RV NYDN: Tom Condon says Giants will show Eli the money

Defenderdawg : 6/27/2015 6:51 pm
“The quarterbacks always get done,” Condon said. “And the Giants are not a skittish team. So it’s not one of those things where they get nervous or they jump around or anything like that. You know you’re going to go in and it’s going to get done. I’m sure at the appropriate time it’ll happen.”

Call me when Big Ben wins his first Super Bowl MVP award.

Call me when Big Ben wins anything without a defense ranked in the top five.

Call me when Big Ben wins anything with the bottom-ranked running game in the league.

Playoffs, W-L, Winning Percentage:

Eli: 8-3, .727.

Ben: 10-5, .666.

Nothing against Big Ben. I liked him in 2004 and I like him now. But I'll still take Eli any day of the week and twice on Sundays. [/quote

ben will be a HOF,thats why he just got the contract

eli jury is still out, maybe he will have to buy a ticket to see his brother

Not a franchise QB LMFAO..

Eli Manning has won 2 SB's with much less of a supporting cast than his brother, Brady, Brees, Ben or Wilson..

You sir are either a troll or a moron..

Could be a Steelers fan, although he didn't mention Big Ben until someone else did.

Might not be a garden-variety troll, though. My guess is he's a fan of some other NFC East team. He's certainly not a Giants fan.

Eli will get the standard 5 year deal at market value. Anything less or anything else is a slap in the face to your 2 time SB MVP and franchise QB.

Well yeah he'll get the "standard deal" for 5 years at market value. But at his age (34, January birthday) the FO would be idiots themselves if that contract wasn't backloaded and easily cuttable after 2 years, and certainly after 3... So in effect it wouldn't be more than a 3 year contract at most. You just don't place large bets on guys playing well at 37-40 years old. Even QBs who have been as resilient as Eli has.

Look at how this FO got burned counting on OL in their early 30s!
That is the standard structure

Big signing bonus
Minimal first year salary then normal 2nd year escalating up to very high salaries at the end of the deal

my guess

5 years
110-115 total
55-65 guaranteed

those 6 words are the main reason why Eli will be extended.

Eli is a very good QB. He completes a team, but he doesn't make a team. but he also isn't the alternative - a QB wannabe/washout.

Which years did the Giants
PaulBlakeTSU : 6/29/2015 10:21 am : link
miss the playoffs because they had Eli and not a "franchise quarterback"?

Which other quarterbacks are making chicken salad out of the chicken shit the Giants have had at offensive line, and defense the last several years?

Who are these franchise quarterbacks that are succeeding in the complex Gilbride offense when there was no pass protection, no run game, a carousel of WRs and tight ends?

Who are these franchise quarterbacks thriving over a several year span of perhaps the worst injury luck in NFL history?

And finally, when things are struggling, who are these other franchise quarterbacks that are keeping the NY media from turning our team into a shitshow circus?
shouldn't we have been bitching about
fkap : 6/29/2015 10:44 am : link
Gilbride's system? Shouldn't a good/great QB do fantastic in a QB friendly system (which Gilbride's was decidedly not)?
oh wait, some did. they were told they were dunces.
Condon's a stud
JonC : 6/29/2015 10:55 am : link
I wouldn't want to be negotiating with him. It's pretty unlikely NYG can slip one past the goalie when the strategy is regarding Eli's contract. I just hope they can structure it to allow some protection (team options) as Eli gets north of 35.

Eli as of now..
AnishPatel : 6/29/2015 11:13 am : link
15th in total passing yards
13th in passing Tds
12th in Game winning drives
10th in comebacks
Consecutive game streak
2 SB MVPs

He has a chance to be in the top 10 after this season, in passing Tds and total passing yards. Hopefully this new season can produce another SB win, and boost his numbers in top 5 in passing TDs and total passing yards.
Trolls aside, still, there's no argument to be made for letting him
Ten Ton Hammer : 6/29/2015 11:33 am : link
walk or not paying him his due.

The Year One results with McAdoo were exactly what the team wanted to see from Eli, even with an OL that was (in pass blocking) only mediocre at best.

