eagles player fire back at weatherford

mirwin : 6/29/2015 1:02 pm
this is really stupid. Weatherford's comments were a petty joke. But since i love this rivalry it's not necessarily a bad thing.

Both Weatherford and Kelce

make good points.
Weatherford was pretty complimentary
giants#1 : 6/29/2015 1:17 pm : link
if Bradford is a Ferrari, what is Luck, Rodgers, Peyton, etc?

And Sanchez is more like a VW Beetle than a Cadillac. Only a matter of time before it breaks down...
Weatherford's comments weren't even a petty joke.
Mr. Bungle : 6/29/2015 1:19 pm : link
I heard him make the remarks live on the radio. Completely innocuous, basic analysis that countless people have publicly made before. His only other alternative would have been to say, "Tim Tebow is an outstanding quarterback, Mark Sanchez is an outstanding quarterback, and Sam Bradford is an outstanding quarterback." Because, apparently, anything other than that is going to get the Florio and ESPN hacks all over it, with the predictable response from some meathead on the "offended" team.

And as for "interviewing punters," Weatherford does a lot of guest work in broadcasting. He clearly is interested in doing in at least part-time after his career is over, and he's obviously pretty good at it if he keeps getting spots as an active player.

trying to break into the media business, looking for face time and attention. Guess it goes with the territory in NYC. No harm done and something in a dead period to talk about.
this is all so stupid

talking does nothing. It doesn't "motivate" the other team.

The games turn out however they turn out....regardless of all this crap.

Not saying you aren't correct, but one example I can think of is the Jets-Giants regular season game back in 2011. That game definitely upped the intensity...still may have turned out the way it did, but you can't tell me Rex running his mouth didn't add a little something there. With that said that was going on days before the game, not months
At this point....

the Eagles own us until proven otherwise. If we lose twice to them again it ain't because of anything a stupid punter said.

Of course it motivates. Every little thing can be used by coaches to help motivate. Just look to the Dallas 2007 playoff game. Jerry Jones got the next round playoff tickets. In Americas game, TC said something like he let his players know. And afterwards, when we won, said something like don't tell the media or keep it in house, but Jerry gave us the tickets.

So, everything from actions to trash talking can motivate a team that much more. As a coach, you are looking for the edge to get them that much MORE motivated and up for the game.

That being said, I like that. However, if you are going to talk shit, you better back it up. Plus if I am not mistaken the Eagles had a cartoon ripping us before the game they actually beat us.

I maintain that "that game turns out that way whether Jerry Jones did that, or didn't do it"...If the Cowboys won it wouldn't have been a story.
To add on to what Clams said
Semipro Lineman : 6/29/2015 2:36 pm : link
First, Giving out next round playoff tickets before the game is a hell lot different than calling an oft-injured QB a high-end sports car with reliability issues.

Second, the Eagles cartoon before the Miracle in the Meadowlands 2 was a parody of the NFL play 60 "get on the bus" theme for kids. The entire thing was various eagles, the mascot, and their coach bopping their head to the "get on the bus" chorus as they trekked to the Meadowlands. Hardly bulletin board material.

The Giants Can't Beat the Eagles
Arkbach : 6/29/2015 4:07 pm : link
so Weatherford should just shut-up! The Giants should all display humble respect for an opponent they haven't really beaten since 2011. I'm voiding the second 2012 game for obvious reasons.

That's why you use it to motivate your guys. No one says, hey we motivated them using this method, and we lost. You find an edge that will fire people up and do it. Parcells used to use head games with players. Herb Brooks used those things to motivate his hockey players. Coaches are always looking for that edge. TC used a video of a HS track girl falling down due to fatigue before the finish line, and how the girl crawled her way past it.

So, motivating a team is always something a coach will use and find any edge to use it. What is bad is when your team sucks and they still talk smack. But in general bulletin board stuff helps because it's another thing to throw into the fire during the week and before your speech on gameday.

Weatherford should know better

Save that garbage for TV after he retires. He'll have plenty of offers. No reason to take shots at philly considering they own us

They weren't shots.
I put my money on Weatherford
SHO'NUFF : 6/29/2015 7:33 pm : link
he's ripped and would tire Kelce out.
Weatherford is a current player on NYG
DavidinBMNY : 6/29/2015 9:03 pm : link
He has a huge future in broadcasting, but he is still on the active roster. He needs to keep that in mind, he sounds more like an ex player in broadcasting.

Nothing he said anyone really is going to get set about! but he needs to remember what job is paying the bills and not worry about his next job.
I like Steve.

I'd like him more if he talked less.

don't be Matt Dodge and you can say anything you want.
The Eagles own the Giants.
Curtis in VA : 6/30/2015 9:47 am : link
They've won 11 of the last 14 meetings and swept the Giants last year.

Weatherfords comments were nothing to get upset over, but if I was an Eagle player I would see no reason to get offended even if his words were intended to be so. The Giants have a habit the past few years of talking tough and then getting their butts kicked on the field so, whatever.

Kelce should not be so insecure.
