definitely worth a phone call though from Phil.
Coming home, eh?

Get it done! . . . .
1 year deal
UConn4523 : 6/28/2015 3:58 pm : link
question is with whom. Probably 95% chance it's Cleveland. It would take a huge move by the Lakers or Knicks to get him to leave.
This was always a forgone conclusion
djm : 6/28/2015 3:59 pm : link
He will stay in Cleveland unless Lebron just wanted to torment that city once again.

Lebron will probably opt out next season too. Cap is going up.
Wasn't this expected?
giantsfan44ab : 6/28/2015 4:04 pm : link
Nothing unusual, doesn't he get more money this way?

Yes and yes.
Just a formality.
FStubbs : 6/28/2015 4:07 pm : link
Who would want to sign him other than Cleveland? If you somehow were able to get him away, you know that you're getting a guy with no loyalty whatsoever and will look to bolt the following year.

He won't leave Cleveland again

If he did he would be the most hated athlete ever in Cleveland.

I think anyone would want to sign them even if he held a press conference prior to signing and said that he was going to bolt after one year regardless of where he signed. As a Knicks fan I am so tired of losing and I would happily take on season of Lebron as a Knick.
they didnt show enough committment to him
hitdog42 : 6/28/2015 4:16 pm : link
they only traded 2 #1 overall picks away---- traded 2 more #1 picks for Moz... and are likely to go into the crazy luxury tax zone for him... they need to make more moves to show they care..... #vomit

I think it would be more than just Cleveland. How about any other city besides the one he ends up in?

What do ya think, Lebron or Greg Monroe?
This was always the plan
glowrider : 6/28/2015 4:24 pm : link
With salary cap bump. It's why they didn't sign him long term up front as I recall.
what media outlet will he announce his decision on this time?
chris r : 6/28/2015 4:26 pm : link
last time national TV, then one of the most storied sports magazines - what this time? I'd like to see him maybe make a broadway production out of this decision.

Ive talked to a buddy at length about Lebron
dep026 : 6/28/2015 4:56 pm : link
and as time goes on, I am more and more convinced that he isnt leaving Cleveland, and in fact I believe that if he wins a title with them - he retires right after it. I think that was his announcement this year that he never got to make.

I do believe he badly wants to win in Cleveland, but I think the wear and tear is finally getting to him. He has already started movies. I believe he interests post playing. So my prediction that as soon as he wins a title with cleveland, he will hang them up.

Right after 1 title? He traded away the future in Wiggins, I think he at least owes them a career until he is 35-36 to ensure that that they are in good hands even after he starts to decline.
let's act like adults
PaulBlakeTSU : 6/28/2015 5:42 pm : link
This was the plan all along. He was going to opt out after a year so that he could take a max deal when the new TV revenues kicked in. He's not leaving. Let's stop making this out to be anything more than it is.
I wouldn't want him anyway

we're trying to build a team and a culture, identity. That won't happen with a team full of hired guns.

He doesnt owe Cleveland or their ownership anything. If he wants to retire, then eh retires. If he wins them a ring, the city of cleveland will be happy.
Kind of makes you wonder

If the JR and Shump trade had anything to do with James and Melo possibly playing together in the near future. Maybe some type of verbal agreement between Jackson, Dolan and the majority stake Chinese owners of The Cavaliers.

Either Carmelo going to Cleveland, or Lebron coming to NY. My bet would on Lebron coming to NY, specifically because he is the NBA cash crop (especially for the Chinese Market-CCTV5). And Adam Silver working out of 645 5th Ave.

It's safe to say that the league will pretty much put any Lebron team in the finals through the referee placement.
This was assumed and expected when he signed the deal he did
Matt M. : 6/29/2015 9:38 am : link
in Cleveland. But, it does open the door for someone else to blow him away. With the increased cap after next season, whoever signs him, most likely to a 1 year deal, would have the inside track to re-sign him under the bigger cap. It is not completely crazy for one of a handful of teams to at least try.
He's not leaving.
Ten Ton Hammer : 6/29/2015 9:41 am : link
He has near-total organizational control in cleveland. That slimeball dan gilbert basically gave him and his management team the keys to the franchise.

I agree it's very, very likely he ends up back in Cleveland
Mike in Long Beach : 6/29/2015 2:27 pm : link
But I do think it's somewhat noteworthy that he's waiting to see what other pieces Cleveland signs before he signs anything. If he was really 100% on staying then he'd ink something, which would then draw free agent talent to the team.

It's pretty simple to me.. if he was 100% staying, he'd of opted out and immediately engaged in talks. That doesn't seem to be happening.