[quote] 11 seasons
5 playoff seasons
3 one and done in offseason
2 superbowl

I love me the Eli, but let's hold off on giving him anything he wants.

the 2 rings are fabulous. let's jump through hoops for joy.
the fewer playoff appearances than not (in a fairly easy to make it if you're any good league) makes me say let's evaluate the situation before getting too fixated on those two rings. If you're going to shell out huge dollars for a QB, he needs to at least be a QB who gets gets you into the offseason more often than not. Eli hasn't been taking us there or beyond the first round the majority of his career.

I love the rings. but at some point you have to realize that way too often a 'meaningful' December has been an outside chance of making the playoffs but mathematically still in it. [/quote

that looks like a qb who is not elite. if he was,the money would be easy.

I just don't get it. How many active QBs have multiple rings? I'd take 2 SB wins over losing the SB every year for those 8 playoff appearances. Whether you are 1 and done or 3 and done it still ends in disappointment. Some would argue it stings more losing the SB than 1 and done.

You know he's got a .727 postseason record right? A number beaten only by Wilson among active QBs. I think he's one of the best post-season QBs in the league.

You mentioned something about blaming it on the system being wrong. Well, last year under this more QB friendly system, it was one of his best years (statistically). How did that work out for us?

Yes he's worth the money and his contract should be better than Big Ben's IMHO. However, naturally, I hope it's for less so that extra money can go to other players. I won't be upset if it's not. I think year number 2 under the new system will show that THE SYSTEM DOES MATTER.

Jon, on rereading Condon's statements about Eli's future contract - frankly that's pretty weak sauce for an agent who's a "stud."

Negotiating on the basis the "no other team has let an aging franchise QB walk, except in the case of injury worries like Peyton and Drew Brees..." It's just a weak as hell argument at this point. If the Giants franchise Eli in 2016, he'll be 36 years old before Condon negotiates Eli's last big deal. Frankly, I wouldn't want to be in Condon's shoes in that case, because a LOT of GMs would not be putting up 50,000,000 in guaranteed money for ANY 36 year old football player.

Again for any who say - "you pay him his due" - no you don't. You pay on the basis of anticipated future performance, and Eli better have a crackin' 2015 to get the kinda dough that puts him back among the top 5 most highly paid QBs.

Hmmm, interesting thought.

You have any incite into it? Just suggesting to Reese to let's get the ball rolling?

Last we heard, from Eli IIRC, the Giants hadn't even approached Eli or Condon. Seems they still haven't from what Condon told RV.

Frankly I wouldn't want to play hardball with Condon or JR. JR definitely draws line in the sand...

You have an strange deffinition of a Franchise QB and you either don't watch other QB's or have an ax to grind with Manning.

You can argue all day that he may not be "elite," whatever that means, or you can say he isn't one of the top QB's. However, to say he isn't a franchise QB is just silly. He consistantly is in the top third of the league in all categories. Yes he has had some bad years with turnovers, but in regards to the rest of this stats he is always near the top.

Now, franchise doesn't mean they don't make any mistakes, all QB's do. Franchise doesn't mean you wouldn't like some better play from your QB at times. Franchise does not mean they are perfect. Franchise means you are set at the QB position. You can/have won with with that player. You fit pieces around a franchise player, not the opposite.
Nothing I've heard
JonC : 6/29/2015 7:33 pm : link
Condon knows there's likely no reason to play a game via the media when it comes to NYG+Eli. Both sides can point to Big Ben's deal and work from there on structure, guarantees, etc. In other words, there's unlikely to be any big drama, media manipulation, etc. Condon sounds very matter of fact. Mirror the body language of those you wish to charm, etc.
Keep eli

Remember Dave brown Kent graham Danny kanell mike cherry Tim hasslebeck and many other horrible others have tried to lead and be the face if this franchise.nobody doing it better than Eli and no one currently out there can do it better.every quarterback has warts but not everybody has a SB winning QB with warts.if we don't make playoffs this year take JPP and Princes would be money and buy and draft Eli some new lineman
All the people bitching about Eli

Call me in 2025 or so when we got the 2020's version of Dave Brown under center.

But I guess a lot of people won't appreciate Eli until he's gone.
