and it was tremendous to see live. I had a great view from a friend's suite. First patch fastball off Verlander, one of the best pitchers of the last decade (even if it was his first game back and he hasn't been the same.pitcher that dominated the AL a few years ago).
The ballpark wasn't packed at that point the way it obviously would have for Jeter, but it was still really loud and he got a great ovation. I didn't hear a single boo.

You're 100% right, the athletes should pay the market value for the ball, they have no right to it otherwise. Jeter gave that kid some memorabilia that wasn't worth even 5% what the ball would have fetched on the open market and somehow didn't seem bothered by it.
