- West still viewed as "very likely"
- Wade-2. The Knicks (Chance: 10 percent). You hear the Knicks name bandied about some because of their approximate $27 million in cap space and Wade's friendship with Carmelo Anthony. But, again, would a rebuilding team sink big money into an aging Wade? The Knicks would be more apt to go after Detroit free agent Greg Monroe, 25. But if they don't get him, Wade could be a short-term stop-gap and provide some sizzle in Madison Square Garden.
Raissman-Collins’ critique of Jackson was a spool of cotton candy compared to the tirade Adam Schein launched on SXM radio. This got personal. He called all Jackson’s soliloquies “cringe inducing,” adding that even one more day of Jax as Knicks prez will be disastrous for the franchise.
“Phil Jackson needs to resign,” Schein demanded on SXM’s Mad Dog Radio. “He has been an horrendous executive.”
Schein appeared to soften a tad when he described Jackson as “absolutely tone deaf,” “clueless” and “irresponsible.”
“Phil Jackson cashes a check from Jim Dolan,” Schein said. “Other than that, he does nothing.” On the contrary, being a condescending jerk takes enormous energy. It’s a lot more than doing “nothing.” Please, give Phil credit for something.

When Fegan tried to orchestrate a trade that would send Cousins to the Los Angeles Lakers in the days leading up to the draft – one that Kings owner Vivek Ranadive gave him permission to pursue when he made it clear that Cousins wanted out – it wouldn't have shocked anyone if Divac decided to do the deal just to quiet this storm. Instead, he's trying to fix a fractured situation on his terms.
I think the next steps are to bring in West (2/14), Monroe (5/80), and a FA SG (Danny Green?) (5/40)
That should use up just about all of our cap space this year, but we'd have a pretty decent team:
Monroe
West
Melo
Green
Calderon
Zinger
Galloway
Grant
And then another 25 mil in cap space next season.
I didn't know that. That's even better.

That is definitely a good start, and I think if they add the right pieces to fill out the roster they should be able to compete for the 8th seed in the East. Hopefully Grant is able to overtake Calderon in the starting line up, because I think the combination of West, Melo, and Calderon is going to be a train wreck defensively.
This team really just needs to add a couple good starters in FA and it will be easy to feel a lot better about next offseason. Assuming melo is healthy and it seems like he will be he is still one of the better players in this league, i feel like people forget that sometimes.
2. they have an idea who they are getting in free agency, Monroe or Jordan, both would be good fits next to west and Porzingis...
3. West feels Knicks will be a playoff team next year, why give up money at 35 to go to a team that is rebuilding?
4. If i am the Knicks i target Jordan and Green...both young and both good fits next to Melo and Porzingis...
plus when Melo is done you have good young core pieces to build around...
Calderon/Grant
Green/Galloway
Melo/Early
West/Porzingis
Jordan
But the Daily News piece is nuts. It's just a personal attack. Knicks are thinking smarter and longer term than at any time in like 20 years. Even more so than the prep for the summer of LeBron (that was a one time short term opportunity to bid on tons of great UFAs; and we gave away ZBO for nothing).
This isn't toward any poster here. This is just the media in general.
Funny since the off season just began and everyone thought he had a great draft....
Phil Jackson wouldn't be getting nearly as much attention if he was the GM of Portland or Orlando or Milwaukee...or even LA (at least negative attention).
Phil gets an insane amount of illogical hate because he's the GM of NY. Plain and simple.
Guy moved to New York....he was at every prospect workout, he went to vegas for Poringis workout, he went to Kentucky, Duke, and Ohio state games to recruit....He went to Chicago for combine...
What more do you want from the guy?

