When he returns from his expected DL Stint, I think we have to bench the guy. Every thing he puts in play is almost always a double play ball, and the rest of the time he Ks. What a god awful signing he has been. I wonder if he used up all his energy in spring training because he was socking the ball then. It is such a Kick in the balls we had to give up a 1st round pick to get this guy. I'm very much in the bring up Conforto crowd, not that I think he will do amazing, but i think he is the best option until the trade eadline arrives and we can get a zobrist type player.
I don't like Alderson and his offensive smugness but god forbid any of these signings just played to their career averages. Is that so much to ask? Literally I believe if today we traded cuddyer for Chris young, then for the rest of the year cuddyer would be excellent and young terrible. It's insanity what the mets Jersey does.
Also God forbid any of the rookies we bring up just bats .250. Is that too crazy? They all come up and proceed to bat between. .180 and .220. That's not much different than any pitchers career average.
A couple of those guys would get hits but someone would also get injured fielding a ball because... Mets.
The good news about the Matz "leak" several days before his promotion. Is that the FO completely understands the team and fan base NEED a jolt. And the four game win streak from "leak to Matz Day" only reaffirmed it.
Shame that the owners make a LOTTTTT more money when the team wins a few extra games,,, so maybe, just maybe, if all an owner cares about is making money... En just maybe he wants to win a couple of Lctober games. Just a silly thought.
IMO, this has Wilpon's fingerprints all over it, as we've heard Cuddyer is a friend of Wright and by how quick the signing happened. Just a poor move and poor asset management.
I'd bring up Kirk for a week or two before considering promoting Conforto.

with winning is not close to the front burner with this ownership.

Just a delusion is more like it.
Outstanding point HH. The easy answer is usual easy for a reason.

Kirk is brutal. The Mets need to make a move for another OFer. Doesn't have to be Gomez or Braun.. Parra, Victorino, etc.. those guys won't cost Thor/Matz/Conforto.
When Cadaver is back make him the 4th OFer and play him at 1B vs some LHP until Duda gets his head out of his ass.
keithlaw retweeted Mets Daddy
I think so, although it's a big jump from AA (which he just reached) to the majors.
keithlaw added,
Mets Daddy @MetsDaddy2013
@keithlaw With Cuddyer's knee injury (presumed serious) is Conforto the best option the Mets have at this point (assuming he wasn't already)
I'd bring him up today.
I did not claim ownership and management do not care about winning.
Honestly, if think injuries should be used as a crutch and the so-called "next man up" concept is a not a viable solution then that's your prerogative but my point was really more that injuries have been an all too convenient excuse for the continued struggles of the every day lineup for far too long. Sure, management is not going to avoid the subject of injuries altogether however they're also not going to highlight, say, the dearth of talent, lack of development or their over valuation of certain position players whether coming up through the system or through FA. We, the fans, get to make that call, as subjective as it can be, by watching the results on the field day in and day out. Bottom line is, management/ownership is not above reproach when it comes to an overall assessment.
They should really trade for an above avg OF for Niese
No it wouldn't be for PR. It would be because he's the best option. You really want to see Kirk back up here? Bringjng Conforto up would be no different than the Cubs bringing up Schwarber the other week.
I want to see all those remaining ABs go to Wilmer Flores, Dilson Herrera, Kevin Plawecki (if Travis can't stay healthy) and Michael Conforto. If they need to go through rookie learning curve and slumps, have them get that experience this season. It will only make their potential to improve 2016 and beyond better.
We all know that would t last - and here it is!
Conforto can't possibly perform worse, so why not?
Why would it be a mistake? Can he be better than Cuddyer?
What's next for Conforto? Hitting for inflated averages in Vegas?
I don't see the downside.
Cuddy was brought in as a two year bridge until one of the kids was (hopefully) ready to take over LF. You don't pay a guy 10 mill/year to be a spare part.
Young was dumped because, outside of a few big hits, absolutely sucked while here.
he was terrible.
"we all"? More than half the fans I know hated the signing. When I read it I felt like I was kicked in the stomach. I hated the signing from day 1 and felt it was a waste. The only solace I took was I believed "this must be the catalyst for other moves the Mets are gong to make to improve the team"
but alas, no other moves came and we're right where a lot of people expected to be.
Thanks arc

Bringing up Conforto is a no win situation. Literally the ONLY reason he would be called up is for the PR, and that would backfire anyway.

Lol. So your example is the kid tearing through AA, like Conforto?
Who was called up specifically to fill a role for a few MLB games, to then be sent to AAA. Which he was. And is now struggling in AAA??
Advantage for Conforto to at least see Vegas isn't his stats. It's so he can see several veteran junkballers and see how he adjusts. And when he does,he will be ready to be called up.
Plenty of players go from AA to the majors and are successful.

Looking very promising, very early, but very encouraging
Gomez & Byrd are 2 guys I'd be highly interested in adding (obviously at different costs).
I don't like Alderson and his offensive smugness but god forbid any of these signings just played to their career averages. Is that so much to ask?
When you are signing players on the downside of their careers, yes it is too much to ask.
You'll get Kirk N.
and most of us posted when he signed "Cuddyer is going to be hurt a lot"
shitty signing.
100% Yes - that was the exact comp I made in the offseason. They need to add a potential full time OFer over the next month and deal with Cuddyer's PT later on. One of the Dodgers guys, Byrd, Gomez, Braun, whoever - but they need a full time OF'er.
the contract wasn't unreasonable, no. And yes, the pick stung, but whatever..
it's the fact that management thought he was dependable enough, given his past and age, to contribute a full season at a high level.
I wonder just exactly what it would take to get Gomez from the Brewers ?? He's in his walk year, right ?? He's a Boras Client, right ?? I wonder if the Brewers would let him go for 2nd tier cost-controlled pitchers like Niese and Montero or something ??
You'll get Kirk N.
"Minaya-level aggressive"
You mean, the last time the mets were good? Blast minaya all you want, fact remains that he built a damn good team. I wish alderson had a little minaya in him.

Not knocking Minaya. History has proven him to be a very good talent evaluator and a good GM who made free agent mistakes. It's fact that he believed in aggressive promotions in the minor leagues.

Got it. Understood.
Sometimes a radical move is what's needed. To the bold go the spoils. It's hard to give Alderson the benefit of the doubt for yet another year, but I guess what else are we left to do? I'm tired of complaining but I have absolutely zero faith that Alderson will do anything but sit on his hands. Because that's what history has shown us. That bullet he says he has is probably to a BB gun.
If Conforto is a better option than Kirk N or Travis Taijeron then I think you bring him up.
He would NOT be the first player with almost 500 minor league at-bats to go from AA to the majors
Mets don't think cuddyer will miss more than a few days. No DL for now.

Let's hit a round of GIDPs in celebration.
Many people here judged Herrera had 'nothing to prove' so bring him up. That hasn't worked out very well to date. His approach at the plate is pedestrian. He has no clue how to handle off speed offerings.
I guess it's too much to ask the Mets organization to approach these things the smart way. The only thing we can count on is they will approach them in the cheapest way possible that won't get them publicly vilified.
Gets a B to a B plus for his drafting. Conforto. Nimmo. Smith
Gets an F- for his free agency. Granderson and Cuddyer. Maybe raise it to a C cause of Colon
