The latter is based upon reviews from critics who saw the first three episodes and really didn't like it. The former is from personal experience and excellent reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Pretty decent last year--I liked it more than most--but pretty much everyone seems to enjoy it this year, so far.
Fast-paced, great characters, well written.

Hopefully the writing and directing will stay at the same high level.
BTW, does anyone know why Vaughn's character in Wedding Crashers was constantly stuffing his face? It seemed to be some sort of theme but I never caught any significance. Other than maybe the line in Entourage when Eric says "Vince Vaughn, that puffy m-fer?" ;)
I also was puzzled by the IBM storyline where Compaq and Columbia Data are specifically mentioned. Like they had already pulled off the IBM-clone thing. If so why does the show act like our heroes were trying to pull off something totally original and maybe impossible? Made no sense.
As far as True Detective, loved the first 5 or so episodes but thought it fell off badly. In hindsight, I think McConaughey and Harrelson elevated ordinary material. Doubt that Vince Vaughn and company will do the same. It's a dubious model for a TV show. Whole new cast, setting and storyline each season.
i actually completely disagree with this. i think this could be a model that lasts forever if done right. Same theme but everything else is different. It is the best way to keep a franchise running without running out of material or going off the deep end to keep viewers interested. It is the one thing I was excited about with the True Detective premise.
And you are never going to get the quality of actors that would be willing to do 10 shows wH and MM vs trying to get them to commit to several seasons.
The downside of the model is that every year you are taking the risk of a new show, trying to win viewers with the first pilot or show. So in that respect you are right, you are trading years 2 to N of a successful venture to start anew.
I hate the opening song. wtching it now
