"I think all of us, we get kind of caught up in the day-to-day and the grind, and it can kind of wear you down, but all of a sudden that's taken away and I'm like 'Research projects? I'll do research projects!' " Sullivan said. "I've got a history with [Giants offensive assistants] Sean Ryan, Pat Flaherty, and Kevin Gilbride, those guys busted my chops a little bit. Every single day here was special to me, and I enjoyed it, but when you see how things were done in other places, I just appreciate everything here so much more than I did."

After one-year hiatus, quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan thrilled to be back with Giants, Eli Manning - ( New Window )
This was such an under the radar addition to the team

That I think could have a huge impact. Eli had his best season under Sullivan and I am excited to see him back.

seems to be this is the year Eli can carry this football team. he's got an All Time Great receiver, he's got his security blanket Cruz, he's got his 3rd down back and he's flourishing in the new O
Come on...

Slooooooooooow Down Kemosabe
In years past, I thought coach Coughlin's biggest weakness
Ira : 6/27/2015 10:28 am : link
was his hiring and sticking with mediocre assistants. Now, in the past two seasons, we've seen the hiring and rehiring of two very good coordinators. Adding Mike Sullivan to work with Eli is another good move which adds quality to our coaching staff.

Eli played very good ball when he worked with Sully

Agreed..Remember when it was dissed on here when he was first appointed several years ago? "A WR coach to coach Eli?" :)
Is it me,
Doomster : 6/27/2015 11:30 am : link
or is it the receivers, the OL, and RB's, that are more important than a QB coach, especially at this stage of Eli's career?

I am interested
AnishPatel : 6/27/2015 11:35 am : link
in seeing how Sully learns this system and how Eli does, in general, in his 2nd year in this system.
Eli has a damn fine statistical season last year
Torrag : 6/27/2015 11:58 am : link
Something was missing on third down though. And in the two and four minute drill situations. For me it was the pass protection broke down when the heat was on. Could be more of the same if we can't square the O-line away.
I am not worried
AnishPatel : 6/27/2015 12:05 pm : link
about pressure. I think now in year 2, Eli knows more about the system. So things will process quicker. I think he will get the ball out quicker to everyone and can use S. Vareen as an outlet. Someone said that there are plays where he is the first read. I have faith in Ben M. to protect eli. So if things are tough throughout the game, I think he will move the pocket like he did last season.

So, I am not worried about pass protection. I am more worried about run blocking which put us in long down and distances.

I agree year two should help Eli in multiple ways. QB pressure is still the number one factor in deterring efficiency. He isn't a miracle worker. We have to protect better in obvious passing situations. This offense has elite potential. It won't be fully realized if the line struggles imo.
Barring injury - I think the Offensive line is going to be better

than most of you think - and that while their may be growing pains - the up tempo pace will offset a lot of that.
Sullivan seemed like a good fit in Gilbrides system,
wgenesis123 : 6/27/2015 12:37 pm : link
now under a differant system, well who knows. Will the coach teach Eli or will Eli teach the coach? I am glad he is back because I remember reading an interview with Eli when Sullivan was his new QB coach and Eli seemed really happy to work with him.

That's the thing, if we can't protect or protect in an efficient way, we can still function. We can move the pocket. We can run more 3 step drops or levels like we did last season. Probably see more conservative play calling which drove fans crazy in the game day threads. Perhaps just call a run play on 3rd and 9 instead of trying to throw it to get a first down. That was amusing to see the reaction of fellow fans. "Why aren't we trying to get a fucking first down!?!?"

I actually loved that about Ben M. Don't put the fucking QB in a situation where he may force shit and the resulting play end up as an INT. He protected Eli and our OL in that manner.

I expect us to be better this year, and if we do get pressured I expect that's where the RB can be a factor in pass pro and catching the ball as a dump off.

I am not worried about that aspect, Iam more worried about run blocking which may put us in 2nd and 12 or 3rd and 12.
Given last years 3rd down and pressure situation passing efficiency

You should be more worried than you appear to be imo.
When Sullivan became Eli's QB coach, he introduced
BlueLou : 6/27/2015 3:40 pm : link
"innovative" drills that forced Eli to throw from various positions that were unplanned. Off the wrong foot, across the body, whatever, it was reported here on BBI but not in that level of detail. Now we understand how in Macadoo's WCO Eli has had to change his footwork, and learn new concepts or at least executions of timing and footwork.

Having Sully coach Eli now, within Macadoo's larger framework is bound to be very interesting indeed.

Looking forward to the results.

No, I am not worried based on the stuff Ben M. was doing as I said above. If it occurs again, I am curious to see what we do to scheme against it. That's one thing about Ben M. I respected. He helped protect Eli in year 1 by the way he designed plays from moving the pocket left and right, and getting rid of the ball quickly. In year 2, I expect Eli to have the mental part down and process things even quicker. That's why I am not worried.

When Sullivan was the QB coach
Jay on the Island : 6/28/2015 11:23 am : link
Eli seemed to move around the pocket to evade pressure better than anytime in his career. People forget how poorly the offensive line played in 2011 when they won the Superbowl.

'Scheme' will only get you so far in this league imo. You need talent first and foremost. I know the FO is infusing young talent in the O-line but the Beatty injury is a setback. We'll be relying on a rookie LT and a journeyman RT that is several years removed from performing well. If you aren't somewhat concerned with our ability to protect in obvious passing situations you're taking a very optimistic position.

I agree, Beatty injury was a kick in the nuts, but at least it happened so early in the game and not like week 2 where we would be in trouble. We had mini camp, OTA, and now have all of training camp and pre season to figure things out. So yeah the situation is bad, but we have a chance to rectify it.

Rookie we will see how it all unfolds. I see the coaches are doing their best by giving him 1st and 2nd team reps. Now he has all of training camp and pre season. Let's see how things work when we have Pugh help him out. We can always slide the protection over or like Isaid move the pocket.

I said in another thread I think we make a signing still, like Jake Long, if he checks out. So let's see who we keep in touch with and who can pass their physical.

The scheme helps big time. True it can only get you so far but that distance is damn good. If this was the Gilbride system I'd be a lot more nervous Fucking 5 and 7 step drop would be ashit show. However, in this system like Isaid Iam not worried. The WCO offense relies on the two guards and center. In a system where you are throwing 5 and 7 step drop passing concepts you need the tackles a lot more. That's why we ran a lot of levels last season. If we had time we'd go deeper if not we got rid of it quicker.

Re-watch some of the games or even youtube videos if you have it. The system and what Ben M. did was great. He won my respect in year 1 with the things he did.

I am more of a realist, and so far all that doesn't bother me as much as run blocking does. If we can't get positive yards running the ball it will put us in longer d/d. That would annoy the shit out of me. Pass blocking I am not as worried about. Now if we start going 5 and 7 step drops then I'd quickly be worried. We tried that the first Eagles game and got owned.

as long as we stay healthy (Please God) will be huge, the question will be can Spags put a defense on the fiel that can be top 10-12

we do that, we are in the playoffs and I'll take my chances
