Las Vegas lost 14-7, Tyler Pill is terrible. But what is shocking is that Wally Backman had Jack Leathersich throw 57 pitches over 2 innings. Oh, Mejia pitched a scoreless inning though.
Reynolds, Conforto, Nimmo, Cecchini, Dom Smith, Rosario, Buecerra, Fulmer, Meisner, Molina, and you can probably still include Herrera and Plawecki as "prospects" even though i'm not sure they qualify. Still a lot of good trade chips. I'd trade anyone of those guys with the exception of Conforto.
against the next team after what they faced this weekend. They could of faced Max Scherzer I understand that , but they faced the Twins and put up an 11 spot
is looking more and more like a guy that was overhyped. He's been awful lately (his second such extended slump) and his numbers on the season are unimpressive (.729 OPS despite LV and PCL).
Jeff Diehl, Matt Blackham, Nabil Crismatt, Darwin Ramos, Kenneth Bautista, Merandy Gonzalez, Wagner Lagrange, Gabriel Jiminez, Anuery Olivo, Nicolas Debora, Carlos Hernandez, Boris Sanchez Jose Geraldo & Ronalde Guedez
Jeff Diehl, Matt Blackham, Nabil Crismatt, Darwin Ramos, Kenneth Bautista, Merandy Gonzalez, Wagner Lagrange, Gabriel Jiminez, Anuery Olivo, Nicolas Debora, Carlos Hernandez, Boris Sanchez Jose Geraldo & Ronalde Guedez
And go!
Diehl is repeating BK so they obviously don't think much of him at almost 22 years old, Blackham is tiny but good arm, admittedly don't know a ton about Crismatt or Ramos, Bautista is only 17 so nice start but signed for below slot this year so well see what happens, Debora is 22 years old in the DSL (injuries and PED's), Guedez was a guy Badler liked previously. The others I don't know much about.
liked Debora pre-injury but 2 years later at 22 years old if he's not playing in the US it's not a great sign. Bernal has been good as well but he's older.
Kenny Hernandez signed for 1 million and has been laughably awful. 8 for 76. 17 in August so he has time (obviously) but that's an unusually horrendous start especially for a big IFA.
is generally viewed as a bullpen guy but if he keeps this up his value will be higher.
BTW, tons of teams need starting pitching as the standings are shaping up. Cubs need a pitcher who can go more than 5 innings (now that they themselves are in a team wide slump), dodgers can upgrade frias, orioles, rangers, blue jays, tigers, etc. If alderson does this right he can get prospects and/or mlb help with niese AND gee. There are other pitchers that are available who are better (cueto, hamels) than what the mets have but for bargain hunting you can do a lot worse than niese and/or gee.
Would LA do a Niese for Ethier swap and eat a chunk of his deal?
Ethier is owed far too much for this to make sense for the Dodgers. Niese is 01wed 13.5, Ethier is owed 47 so the Dodgers would have to determine that Jon Niese is worth 25-30 million (by eating even 10-12 of his deal).
don't see the Dodgers valuing Niese like that. I think the view is the Mets have an extra arm, not "Lets spend 30 million on Jon Niese", Dodgers or not. Just not worth it to them.
If Rollins hadn't been so terrible this year I'd say that was a better swap but he's starting to look forked.
I just don't know what a realistic return for Niese is right now. Especially f the Brewers turned down Niese for A-Ram.
And if the Cubs have interest in Niese I have no idea what we're looking at there because there's no way Niese is fetching any of those MI players. Even Baez.
Don't you think the Mets would only be looking for something they think can help right now as opposed to gambling on potential, though?
I feel like Alderson has one bullet in his chamber this year and needs to use it wisely. Not saying it's necessarily Niese or any potential trade chip in particular but based on everything we've heard, it sounds like we're going to be "buyers" on one deal and outside of something else much smaller scale, that's about it.
So.. he'd better get it right. Whatever it winds up being.
I'd literally take almost anything other than watching Tejada for the rest of the year. Rollins' BABIP, OBP, and BA are all exactly 40 points below his numbers last year, meanwhile his power is apparently still there (7 hrs, 18 xbh). Put him back in the NL East, hope for a little improvement with his BABIP and maybe you catch lightning in a bottle for a couple months. There literally aren't any other SS options out there. Maybe Jed Lowrie since he's been displaced in HOU? But he has 2 years left on his deal. Not sure the Mets would want to take that on.
Jon Morosi @jonmorosi 9s9 seconds ago
Jon Niese is not an especially appealing option for AL teams: He has allowed .881 OPS over 382 interleague plate appearances.

That makes sense. I really think his value is pretty low and the best use would be exchanging him for a similarly expendable veteran at a different position.
n the end the Mets agreed to pay Matz a bonus of $895,000, nearly $400,000 over slot, and its possible that ownership had no intention of letting him get away. Then again, Minaya on Monday said he was on the phone with Jeff Wilpon more than once in that last hour, urging him to raise their offer.
I remember saying, Jeff, we need to do this. I told him Hey look, we need to get this guy and its not going to happen unless we get to their number, Minaya said. And to Jeffs credit, he said, OK give it to him.

A bit more to the story, but not sure how I feel about Wilpon on moves like that. You're an owner, defer to your baseball guys. They say pay him, then pay him. Which Jeff eventually agreed to but not until some twisting of the arm.
Just a wild guess here but I assume once Haren is moved, the Niese market finally opens up. Personally I dump Colon for a lesser return than Niese.
I just wish the front office liked being creative. You owe Gee $2.5mm to pitch in AAA as an insurance policy, that you don't need. Offer to pay $2mm of it to a contending team who is under payroll constraints. In exchange, get some IFA slot in return. That's the equivalent of turning Gee into a draft pick/lottery ticket. But that would require balls and creativity lol.
You asked about him a while back. Haven't heard a thing about him, but supposedly he pitched today. Not sure where. Building his arm up before promotion.
4th rounder lefty HS kid is supposed to throw tomorrow finally.

Thanks Shecky. I see he's in the GCL now. Must have had some sort of injury issue. Wilson apparently is out with a hammy issue and could join BK soon.

HAAAA. That picture of Sienna, he looks like a high as a kite version of Ryan Braun there!
Mets targets Andres Gimenez and Gregory Guerrero were ranked #2 and #6 in Baseball America's latest top 30 list of international prospects.

I think we have to look for OF help rather than IF help at this point. Cuddyer is so bad that we can't keep playing him every day.

The right move for Herrera. He really flashed some leather on this stint but he could use a lot more polish.
