a season and a half and at his age.

4) The kid that caught the ball - Most of these thousands of balls he caught were batting practice

5) I think he's an asshole. I am not saying he has to do anything. But, his whole story is merely self serving and attention whoring. Whether you like A-Rod or not, this kid is just an ass.
I liked the trade for Headley last year

I did not like the re-signing.
I am very disappointed in the Yankee organization
Matt M. : 6/20/2015 5:50 pm : link
They have become petty and embarrassing. By dumb luck, the one game a season I went to a couple of years ago was Jeter's 3000th hit on tickets purchased weeks in advance. Last night was again the one game I went to with my son on tickets purchased weeks in advance as a fund raiser for his little league. Even factoring in the living legend status of Jeter, the contrast of how the Yankees as an organization handled these days was drastic.

They couldn't stop the congratulations, mentions on the scoreboard, etc. and then had a whole spread of shirts on the ready. There were more generic DJ3K shirts that we got, plus shirts they only put out on that day, which I plan to have framed with the ticket.

Last night, there was a quick congratulations message, nothing else, and nothing to commemorate the accomplishment. They can whine all they want about not paying his bonus as unmarketable. But, it is their refusal to market these milestones that makes them unmarketable. Plenty of people were purchasing A-Rod items and had they had anything secial there would have been lines. This line in the sand is about nothing but the new wave of Steinbrenners' cheapness.

McGuire was openly using andro, but not openly using steroids, which andro is used to mask.

As for Bonds, In think he absolutely deserves to be in the HOF. He was a HOFer before he ever allegedly used. His vanity is the supposed reason he used to prove a point to shallow fans, which I think he did.

and the crowd was certainly into it. However, it was not a sell out. Not even close. In fact, the secondary market saw only a small bump after Thursday's game once he got within one hit of 3,000. If this was Jeter, demand would have been through the roof. That, to me, is indicative of how A-Rod's accomplishments are being viewed by many fans. Plenty don't care, but plenty do.

This was also my first game this year, so I had a question about security. Have you been to other games this year? The snaking lines just to get to the security checkpoints to get through the doors is new. Is that new for the season, or new last night? It seriously delayed getting in the park. We got there about 6:30 and barely made it in for the start. I have never waited that long to get in the park. Not for the game that Jeter went for 3000, not for playoff games, not for opening day. It seemed like most people didn't know what was going on, so I just wondered when this was implemented.
