any one watching, and thoughts?
I personally am having a hard time with True Detective so far, but the end of last night's episode was unexpected.
I like Brink. Jack Black, and Tim Robbins are pretty funny as is Tim Robbins #2 who seems to do everything for the "Secretary." I wonder when she's going to wipe his ass???
It's hard to accept Vaughn in the role he is in. McConnaughey at least had some serious roles before this and certainly outplayed his perception. Vaughn hasn't really done that for me yet.
I know it's not really fair to compare but this summer season of the Sunday block isn't even close to the GoT/Silicon Valley/Veep block lineup.
That said, its not going to top season one.
Kind of funny to read everyone's take on this. I actually like Vince Vaughn's character for some reason.
Haven't caught the second episode of Brink, but I will. Definitely has potential.
Not feeling it yet. Tim Robbins is playing a great character.
still a lot of time though
Kind of like Hackers meets Donnie Darko.
Great acting and story lines.
True Detective usually takes a while to get going since it's just a mini series.
I expect it will improve with every episode just like last season did.
Still think, as I have since the cast was announced, that Kitsch will be the weak link. I think being in the military or a veteran is a prerequisite for all of his roles. He plays slight variations of the same guy over and over.
Just hope Farrell isn't dead. He was easily the best on the show. I had a funny feeling after his "I only get a vacation when I croak" line and when he pulled up to Caspers house to hear Bobby Blande's "I Pity the Fool" on the radio I told my wife he was gonna die. The music isn't elected arbitrarily on this show...oh well, I guess we can call that the Game of Thrones Effect. Really hope he isn't though. I'd even settle for a poorly written deux ex machina to get him back. McAdams and Kitsch can't carry this show. Without Farrell the wheels are coming off.
One last thing...did anyone notice the crow mask on the wall in Casper's psychiatrists office? Very similar to if not identical to the one being worn by Casper's chauffeur/Velcoro's shooter...
The Vaughn monologue was a bit odd but overall not too bad so far.
if it was a head shot you'd know for sure, but no idea if he had a vest or not.
I just know he worse one in other scenes.
Yeah was totally confused. And Vaughn is 6'5" and easily identifiable, don't know if he thought he was disguised or...

What would be the result of an investigative journalist being savagely beaten by a hooded figure? He just stops writing the story and that's the end of it?

Huh? Farrell's character beat him up.
Yeah, that too.
Maybe I won't even bother with episode 3. I doubt this season will turn around and get good.
I actually felt the opposite, I thought season one was a bit of a slow starter that gathered steam as it went along.
Haven't seen this season yet but I find it amusing that anyone would critize season 2 as compared to season one for using the standard cop show stereotypes. Season one was pretty formulaic too (although it executed the formula very, very well): the oddball cop who no one else likes or trusts, the conventional cop who doesn't know what to make of his weird new partner, cops who won't let go of a case despite enormous pressure from the higher-ups, the unraveling of a massive conspiracy that goes to the highest levels of power. Hell, they actually had the most cliche cop scene there is - the angry asshole captain demanding Cohle's badge and gun because he's suspended!
Season 1 is casting a very long shadow. I'm eager to see episode 2.
Bit of a spoiler to learn that Farrell gets shot up but good, but don't forget that Russ Cohle also got eviscerated at the end of Season 1 and survived.
Shot gun wound? Farrell will just rub some dirt in it and get back in the game.
Vaughan hasn't looked this good, clean and spiffy since he was in Swingers.
For a minute I thought it was Benedict Cumberbatch in heavy makeup.
Rick Springfield! Cool choice! I knew he looked familiar.
Intimidating/roughing up journalists doesn't seem unrealistic.
A break-in and assault in some rundown neighborhood( judging by the homeless just laying around). Check the scene and maybe some canvassing, then what?
And he's beaten a guy with brass knuckles in front of a witness in public. He's not exactly locked down.

using sap gloves and probably put him in the hospital. what would happen in real life if that happened? do you really think the story would just go away? Really?
And he's beaten a guy with brass knuckles in front of a witness in public. He's not exactly locked down.
I was wondering about that myself -- apparently only his ex-wife knows that he beat that guy senseless? I guess the cops didn't ask the guy (or his son) who was beaten for a description of the guy who tooled on him? OK.
If he's out of the kid's life and not stopping by the school any more, they'll have to do some leg work. And then someone will stop by and beat the guy again to get him to drop the case.
Even if they don't catch the attacker - that would just bring nuclear heat on the target of the story.
