Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Braves and Diamondbacks have agreed on a trade which is sending Bronson Arroyo and pitching prospect Touki Toussaint to Atlanta and infielder Phil Gosselin to Arizona.
Arroyo, currently sidelined after undergoing Tommy John surgery last July, is owed $9.5 million for the 2015 season plus a $4.5 million buyout for ’16. Arroyo may be available to join the Braves’ rotation in August, but Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic notes that his recovery from surgery has been slow and has been trying to overcome elbow discomfort in recent weeks.
Toussaint, 19, was considered the fifth-best prospect in the Diamondbacks’ organization and was one of baseball’s top-100 going into the 2015 season. In 39 innings at Single-A Kane County, Toussaint posted a 3.69 ERA and a 29/15 K/BB ratio. He was the club’s first-round selection, 16th overall, in the 2014 draft.
The Diamondbacks appear to be concerned with clearing Arroyo’s $14 million remaining salary, but they signed a TV deal believed to be worth more than $1 billion back in February. That they gave up one of their best prospects to save $14 million seems rather curious.
and what a douche move Tabata to steal the perfecto from him. He'll get his for that and he may eat it from multiple sources. That said, kudos to him for being willing to fight dirty to steal the perfecto. Consistent with his character at least.
The Zona trade is a head-scratcher. Toussaint for a backup infielder? Are they going broke or something?
I agree. If i was scherzer next time he gets a 97mph to the back. Pussy
Congrats to Scherzer
Holy cr@p. I can't remember a better two-game performance. Johnny Vander Meer was before WWII.