Career per 36 minute numbers: 13 ppg, 10.5 RPG, 2.6 apg, 2.1 bpg and 1.1 spg
Shooting wise he is a career 48% shooter from 10-16 feet and 40% from 16 feet to the 3 point line (which isn't efficient but it's great range for a defensive big. He shot 46% from that range as a rookie).
The O'quinn/Vucevic experiment didn't quite pan out because they both like shooting from around the top of the key, so offensively it didn't work out. I think he's a perfect match with Monroe because Monroe operates from the low post and O'Quinn operated from the high post. Defensively, it allows Monroe to guard centers because O'quinn can guard either position. And not to mention he is from NY too for what it's worth. 24 years old, can make a living as a decent starter for 6-7 more years at the least.
I don't think he'd be as costly as Robin Lopez or Omer Asik. He is restricted but Orlando has a large stable of bigs. With the Hezonja pick, Aaron Gordon is slotted to play more PF. They also have Vucevic, Dedmon, Frye and Nicholson who all play PF or Center as well. Even Harkless can play the PF slot. And that's not even factoring in if they choose to match Tobias Harris for a max deal. I think we'd have more than enough money to offer him after a Monroe max.
I couldn't agree with some of you guys more. I am one fan that is excited for the future. Let's play some good basketball first. That would be a good start wouldn't it?
He also coached the Albany Patroons to a CBA championship. does that count?
Defensively he gets lost sometimes but because of his length he recovers well, rebounding instincts are not there yet and he gets bodied sometimes when he is in position but his long arms help...
He ha ssome post up moves but he was usually guarded by someone smaller than him because he played on the perimeter a lot, In the NBA he is going to give big guys trouble because they are not going to want to come out on him...
Once his defense get better a 4-5 with Melo would be deadly...can not do that yet because Knicks would get killed defensively...
a guy like Jordan would be the absolutely perfect fit next to him and Melo and it would be nothing like Melo Stat Chandler....
Ny16, do you think he can guard SFs in certain matchups early in his career? Like obviously not against the Lebron's and KDs of the nba, but there are certain SFs that aren't really a threat off the dribble and I don't think he'd be the absolute worst defender in terms of lateral quickness amongst SFs. Like I think you can roll him out at the 3 if his matchup is like PJ Tucker, MKG, mike dunleavy, Caroll, Shump etc.
He can be a real threat against spot up shooters that can't take advantage of big man guarding them off the dribble.

I think Giannis is a better run and jump athlete and it's unlikely Porz ends up as good a rebounder.
Really do think the Dirk comparison works if Porz can put on strength. Dirk could run screens and hit threes off curls and Porz seems to have similar skills. Hope they do.

I dont think it would really be an advantage for the Knicks because he is not going to go into the paint just yet and post up...I think his advantage these first couple of years is going to be play the 4 and pulling bigs out...he is going to spread the floor so much for Melo and if they do sign Jordan the pick and roll, he is going to get a lot of his points off of kick outs early in his career...
Once he gets bigger if he is at the 5 it is going to give team fits because they are going to want to go small and he will be able to post them up and if they go big he can pull them outside...
So him getting bigger will be great for his game...right now he is going to be a shooter and spread the floor...
Guarding 3's from what i saw so far is going to be tough, in the game i am watching now, Mardy Collins yes that Mardy Collins slow as shit guard drove by him, he used his length to block the shot BUT he got blown by...a couple of times that happened to him and used his length to help him recover...
He certainly is a better rebounder than KP. It's kind of strange that KP is a big that plays like a guard in that his greatest skills is shooting, coming off screens, turnaround, etc. and Giannis is more of a post up player that has a good baby hook around the rim.
I was disappointed how they booed him when drafted. I hope the NY fans embrace him.
A: That this guy belongs here. … He loves the organization, he loves the team, so we accept him and we’re gonna cheer for him from now on.

Must be easy for Phil Jackson too because he said out right that he sees a lot of Pau Gasol in him.
I don't see any of Giannis in the extremely limited viewing I've had on Zinger.
Sometimes the white on white comparisons work. No need to kill your brain trying to think of a black player to compare him to.
and he is still absolutely awful..
One thing i notice about these games when porzingis gets hot they do not keep feeding him..game i am watching now 3rd quarter has it 2 3's and a couple of layups and then next couple of possessions they ignore him...just interesting

I can't tell you how many times I've laughed over the last month regarding media sources & draft coverage. SMH! The madness continues.
Well I'd hope to an extent he'd be able to put it on the floor, because otherwise he is just going to be a spot up shooter. He doesn't have creative handles but I think he will be certainly capable one day of scoring on slow footed bigs on line drives on mismatches.
Yeah, I wouldn't call him explosive, but he does elevate off the ground quickly on cuts to the rim, even though it may not be that high, which I think to be a really underrated factor. I'm not sure if anyone else noticed during the Finals, but Tristan Thompson is the complete opposite of this. When he goes up to score, he takes a really long time gathering with the ball in his hands. Idk if its simply the difference of being a 2 foot versus 1 foot jumper, but I seriously think TT is severely limited as an offensive threat because he gets fouled easily because of how long it takes for him to gather for a dunk. its made him passive and defers the ball many times because of it
