NFT: Comic Book Movie News: Affleck to star in & direct Batman.

It sounds as if Ben Affleck might be bringing some gravitas behind the camera to go along with his gravelly on-screen voice in his portrayal of Batman. A new rumor has surfaced suggesting that Affleck will not only play the vigilante in Warner Bros.’ Batman v Superman and both Justice League films; he’ll also be directing himself in The Batman, a standalone film due out in 2018.

With the additional news that Chris Terrio has been appointed as the film’s screenwriter.

With SDCC coming up there will be tons of rumors & news.. so I thought I'd make one big thread instead of countless threads in the past lol

what's the history
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 6/24/2015 2:55 pm : link
of people who are both Actor and Director for a project with a budget like this? Has it even happened for a movie with this kind of budget?

It's amazing how many Billions of dollars are riding on Affleck's performance as Batman.

Well, we don't know what the budget of the movie is yet. Probably fewer stars than the Other DC movies, so not as high.

Affleck did star and direct in Argo.
This whole DC approach to their franiches is a TRAINWRECK

After The Avengers pulled in a record breaking box office 4 years ago, Warner Bros\DC Comics made the worst call possible.

Marvel Studios showed DC what the proper blue print was. Build on the individual character franchises, have some minor cross film cameos\post credit scenes. Put in ALL their efforts in making those individual franchises successful. Then put them all together in a blockbuster team up mega movie like The Avengers.

Instead, we got Warner Bros\DC Comics going the opposite direction. They will be cramming 4-5 Justice League members into Batman vs Superman film. Then scale back the individual films in the coming years, followed up quickly with another Justice League film.

I simply have no faith in Warner Bros\DC Comics in pulling this off.
Plus what happens with Flash and Green Arrow???
NYG27 : 6/24/2015 3:45 pm : link
As well as CW has developed both TV series Flash and Arrow, a big part of their success are tied to the actors playing those title roles.

If they re-cast both Flash and Green Arrow for the upcoming film franchises, I think that will be another mistake.
The Flash has already been cast...
Italianju : 6/24/2015 3:53 pm : link
its ezra miller. No word on Green Arrow in the movie universe yet. DC has always said that their TV universe and Movie universe is separate. I do wonder if they would ever do something crazy and merge the two universes in some sort of major story line. Comics do it all the time.

I dont think DC had to do it the way that Marvel did it. If DC makes good movies this way can work to. Everyone says that they are cramming all the characters into BvS but supposedly the other justice league members other then the holy trinity have extremely small cameos. The latest rumor was that batman I think breaks into lexcorp and is watching some videos and they show the Flash doing something and Aquaman in some sort of cell. Thats it.

I dont have high expectations of this, but its more because im not sure DC can make a good movie that is so worried bout being dark and gritty and "real". I dont watch comic book movies for realism. That said if this fails that will be why, not cause they didnt do it the exact same way marvel did.

That would be cool. Crisis on Infinite Earths
If he directed and they casted another Batman
UConn4523 : 6/24/2015 5:16 pm : link
I'd be a lot more interested in this. He's just a miserable actor and I don't care what the format is. He's a dud in everything he does.
Of course after a great batman you have to have another bad one

Hollywood is so predictable. Find a great franchise, Make Money, Re-boot, Re-peat.
couldn't care less

Affleck is a floater and I can't stand watching him on screen. Him in a batsuit is out of the question. Might as well cast Damon as Superman.
Well, I hope his Batman is at least

I think the big mistake was turning everything over to Christopher Nolan. They felt like he'd saved Batman, he was The Guy.

Then Nolan pretty much let Zack Snyder turn Man of Steel into a Zack Snyder movie, which just wasn't a good idea in the first place.

The Bvs:DoJ teaser did not make me want to see that movie.

Affleck might be a big improvement. Pretty smart guy.

continues to be the only role Affleck has ever been good in as an actor
Look at the Spiderman franchise
EdS56 : 6/24/2015 9:27 pm : link
That's worse than anything. Now they have a new guy for Spiderman for the reboot of a reboot of a reboot plus Captain America Civil War.

TommyWiseau : 6/25/2015 6:28 am : link
A good actor although Superman is a dull character. Damon would have made a good Captain America IMO. Anyway, Affleck sucks as an actor but his directing is pretty good. I agree that DC is going about their movies the wrong way, Marvel did it right... Why not copy their blueprint?

The recasting of The Flash is beyond dumb, it would have been fine if they made the movie flash a different version like Wally or something. I believe TV Flash and movie Flash are both Barry Allen. Now what do they do if this kid Ezra isn't as good as Grant on the TV show?
DC has been clear from the get go..
Italianju : 6/25/2015 8:51 am : link
that the TV and movie universe is different. I def agree that its stupid to have two Barry Allen's running around. Especially when there are a bunch of different flash's they could have chose from. Plus they obviously care what goes on in the TV universe in comparison to the movies because they have basically told Arrow not to use the suicide squad anymore because of the movie coming out.

Well he played himself in Town. Same whiz breakout role in Good Will Hunting. Its not acting if you are basically playing your own personality. I don't hate him for his success but as many here state, he's a horrendous actor with zero to offer that makes me go see anything he's done.

Can't see going top anything he does w DC even if I love the genre.

Thank god they recast Barry Allen for the movies. I love the show, but Grant Gustin is atrocious. He is the worst part of the show. I actually almost gave up on it 4 or 5 episodes in because I couldn't stand him, but I am glad I was able to get used to it and look passed it because the show is really good.

Outside of the Batman movies...
Jan in DC : 7/2/2015 11:59 am : link
I've just avoided DC movies. Superman doesn't do anything for me as a character and I can't stand Zack Snyder. His movies may be pretty, but they're all hollow.

You know, it's funny, Captain America isn't really that interesting of a character either, but Marvel has essentially used the character to do a superhero take on different genres. First was a Historical drama, second a spy movie. That's probably why those movies interest me more than seeing Alien guy grows up on a farm and moves to the big city for the 3rd or 4th time.
After seeing Daredevil on Netflix
RobCarpenter : 7/2/2015 1:47 pm : link
it's hard for me to want to see any of the DC movies. Avengers Age of Ultron was a mess.

Marvel nailed it out of the park with Daredevil, the best depiction of a comic I've ever seen. Almost made me forget that I watched Affleck as Daredevil.

Affleck also commented on the fact that his Batman is much older than the ones we’ve seen on screen before. “He’s at the end of his run and maybe the end of his life. There’s this sort of world-weariness to it.”

Speaking of the Justice League, Wonder Woman’s role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will help set all that up. “She plays a super-important part,” Snyder said. “In a lot of ways, she’s the gateway drug to the rest of the Justice League.”

It’s a little surprising to hear that the script for Justice League is already done, but maybe once Zack Snyder and Chris Terrio started working on the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice script they just kept going. Entertainment Weekly says the two locked themselves in a room with lots of Diet Coke and plotted the story visually, like a giant cave painting. “Chris would talk and I would draw and it was basically this weird mural of the movies with no words,” Snyder explained.

In an extended online interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ben Affleck talks about how Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will focus on the Man of Steel ending, and even reveals the real reason why Batman may have a problem with Superman.

“One of the things I liked was Zack’s idea of showing accountability and the consequences of violence and seeing that there are real people in those buildings,” says Affleck. “And in fact, one of those buildings was Bruce Wayne’s building so he knew people who died in that Black Zero event.”

How in the world was Grant atrocious as Barry Allen? I think he did a very fine job and hoped they'd use him in their DC movie-verse.

As another person stated, if you are recasting the Flash, introduce him as either Wally West or Bart Allen.
