NFT: NBCUniversal ending its business relationship with Trump.

Ten Ton Hammer : 6/29/2015 3:25 pm
http://money.cnn.com/2015/06/29/media/donald-trump-nbc-ends-relationship/

NBCUniversal, under pressure from an array of Hispanic groups, is severing its business ties to presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The Miss USA pageant, scheduled for July 12, will no longer air on the network. Nor will the Miss Universe pageant, scheduled for next January. Both pageants were, until now, jointly owned by NBC and Trump.

"At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values," the company said in a statement on Monday. "Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump."

Speaking to reporters after a campaign event in Chicago, Trump said he had enjoyed a "great" relationship with NBC but would not back down on his views about immigration. Trump told CNN correspondent Athena Jones that he may sue NBC.

Can't believe anyone would care about those absurd pageants or Trump seeking his latest ex-wife during them.

They'd give him a show in a second. Can't see how'd he'd take the pay cut.
Trump doesn't

Work on television for the salary. He does it for the publicity. NBC universal terminated their relationship with Trump but you claim they would give him a show in a second? You're reaching here.

Yeah he'd probably have to go to Fox.
Interestingly enough NBC
LauderdaleMatty : 6/29/2015 6:24 pm : link
is doing him a favor. Lots of publicity. Which that modern day PT BaRNUM LOVES.

The may not have the legal right to sever their relationship. So regardless of one's feelings on Trump and what a scumbag he generally is he may have the right to say what he wants and NBC breaking a valid contract without cause may be an issue.

Trump may very well be within his rights to sue. He may also have a good case to get big $$$ as a late cancellation of TV rights most likely would result in a large financial loss.

I think people here are being a bit twisty

With he's not running for president here and it's cable not network there....

NBC made a statement of moral outrage. I'm glad they did if only b cause I despise Trump and think he damages the Republican Party.

But it's stilly and hypocritical to only have moral outrage on network and for presidential candidates. Their situational ethics show an absence of any character. Either they believe something is right or wrong or they don't. It doesn't get more complicated than that.

from a young huckster into an old huckster.

It's really sad that he gets so much exposure and publicity.

A significant number of very smart, thoughtful, articulate young people--and some not so young-- have come to the forefront out of the racial issues of the past year or so. My hope is that a few of them continue to grow and push Sharpton out of the limelight.

I think the problem with a few of the mature black leaders is that they already have pretty well defined roles, and they aren't interested in filling Sharpton's exceedingly smelly shoes.

Tell me something, a vastly successful business man and NONpolitician is worse than a socialist or a candidate who was an unmitigated failure as Sec of State with no platform?

Seriously dude. Stop votng against a party and for the better candidate we've dealt with 8 years of "hope" and its made this country exponentially worse and less l8ke my home.

Give me a fucking break SanF4an

"When Mexico sends its people," Trump said during his presidential announcement, "they're not sending the best. They're not sending you, they're sending people that have lots of problems and they're bringing those problems. They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime. They're rapists...'

Do they care to defend that? I find those comments to be absolutely racist xenophobic, but perhaps you don't.

And this idea that Trump is some great businessman is laughable. I think 4 or 5 of the businesses have declared bankruptcy.

Since you brought her up (Shocking on this website), I hope HRC faced him next year. Election night will be a short one. I can go to bed early.

There are quite a few of them that are. The situation in Mexico is a country absolutely riddled with crime and run by the cartels. I work in the restaurant industry at many differnet spots and I have personally heard of some of the crimes these guys have committed over there and they left to eacape prosecution. Yes there are exceptions. But the fact that Mexico as a country is not taken to task on how they govern that place is beyond me. The answer is NOT opening our doors to them which is apparently what the left os promoting. I mean, hell, itll get them votes.

Where he went wrong was generalizing Mexico with all Mexicans. I think he meant the government and I think hws absolutely right about that.

chop, were you saying that the exceptions were the people leaving mexico to avoid prosecution for some crime?

While I'm sure that was the case for some (fleeing their country to avoid prosecution), I think that the numbers would have to support that the criminals are in the minority of immigrants.

I voted the straight Democratic ticket from Obama on down. I've always felt a bit uncomfortable with certain elements of the GOP, but now those elements have taken over.

I'm a small government conservative on many issues, but support things like pro choice and gay marriage. I essentially tend to support freedom of choice in almost all areas. Which finds me at odds with the Republicans on many things.

I tend to vote republican more often than democrat, but often would rather vote third party. I usually don't because I see it as throwing away my vote but I may start voting third party more starting this cycle.

I am philosophically conservative and to the right of Genghis Khan, but there are certainly candidates in the Republican field for whom I could not bring myself to vote. If Donald Trump was the nominee - and he won't be - I would strongly consider leaving the country, and no I'm not kidding.

As I said I despise Trump. But if you want to be honest, if not fair, he did not equate Mexican immigrants with rapists. It was a specific comment about a small sect of people, illegal aliens, which, if I were to guess (which I shouldn't) he is trying to tie in to reports of rapes, kidnappings and violence along the southern border that were reported to by perpetrated by illegals. I think it hearkens back to Castro opening the floodgates a decade or so back where the Cubans who came here through his maneuvering...not all Cuban immigrants... were criminals and mental patients. Trumps comments are racist if you assume he was generalizing about all Mexican immigrants but the totality of his statement makes clear that he was not. It's still a dumb statement but I am not sure why people have high expectations or any expectations at all from him.

The Mexican government is complicit in the flux of illegals into the US. Especially the immigrants coming from Guatemala and El Salvador. They don't want them to stay in Mexico, so they help them get here. It was all over the news last year. And Mexico also benefits greatly from the billions that Mexican immigrants wire back home.

I don't feel Trumps attempt at pushing a brand while pretending to run harms the other candidates. only if they actually allow him debate time would that maybe result in some damage. I don't see that happening though since this is nothing more then a sham for the purpose of gaining buzz for himself

Where I think the damage comes in is with regards to the Conservative voting block, not the candidates. But that will all go away 45 days after he does his swan song exit just prior to actually having to be serious and not a parody. If anything he is going to make some of the candidates on the Right look better.
