NFT: Michael Cuddyer

CMicks3110 : 7/1/2015 7:19 am
When he returns from his expected DL Stint, I think we have to bench the guy. Every thing he puts in play is almost always a double play ball, and the rest of the time he Ks. What a god awful signing he has been. I wonder if he used up all his energy in spring training because he was socking the ball then. It is such a Kick in the balls we had to give up a 1st round pick to get this guy. I'm very much in the bring up Conforto crowd, not that I think he will do amazing, but i think he is the best option until the trade eadline arrives and we can get a zobrist type player.

No two ways about it. Another one of aldersons brilliant moves.
I like Alderson
CMicks3110 : 7/1/2015 7:35 am : link
but his free agent record has been dumbfounding. The one thing i'll say is that he hasn't hamstrung the franchise with longer term contracts for bad players like Minaya. But losing the 1st round pick was really bad. I wouldn't mind trading for Marlon Byrd again, he probably wouldn't cost that much.
Michael Conforto

Is it really not possible to trade for a Gerardo Parra type player and plug him in? If Conforto is still raking, we call him up in Sept and get him in there.
Maybe we'll bring up
Tanker20 : 7/1/2015 8:15 am : link
Akeel Morris to play left field.

I don't like Alderson and his offensive smugness but god forbid any of these signings just played to their career averages. Is that so much to ask? Literally I believe if today we traded cuddyer for Chris young, then for the rest of the year cuddyer would be excellent and young terrible. It's insanity what the mets Jersey does.

Also God forbid any of the rookies we bring up just bats .250. Is that too crazy? They all come up and proceed to bat between. .180 and .220. That's not much different than any pitchers career average.
If they played for 1 game

A couple of those guys would get hits but someone would also get injured fielding a ball because... Mets.

The good news about the Matz "leak" several days before his promotion. Is that the FO completely understands the team and fan base NEED a jolt. And the four game win streak from "leak to Matz Day" only reaffirmed it.

too convenient excuse of injuires will be in play yet again for the Manager, GM and ownership. The closest thing we have in the lineup to a legit .300 hitter is Murph and he was dreadful at the start of the season then of course went down with an injury. Round and around it goes, where it stops nobody knows.
It's a convient excuse if you really

The mets should just put Cuddyer on the DL

Shame that the owners make a LOTTTTT more money when the team wins a few extra games,,, so maybe, just maybe, if all an owner cares about is making money... En just maybe he wants to win a couple of Lctober games. Just a silly thought.

a ton of time the past few seasons and his overall numbers were inflated by Coors field anyway. He's a horrible defensive outfielder and we gave up a 1st round pick to pay for his age 36 and age 37 seasons.

IMO, this has Wilpon's fingerprints all over it, as we've heard Cuddyer is a friend of Wright and by how quick the signing happened. Just a poor move and poor asset management.

I'd bring up Kirk for a week or two before considering promoting Conforto.

Kirk is brutal. The Mets need to make a move for another OFer. Doesn't have to be Gomez or Braun.. Parra, Victorino, etc.. those guys won't cost Thor/Matz/Conforto.

When Cadaver is back make him the 4th OFer and play him at 1B vs some LHP until Duda gets his head out of his ass.

No reason not to bring up the kid from AA. If eh fails so what? We sent D'Arnua down last year. Shit happens, if he has the make up to be a pro athlete in NY he'll be fine either way.
If Conforto

I'd bring him up today.

I did not claim ownership and management do not care about winning.

Honestly, if think injuries should be used as a crutch and the so-called "next man up" concept is a not a viable solution then that's your prerogative but my point was really more that injuries have been an all too convenient excuse for the continued struggles of the every day lineup for far too long. Sure, management is not going to avoid the subject of injuries altogether however they're also not going to highlight, say, the dearth of talent, lack of development or their over valuation of certain position players whether coming up through the system or through FA. We, the fans, get to make that call, as subjective as it can be, by watching the results on the field day in and day out. Bottom line is, management/ownership is not above reproach when it comes to an overall assessment.

NYG27 : 7/1/2015 10:47 am : link
I'd rather give ABs to all our young hitting prospects the rest of the season. I think we need Granderson in the lineup but we need to bench/DL/trade Cuddyer and Tejada the remainder of the season.

I want to see all those remaining ABs go to Wilmer Flores, Dilson Herrera, Kevin Plawecki (if Travis can't stay healthy) and Michael Conforto. If they need to go through rookie learning curve and slumps, have them get that experience this season. It will only make their potential to improve 2016 and beyond better.
The one thing Cuddy had going for him this season

Why would it be a mistake? Can he be better than Cuddyer?

What's next for Conforto? Hitting for inflated averages in Vegas?

I don't see the downside.

Samiam : 7/1/2015 10:51 am : link
Can anyone explain what happened with him? He's obviously a player who could help the Mets but he was ridden out of town. In Alderson's defense, I don't think Cuddyer was brought here to be a full time payer and maybe if he was used more sparingly, he'd be more efefective. But, there are not many options. I agree with the post above that the signing has Wilpon's fingerprints all over it.
I remember distinctly
CMicks3110 : 7/1/2015 10:58 am : link
that the front office targeted Cuddyer, and when the rockies made a qualifying offer, they cringed. They went ahead anyway. Look, we all liked the signing when it happened - other than sacrificing the 1st round pick. We thought, here we go, we have another professional hitter in the lineup- a la murphy. He he .332 last year. He batted .311 and .280 away from coors field in 2013 and 2014. But he just does not look like a good hitter. I rarely ever see him hit the ball hard. So many of his actual hits have been bleeders and bloops, not line drives. His bat just looks awfully slow and he guesses on pitches to make up for that. He is just not that good of a player. More the reason to move him to the bench, he could be decent in a smaller role, and continue to help the clubhouse. But I don't think he's a starter anymore. Its a sunk cost, so whatever. Just get someone else out there. Even Cecilliani, will at least provide good defense.

Cuddy was brought in as a two year bridge until one of the kids was (hopefully) ready to take over LF. You don't pay a guy 10 mill/year to be a spare part.

Young was dumped because, outside of a few big hits, absolutely sucked while here.

"we all"? More than half the fans I know hated the signing. When I read it I felt like I was kicked in the stomach. I hated the signing from day 1 and felt it was a waste. The only solace I took was I believed "this must be the catalyst for other moves the Mets are gong to make to improve the team"

but alas, no other moves came and we're right where a lot of people expected to be.

Lol. So your example is the kid tearing through AA, like Conforto?

Who was called up specifically to fill a role for a few MLB games, to then be sent to AAA. Which he was. And is now struggling in AAA??

Advantage for Conforto to at least see Vegas isn't his stats. It's so he can see several veteran junkballers and see how he adjusts. And when he does,he will be ready to be called up.
If he were a high school kid

young for the level or young for MLB I'd agree, but he's 22 years old, played college, and has 450+ minor league at-bats.

Plenty of players go from AA to the majors and are successful.
