will we see Matz pinch hit?
It really is incredible
Stufftherun : 6/30/2015 9:07 pm : link
how often we witness the opposition's weak or struggling SP/SP's come in and throw a gem against our boys. What an awful and anemic band of ball players.
I don't recall the Mets of years past

being this bad offensively.

Well, the mets and phillies are fighting over who has
PhiPsi125 : 6/30/2015 9:13 pm : link
the worst offense in the NL...and I think the mets are winning. They have the worst offense in the league. And, yes, they also hit the most amount of pop flies. I know most think the hitting coach is useless...but it's weird how the coach can't help them AT ALL.

Meanwhile, the mets have one of the best pitching staffs in the league. Alderson has done a fantastic job of keeping the mets in baseball purgatory.
TDA

needs to learn another position. Catching is just not in the cards for his body.
TDA has never played anywhere besides C and a tiny bit of 1B.

I've seen a few people say he should move to a corner OF spot but that could be Murphy bad. He has absolutely no experience there.

You're right. The Mets do hit a lot of pop-ups. Because all of those assholes drop their back shoulder before the swing. And a major league hitting coach can't see and correct this?

Mets are hopeless - hitters, coaches, manager, FO, and owners. They are wasting tremendous young pitching talent.
Does anyone believe our pitchers will sign long-term contracts, even if the cheap bastard owners ponied up the cash?
Fucking inept offense

true but Plawecki doesn't seem to be much of a ML hitter at this point.

Did anybody actually think tejada wouldn't strike out there?
Giants4246 : 6/30/2015 9:30 pm : link
Fucking joke that guy is still a met.
We'd be selling way low on TDA if we traded him right now.
arcarsenal : 6/30/2015 9:31 pm : link
It also creates another hole in the lineup.

I think our best bet is to just hope the guy can stop getting hurt every 2 weeks and stay in the lineup. If not, he has no value in a trade anyway.
Jon Niese just pitched a gem
spike : 6/30/2015 9:32 pm : link
Dodgers and Cubs better make us some good offers!

His 4th quality start in a row! We should have no problem keeping him this year. I would rather get rid of Colon.
This is seriously pathetic though.

moespree : 6/30/2015 9:35 pm : link
Not even an average one, a below average one, would be enough to make the playoffs with the pitching. It's really unbelievable how piss poor the offense actually is.
I've never seen a

lineup with so many players hitting below .250
It's amazing that
Stufftherun : 6/30/2015 9:36 pm : link
they're still above .500 but then again with the studs taking the mound day in and day out you still have a chance albeit not a very good one.

tomorrow.

Newsflash....
Chris L. : 6/30/2015 9:38 pm : link
Ruben Tejada still sucks!!!!! Don't know why this team continues to have faith in this guy. For a team that can't hit you can't have him in the lineup. Much rather take my chances on the potential of the young kid.
This team is floundering, uninspiring, and free-falling
PhiPsi125 : 6/30/2015 9:45 pm : link
as they do every single year under Collins leadership...and he's still here.

Most may think that the manager has no bearing on wins and losses and I wholeheartedly disagree. This team needs a major spark, a major change...and dumping that anchor Collins is just that move. It's not just this game - it's every game for the past five seasons. Bottom line is that no other team would have kept Collins for this long. NONE.

What it tells me is that Sandy and Co had no intention in competing this year at all. That's unfortunate and a complete waste. Rant over.

And Tejada returning to the starting SS position

Honestly, it doesn't matter. A goldfish could do a better job. How about anyone that will inject any type of energy in the team. A manager that will be aggressive and help their team manufacture runs.

Bottom line is that they should have fired him after last season as they started to move forward. If your GM has to be talked into keeping your manager, that's generally not a good thing. But nobody can convince me that they would continue to be this bad if they had a remotely decent, aggressive manager.

I'm just frustrated. Never been a Collins can.

I heard Andy Martino on the WFAN one day, say there is no way Wally is going to get it because Alderson wants someone that is basically a YES man. If they fire Collins, they'll just give to Bob Geren. Alderson is the real problem.

#Mets manager Terry Collins: "I don't give a s--- if it's the Cubs or New York City College. We've got to win tomorrow's game."
If they fire Collins i'd bet they just hand it to Teuffel
Eric on Li : 6/30/2015 11:11 pm : link
and honestly no matter who they gave the job to it wouldn't make a difference. The hitting problem didn't get fixed against Cincinnati, they kept doing exactly what they had been doing which was score less than their meager season average of 3.5 and it wouldn't get fixed changing a manager.

Tejada blows, Granderson is streaky, Flores, Lagares & Plawecki are young. Murphy back helps but as we've all said, they need a lot more.

Ugggggh, please no to Tueffel.
It's even more aggravating seeing this past offseason biggest potential acquisition siting in the visitor dugout.
I think it's safe to say that how each team handled the managers

Kirk is terrible. If Cadaver lands on the DL and they start trotting that guy out there in LF every day, that basically tells me this org does not give a flying shit about trying to win baseball games.

Very frustratingly, it's those fringe of the roster moves that this FO just doesn't focus on. The clubhouse could really use a scrapper type too. Perfect backup OF for the Mets.

But just adds to the glut of OF the Sox have. Would love to see a Gee for Jackie BrAdley or Victorino move.
FYI, in all the Niese to Cubs talk
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 7/1/2015 9:59 am : link
Jon Heyman tweeted on Monday, that while conversations were had between the two clubs, the Cubs have moved on to looking at the Padres' Tyson Ross and Andrew Cashner (who was a top Cubs prospect traded to the Padres for Anthony Rizzo).

I personally like both guys and feel they'd be better out of SD. Ross has a problem with walks, and Cashner was good early and got no help, and I think his confidence is shot.
Am I the only one?
Shecky : 7/1/2015 10:05 am : link
We need bats. Which means trading a pitcher. The better the pitcher traded, the better the bat.
Niese is fine. A lefty. A veteran. A competitor. I don't mind him being our 5th starter AT ALL. And I actually like his contract. See no reason to be in a rush to dump him.
Colon is the same as Niese, but a goner after this year. I'd rather a bag of balls for Colon than moving Niese, but I know I'm in the minority.

I wouldn't move Matz but I'm not against moving Thor. Who do you see as a realistic target, though? Say we are willing to move Thor.. what type of matches would we get?

I don't think a guy like Gomez is enough return and Thor won't be enough to fetch a Frazier. If Thor could net Bogaerts, I would make that swap.

I just don't know what's realistic and if we'd even move one of the big 4. Seems like the FO is expending all of their energy trying to pawn Niese/Colon off on someone.

Do you think that's Collins? I don't. This is an organizational decision that goes to the top. While it is very possible, even likely, that Collins agrees with the move, I don't think it was his decision alone.

I do agree with you in general about TC, he's pretty terrible, but Sparky Anderson couldn't get anything out of this bunch.
I don't
Metnut : 7/1/2015 10:17 am : link
like Tejada at the SS position, but does it really matter at this point? I've been a huge Flores guy but he's made a ton of mistakes on defense and has been ice cold at the plate. I'd rather leave him at SS, but he's still getting everyday ABs playing 2B and our defense is likely slightly better each night with him at 2B and Tejada at SS.

IMO, if we want to contend next year, we should sign Justin Upton and Ian Desmond and qualify Murphy. Flores and Herrera can start in AAA and whoever is doing better gets first shot once someone (likely Wright) gets hurt. Desmond isn't having a good year, but that might make him relatively affordable. He has a really good long term track record as being a plus SS and would make us better.
