Starting from Day 1 is the biggest thing; not too many of the top defensive picks will do that. (Fowler is hurt; Williams has vets ahead of him, etc.) And if Spagnuolo revives the Giants defense, there will be a ton of media attention.

Agreed starting day one is a huge advantage.

only 1 DB has won DROY, Charles Woodson in 1998, in a weak draft class. Woodson was the 4th overall pick that year, for the Raiders.

Heck even Ronnie Lott didn't win DROY, and his rookie year was a top 10 all time...

Lotsa LBs earn DROY.
