And, yes, Romo did have an outstanding season. But, how did he will them to the playoffs? They had an awesome OL and a top running game. When it was time for him to will them to victory, they folded.
"I know Cowboys fans will be displeased here, but as 'Move The Sticks' host Daniel Jeremiah said to me this week, 'Romo had one of his best seasons ever last year. Why? Because they took the ball out of his hands. Eli had one of his best seasons, too, specifically because they put more on him.'" Eli Manning, DeMarco Murray lead All-NFC East Team - ( New Window )
Maybe I'm the one who is off but I really believe Eli Manning is a lot better than he's given credit for. IMO, there is maybe 4 or 5 better QBs. I know Eli doesn't have the numbers but the bastid has played his whole (until 2014) career in that hi-risk vertical passing game.
His Oline has been shit for many years or when it was decent, he didn't have more than 1 good receiver. If Eli swapped with Romo this year, what do you think would happen?
I'd bet Eli would tear up the conference and the Giants would take anther step back. Anyone who rates Romo overall as a better QB than Eli needs their f'ing head examined.
and the reasons given don't make much sense to me. I don't know who Greg Price is, but he's probably not the most reputable guy when it comes to his opinions about the NFL.
I also agree. But you have to remember, the most pundits who put out these "top 'n' lists" don't take those things into consideration. They look at fantasy results only.
linked to int stat total. It seems like you can play a drinking game when reading an Eli blurb or analysis. Take a shot every time they refer to an INT stat.
Did the media or writers do this shot for Brett F? The guy led the league in INT 3 times as well and is the all time leader in INT total. Did they refer to that when Brett F played or did they just file it away under the label, "gun slinger"?

Nope. Just "gunslinger" with a short chuckle if mention of Favre's Ints came up.
I know what being a homer is and isn't. I've always tried to base my Giants comments on reality and try to look at players from a bit of a distance like I would for players on any other team.
Eli was maddening in his beginning here with his inconsistent play. He finally seemed to get it all together around 2006-2007. That was a sun-of-a-bitch of an offense to learn AND have your guys on the same page. When that happened on rare occasions, the offense was unstoppable.
You give Eli a little time or a good player like Cruz/Barber/Beckham/Steve Smith, Jr. that get in sync, Eli will rip you a new asshole. No quarterback thrives with shit players around him at the NFL level. I've seen many BBI posters lament how we really won't appreciate Eli until he's gone but at least some of us do.
Anish- I too am really glad we got our wish and do get to see Eli in a more QB friendly offense. He's going to be great this year.
Anyone who has watch our Giants over the last 20 years should know what it's like to search in vain for a good QB. After Simms, we had quite a few guys under center that never really panned out. We hoped Graham & Collins would be the one. Nope. We should all enjoy Eli's final 8 years in the NFL.
on the list. In fact, I would have guessed they would have put Ryan instead go eli. After all. the amazing Matty ice made the NFL network top 100 players.
mrvax - Yeah I would have been so pissed if Eli had 1 system his whole career while other QBs had 2 or 3 systems. Still annoyed that it took 10 years to finally see a change. But hopefully Eli can play a lot longer in this system and put up stats that are higher than the numbers he put up in the previous system.
Agree. Maybe if Ryan consulted some baseball people on arm strength and conditioning, his arrow would be pointed a little higher in the national media's eyes than Eli's?
Eli, if everything comes together, is poised for the type of season that will shut up a lot of people. I've always believed he would be an NFL MVP; he almost pulled it off in 2011. Maybe this is the year!
But he didn't fold in the playoffs. They were one rules screw job away from 1st and goal to end the game.
And an asinine picking up a flag that could have ended their run in the first game.
Yes, cowboy fans conveniently forget the blatant one sided officiating that happened in their playoff game against Detroit. There was not only the one you sited, but also a non-holding call on a later crucial third down completion when Suh was tackled.
Instead they CRY about the officials following the rules as they are written. They expect there to be favoritism given their team, and cannot stand it when things are done fairly!
If it wasn't for the public criticism when the blatant favoritism the cowboys received against the Lions, who knows what would have happened with that call on the non-catch by Bryant. Maybe the officials would have found a way to cheat for the cowboys.
His Oline has been shit for many years or when it was decent, he didn't have more than 1 good receiver...
Nothing's weaker than the "Eli hasn't had weapons" argument. It just makes folks here sound like homeristic fools, while at the same time it belittles some really GREAT Giants. Tiki, Brandon, Ahmad, 2 x 1000 yard runners 1 year... When the OL was good, he was throwing to Plax, Toomer, Steve Smith, Shockey, Manningham, and when not so hot he had Nicks, Cruz. Hell he had David Tyree make him look good on one of the luckiest heaves in NFL history.
Romo has had a less talented crew mostly, and his 3rd WRs have let him down innumerable times. Patrick Crayton, choke job...
Eli's been great mostly, and been a great ROI on a hefty investment to acquire him. You don't need to shit on a boatload of very good Giants to praise him further.
Agree. Maybe if Ryan consulted some baseball people on arm strength and conditioning, his arrow would be pointed a little higher in the national media's eyes than Eli's?
I thought his cool moniker alone would have put him over Eli. So that list surprising in a good way that Eli made it. Another NFl.com article said Ryan made the superstar club for his consistent good stats.

a lucky heave would be one where the receiver ends up with it even though the throw went elsewhere. Like "The Immaculate Reception" or even the Seattle catch right before the killer INT.
Tyree went up and grabbed a pass and pinned it to his head as he was falling down. Tough to wonder where else eli could have put that.
I see the luck just being that the ball didn't touch the ground, not in the way that the QB threw a horrible pass.
But then again, I'll never understand giants fans who still shit on or reluctantly congratulate Eli but will trumpet a guy like romo.

You do realize that Romo has had the following weapons...
Dez
Owens
Witten
Austin
Glenn
Murray
Barber
And look at some ol. Frederick, smith, allen, guoarde, free, nartin, Leonard davis. These guys outside martin, who will be, are all multiple pro bowlers.
Eli had had 3 skilled players make the pro bowl in the last 7 years. Smith, cruz, beckham... all made it once. And what's funny when you compare their skilled players is that Romo gets these players for a lot of years
Name me 1 offensive player that eli has played with that you considered one of the best in the game for 3 years or more running.

Ryan has never impressed me.
I actually think he has improved and is a good QB. He actually is even better person, so I do root for him. I just think the national media and non falcons fans over rated him.
Eli Manning, DeMarco Murray lead All-NFC East Team - ( New Window )
He just can't will his team to new heights.
I smell a T-shirt slogan there......
4500 and 35 isn't out of the realm.

Says a lot about football IQ there.
