Yanks continue their Jekyll and Hyde ways. They all se 2 of 3 against the awful Phillies (Phillis put up 10 + runs in 2 of the 3). Then they go into Houston and split a series against the a very good Astros team. The lack off consistency drives me nuts.
Good news is that Ellsbury is starting rehab games this week. We need him. My question is does he go back to the lead off sport or has Gardners outstanding hitting lock him in at 1 and Ellsbury in at 2?
Ellsbury is also the better base-runner which helps his leadoff case a little as well, I think Jacoby/Gardner is the way to go at the top of the order.
Also mentioned that, of the young arms, the Yankees would most like to keep Bryan Mitchell up- the problem here is the attendant restrictions- as he's never been a full time reliever they'd be reluctant to go back to back games with him. This restriction, of course, mitigates somewhat having the extra arm, or at least more than it would to have a traditional reliever stick with the big club.

That and they have a paucity of legit starting options at the AAA level. Unless you're going to bring Kyle Davies up or you're ready to bite the bullet with Severino, Mitchell is the only starter down there you'd be comfortable sticking in a game with the expectation that you might actually have a chance.
Shreve has wonderful numbers in his short career, even though LHHs are hitting better against him than RHHs. He's a guy you can let pitch a full inning and not turn into a LOOGY.
It's a good thing Joe let the AL Player of the Week (and McCann) languish on the bench while Pirela took the last AB on Thursday.
For seem reason, splitting with the Astros really pissed me off.
Had to deal with a family situation.
Yep if CC pitches another awful game tonight they face a hard decision for the 2nd half.
On the plus side, the HRs are back this year, which is great. And they're getting them from up and down the lineup. They will end up with at least 8 guys in double figures in HRs this year with an outside shot at 9 or 10 guys (Gregorius? Jones?)
Will they find a mysterious ailment for his troubles though, placing him on the DL and/or possibly creating an insurance claim for his salary? I suspect an outcome like this should his struggles continue.

True but the tough decision is do you go with a 6 man rotation to lessen the number of Starr's he has to make.
Domingo Acevedo was between 94-99 MPH tonight on the gun for the @SIYanks, topped out at an even 100 MPH.
The Angels drafted Trout with the comp pick they got for the Yankees signing Teixeira

he's like the Yanks Steph Curry. Didn't we miss him by like one or two picks?

And if they didn't have that pick they would have taken them with their first rounder which was before ours. We weren't going to get him.
Headley stinks. Everyone kills Didi and Drew but this guy continues to get a pass, he can't hit and can't field horrible signing, and why is McCann off again he was rested twice last week,
As for C.C. It's sad because he really was good for a long while here with the Yankees but as long as Joe doesn't mind losing every time he pitches now then so be it. Of course the Yanks did run into some great glove work last night which probably kept them from winning. Having said that, every time Sabathia pitches he has no margin for error. Warren has been much more consistent and you know what to expect. Yet he goes to the bullpen.
Then there is Tanaka. Who knows what's up with him. As for Nova will he continue to pitch the way he pitched in his first outing back. Look at the Rays. They bring their young arms up. They don't hesistate. I hope the Yankees take page out of the Rays playbook and throw caution to the wind and get this kid up here as fast as they can.

Can they bring up Rob Refsnder to. He can't be any worse then Pirela

Bring Severino up already. What the fuck are they waiting for. Consensus among scouts is he is ready, he's the real deal, and the Yankees need to trust their young players a little more. Some of the Yankees position players say they would love to have him up to see what he can do. He can't do any worse then C.C.

13 errors in 63 games. He could be worse defensively for sure.

He has had two errors since 5/23, that's a pretty respectable rate. He isn't going to be a top defender but he will likely play acceptable 2B. Pirela isn't a great defender either.
Agreed. CC wasn't really the issue last night, he gave us length and we should be able to score four runs. But sooner or later they're going to have to bite the bullet. He isn't effective and he's not a guy who should be in the starting rotation for a playoff contender. Eat a ton of money and ship him off to a second tier team and let him tutor some kids.
Luis Severino has thrown 296 minor league innings to date. Odds are the Rays wouldn't bring him up for two more years.

The Rays starters have had as many issues with arm injuries as any other team. Until MLB figures out what the hell is going on with these kids that has their shoulders and elbows turning into glass, I say you just cross your fingers and monitor closely. If Severino has the stuff to help us win now we bring him up and give him a shot.
He would, but if the alternative is the bullpen or an outright off the roster I'm not sure he'd say no. He might be untradeable, he might not. I'm sure a team with a young staff might have some interest, he's a leader and he can eat innings.
