Whats the significance of the 1950 logo?

Shockwave : 6/28/2015 5:18 pm
Out of all the Giants logos or related items my favorite by far is the 1950 logo. What was the reasoning behind the logo? Was it the considered the 25th anniversary logo or something along those lines? Did they use it for years afterwards or even before?

I would love to see this on a helmet against the blue background i think it would look great!

It's a nice logo and

is a pretty close representation of NYC from the Meadowlands area.

I have no idea of it's history or shelf life.

It's a lot better than this one:

with that logo on it. Wear it for every game day.
Not sure the significance of the logo

but my favorite uniforms are the 1962 home and 1971 road. I like plain, clean uniforms.

I beleive the original QB against the skyline logo

was inspired by the King Kong movie posters.

If you take a look at my 1956 Giants article, early on I mention the logo evolution and created a graphic by scanning old media guide covers. The first one originated around that time - 1933-1934.

The second one that you showed above first showed in in 1948 which coincided with the Giants 25th anniversary. It was on the cover of all the game programs that year.

You'll see the different logos used concurrently over the years. the original one was used on all the Giants tickets and letterhead while the newer, more streamlined one was on game programs. That one was also used alongside the QB inside Yankee Stadium for several years as well.

Anything but 1975 is good. IMHO.

This is something I put together while working on the article

I shrank it down so it would fit here.

One correction, although the logo first showed up in 1948

the Giants 25th anniversary was 1949.

The original logo was still being used as late as 1951

The New York Giants have experimented with several logos throughout their iconic history. Their earliest logo was introduced in 1945, depicting a “giant” football player poised to throw a pass. It was designed by Marie Steinmuller, who also created the current NY Giants logo which comprises of a stylized blue and red lowercase “ny”.

The New York Giants of the National Football League have had numerous uniforms and logos since their founding in 1925.LogosGiants logos have revolved around three distinct concepts: a "giant" football player poised to throw a pass, the word "Giants" and variations on the initials for New York. The "ny", "NY", and GIANTS logos have been featured on the team's uniforms over the past 46 years, though currently the original or current GIANTS script logo does not appear on the team's uniforms, although it appeared on their helmets throughout the 1980s and 1990s.Lowercase "ny" and GIANTS script Prior to the 1961 campaign, the Giants official logo was the "giant quarterback" logo created by Marie Barclay Steinmuller
That logo is also on the 1956 championship ring

Curiously, there is one omission in the group of uniforms (jerseys).

I remember attending a Giants/Bears game in 1934 where the Giants

wore red jerseys with white striping from the top of shoulders down to the lower arms

that i posted originally is the one i want to get. I'm thinking in the middle of the back maybe a 10" round version of it would be great :)

A smaller version on the arm i don't think would look good at all.
