NFT: Ballers HBO

Anyone else watch this? I've been watching it after True Detective each week. I think it's similar enough to Entourage in that it's a show to just enjoy without thinking too heavily but different enough to keep things interesting. Its not groundbreaking by any means, but its enjoyable enough to watch each week.

I didn't watch last nights episode, but I plan to. I liked the first episode.
2nd one

was a let down
The show has been just eh

Nothing special. Again, very much like Entourage, so the whole story is kind of played out. I'll keep watching it because its on in between True Detective and The Brink (which I really like), but not overly impressed with it.

Yeah I think that sums it up in a nutshell. How is the Brink?
I thought it had some slight potential

after episode 1, I give it one more before I bail.

Episode 2 was terrible.
Its ok

Personally, I think Brink is hilarious. Robbins and Black have me cracking up for most of the episode.
I thought it was ok

enough to warrant a few more episodes of my attention. It's short and it has The Rock in it, I'll give it a chance. The first episode wasn't bad.
Ballers is ok.

As mentioned it's mindless entertainment, and it's only 30 mins long so it requires very little commitment.

It's definitely different because i don't think the NFL branding has ever been used quite like this in entertainment before (without the NFL signing off on it). The fact that actual NFL teams, and not generically named teams, are a function of the plot adds some interest.
Rashard Mendenhall is a writer on the show

and a member of the WGA. Found that out after last night's episode. Smart move and I hope it helps bring some authenticity. Plus I'm waiting to see what episode Victor Cruz is in.
It's Entourage part deux
JonC : 6/29/2015 12:21 pm : link
but in the pro athlete realm. Other than the Rock, it's shite so far.
How does it compare to Playmakers?
RB^2 : 6/29/2015 12:59 pm : link
Anyone remember that show?
Playmakers
pjcas18 : 6/29/2015 1:03 pm : link
was more football so far than Ballers. I liked Playmakers.

Ballers is more the agent/money side of things (so far). very little on-field or even really off-field football.

the first two episodes have focused on the contracts, extensions, off-field issues, etc.

Was not aware of that. i know he quit the NFL early to write, but I didn't realize it was for screenwriting.
Saw the first one

I really wanted it to be good but thus far...it's not. The 2nd episode was worse than the first.
Much worse than Entourage. Misogyny rules again.
jjgmrg901 : 6/29/2015 1:28 pm : link
Seriously the writers of this show much be men who either have never had a serious relationship with a woman or are just stupid.

Again a show that says that women are only either good for sex in bathrooms or looking after their meal ticket

Thats actually a really good point, never thought of it like that.
