I've seen offensive linemen during the pregame toss a football 50+ yards. They're athletes, they can do a lot of things athletically well.
I wouldn't equate this to chucking a ball 50 yards. He had good location on that pitch. Not saying he's an MLB pitcher, but he's a freak of nature, athletically.

They weren't "chucking" the ball nor is throwing a strike too difficult UConn.
But you also have to take into account, that was a softball, not a baseball. It's harder to throw.
If he threw a softball 90 mph, that's unreal.
The article says Beckham can throw TD passes. Maybe a few gadget plays could be in the works if Coughlin will permit them.
He is an outstanding athlete.
Most good athletes are competent or very good at a number of sports.
Anyone who considers such an athlete a freak is probably piss-poor at any sport he tries.

They tried that last season in the Titans game.
The notion that Coughlin never does trick plays is a pretty persistent myth. By and large, he's rarely had the versatility needed to make a trick play work effectively.
90 mph is impressive no matter what kind of ball he was throwing. To throw it with control, too, is not anything to disparage. If you could throw better than this, did you at least play in AAA?

Agreed. 90mph, regardless of ball, is impressive unless you are a professional pitcher.
If he doesn't know how to skate he'd probably pick it up in one day and dominate, he's that great of an athlete. Now if only he can keep the hammy healthy.

he's actually throwing that strike at 90 MPH and then if it is a softball, then that's a fucking amazing feat. And if you think that any good athlete can do it actually speaks to your ignorance of sports.
but it bothers me a bit that he is doing this. What's the point of throwing a softball that hard? Seriously, if he were to injure his shoulder, rotator cuff, or develop any other arm issues I'd be pissed.
Am I the only one thinking about this when we read this article?
I want him to be happy and enjoy his offseason, but I know what kind of torque is put on the arm and shoulder throwing at that speed, although admittedly it isn't the same as the traditional hardball pitcher's motion.

He appears amazed by a lot of simple things.

+1
If the defenses start to double cover him on every play, more backfield motion and some option pass plays may help break the coverage.
As others have said, they are just great athletes.

Was thinking the same thing.

Dan, methinks you need a trip to the ice tub ;)
I just don't want him getting hurt, and pitching a softball at >=90MPH is not the same as other activities - it has to be considered somewhat risky.
Pfft. Pitch counts. Pussification of America continues!
Guess you had a scope on it, huh?
