We have a lot of cap room and it will get larger in 2016. My question is why would we go on a spending spree this year, when all the real difference makers will be F/A's next year?? There's also been talk about Monroe, he's young, will command big contract ,and plays Porzingas' position. Why did we draft Porzingas if we're going after Monroe hard.???

It you can't land mid level talent when you have ample cap space it may suggest that you will serious trouble landing big stars the following year.
Monroe and Porzingis really don't play the same positions

There are no bigs available next year, unless you're a real big Ian Mahinmi fan.
I thought he was LA's second choice after Love, and LA might be LMA's second choice after the Spurs. Haven't talked to my boy in some time, he's busy with website ventures and the LA Times.
I thought San Antonio moved Splitter prior to their meeting with LMA.
They did, that's why Blazers and their fans are annoyed. No one is accusing them of tampering but it is more than evident that the Spurs had a bit of a head start with LMA. It happens.
I was just wondering why we would commit possibly half of the available money now to possibly one body when we are going to need more than one. Thank you for the position explanation between Porzingis and Monroe!
LMA would be 2nd choice for Lakers behind Love, he's a better player than Love.
It has more to do with him being a favorite son of LA. UCLA favorite coming home is a big deal.
He played at UCLA for one year. He's not from LA. This whole connection to LA thing has been completely overblown for years.
Why would him playing at UCLA matter to Lakers brass? They should be concerned about one thing and one thing only, getting the better player, and i dont think anyone can argue Love is better. Getting a favorite son of LA doesn't matter to Mitch Kupchak, nor should it.

Could see why they'd think that but teams make gutsy decisions like that a lot. Lakers did that one year with Lamar Odom to free space for a trade for Paul I think. Rockets did that last year with Asik and Lin to go after Chris Bosh.
About a year ago I was told they coveted Love, and planned to make a pitch for him the first chance they got. That was backed up by Larry Coon. Like I said, haven't talked to the friend in awhile and it's possible LMA moved ahead of Love, can't say either way for certain.

worse team, less money, stronger conference....

Yeah I know, but he was apparently all about the Lakers in recent years. Playing with Lebron probably has enough power to reverse course.
