Well, maybe, they're tiny little Martians. They visited Earth and realized Earthlings were larger so they just changed the measurements on all the tech they passed on.

Not only is it not a thing, it's a not-a-thing that was a thing a while ago, and then turned out to be not a thing, and there have been articles about how people thought it was a thing but it's not a thing.
