NFT: If you had to live off food from a country for life.....

DukeGIants : 6/26/2015 1:49 pm
What country? Me? Peru, easily.

I'm not quite sure why Americans are not familiar with Peruvian food but IMO it's the best food in the world. They have a variety of foods and their seafood is the best. Ceviche, there most popular dish, is something I can eat everyday. Probably my most favorite dish. It is raw fish cured in lemon or lime juice.

Their drinks, desserts, and fruit are the best in the world as well.

We are at Vineria Modi Taormina a very small restaurant near Hotel Belvedere. I'm Sicilian by ancestry and this is the area where my father's side is from. Our name here is like Smith in the U.S.! My wife, not Italian or Sicilian, says this is the best vacation spot she has ever gone to.

I don't remember if we tried that restaurant. I'll have to remember to check our album from Italy when I get home. We stayed at the Hotel Villa Schuler. If I'm not mistaken, the Belvedere is one we anted to stay at.

But Korean food is the way to go. A lot of delicious grilled meat, fresh and picked vegetables, and most of all kimchi.

What happens when you run out of dogs though?

Silly American. I've shared this before, but it's you American tourists, who actually eat more dogs in Korea than actual Koreans. You think it's some crazy adventure. Most Koreans don't even eat (or have ever eaten) dogs these days.

But seriously, when was the last time you had Korean bbq? Wasn't it fucking awesome?

Motherf'er! If I wasn't such a fan of Vietnamese cousin myself, I would be offended...:)

There's actually a very strong tie between S.Korea and Vietnam since the time of the Vietnam War. And yes, Koreans love some Vietnamese food.

One kind of food though...Italian. No second place.

Actually food in Edinburgh is excellent. Game and seafood are two of my favorite things and the country has both in spades, and there are excellent options from the former Empire (Indian in particular). And haggis done right isn't bad. But generally speaking it wouldn't be on the top of my list.

is off the menu, since it is an amalgamation of other countries.... If not, sign me up for USA (especially since it is the food I am in all likelihood going to eat for the rest of my life)

Gotta go with German. I'll miss the pizza, but I'm guessing they have some sort of melted cheese dish that will fill the void.

It has to be something with meat. not tiny little pieces of meat mixed in with 90% filler. meat. so brazilian might work, too. especially if the waitresses serve it with their brazilian wax jobs showing.

It has been said that the only distinctly American cuisine is barbecue. I don't know whether or not that is true. Certainly some regional cuisine, such as Cajun, draws heavily on outside influences but is distinctive.

How to define barbecue, seriously? They ate wine-soaked charred meats in the Illiad, so. . .
Easy. England

I love Indian food.
there's a lot of 'american' food
fkap : 6/27/2015 7:28 pm : link
but it's adapted.
pizza here is only generically comparable to what is made in Italy. As was said on the other thread about 'best' pizza, no such thing as what a pizza is supposed to be. so, is the american pizza (pick your style) american or italian?

Is corned beef american, or irish (where beef wasn't corned, or popular, in the sense americans think)?

Hot dogs? an american invention, or just another form of sausage. and when does a sausage change from chorizo to keilbasa?

the list can go on and on.
only cuisine
pjcas18 : 6/27/2015 7:54 pm : link
I don't like is Indian.

If forced to pick, I'd probably pick Italy, so many reasons.

but if I got Vietnamese (my 2nd pick), American, Spanish, Greek, Portuguese, French, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian, Middle Eastern (just grouping all ME together), I wouldn't starve and I'd live happily ever after.

As long as it's not Indian.
For all the foods I've ever had
mrvax : 6/27/2015 7:57 pm : link
and I really like a lot of them, forced to select one, I'd go French. It's no wonder why their chefs and recipes are considered the world's finest.

I'm sure that I'd be trying to get some pizza or cheese burgers on the side though. lol
Or sushi.

I suspect it's the spice, curry, that you are not fond of. I dislike cilantro, it tastes terrible to me.

Amazing how everyone's tastes in food vary so much. I am glad that nice semi-crispy bacon is considered the best tasting food in the world.
it's mostly the traditional Indian curry found in the US
pjcas18 : 6/27/2015 8:30 pm : link
but what's weird is I love almost all the Thai Curry I have had, I know curry is a broad term, and carries multiple definitions and tastes, but Indian curry doesn't smell good to me.

but it's also the sauces they smother everything with.

the only dish I like is Tandoori Chicken, but the unusual reddish color of the chicken turns me off.
