I should say.
Suns would be an interesting spot for him

they'd have to shed bledsoe but still

Chandler and Tucker are solid defensive players. Get the Morris twins to switch off at the 3. Can even go small with Markieff at the 5, its given them success. Booker, Warren, Morris and Len off the bench. Not a terrible deal.

that team isn't that much different than Portland now that I think about it.
Wait until next year
DCOrange : 7/1/2015 10:01 pm : link
Knicks are better off just sucking until next year rather than sign the also rans just to justify doing something. Willing to bet that they put themselves back into cap-hell by throwing stupid money at mediocre guys. No one worth long term dollars is coming to NY - maybe Monroe and even he receives mixed reviews. Aaron Afflalo? Robin Lopez? Just suck it up and suck so more because signing these guys with a quickly aging Melo would be a disaster.
There is no next year. There's no savior in next years FA

I'd sooner trade off the Morris twins and/or Len to make room. TC, LMA, Bledsoe, Knight as the core.

GMEN46 : 7/1/2015 10:13 pm : link
It's really starting to wear on me. I was counting down the days to the draft lottery in January and the days comes and pure disappointment dropping to the 4th pick. Then I counted down the days until the draft and while I am not ready to call it a disappointment because I think Kristapas could be good, but I am just not that excited about him. I have spent the last 48 hours on bigblue and hoopshype pumped for the start of free agency and not a peep. I even got excited about adding west on the cheap for two years, but then We find out West has not interest in coming to NY. I already know how this story ends because it never changes. It ends with pure disappointment tomorrow when Monroe signs with Milwaukee, deandre resigns with the Clippers or the Mavs, LA signs with the Spurs and the Knicks end up overpaying for Afflalo and a bunch of other below average players. I have tried to stay optimistic about this, but Its been rough. And after they strike out tomorrow we will then learn next week that Kristapas will not play in summer league. Melo will ask for a trade in November, but will not be fully recovered from the knee and will start slow so Phil will trade him for 20 cents on the dollar. We will end up with top 5 worst record and to rub it in the pick we traded away will be the #1 pick and someone in next years draft will establish themselves as the best prospect since Lebron James. Yup sadly that is how I think about this team and organization. Luckily I am a Giants and Yanks fan. I could not imagine being a mets and jets fan also.
I dont think they do
nygiants16 : 7/1/2015 10:15 pm : link
but Knicks must think the have some chance at Aldridge or Jordan if they are holding off on Monroe or other players...

Phil and Mills both said they would use back channels to see if players were really interested or if they were just using New York and would not waste their time...

Just a thought

Yes, but the fact of the matter is you can maxing out Aldridge, Jordan, and Monroe. You can probably win maxing you own guys over the cap, ala the Cavs. Can you win paying $15 million per for a 3 and D player? Because that's what's going on. I get that there is inflation, but did you see anyone winning by paying $8 million for those guys last year? That cap didnt double (even next year it wont fully double vs. 2014-15).
the Cavs
MookGiants : 7/1/2015 11:05 pm : link
are going all out. Shumpert at 4/40 is nuts, the guy simply isn't any good. He shot like 10% from 3 feet and in in the NBA finals (or something close to that). Garbage player who is overrated defensively.
Still a lot of useful viable options available for us

I've come to really appreciate other teams
giantsfan44ab : 7/1/2015 11:21 pm : link
In the NBA. I can't watch baseball team outside the yanks for the life of me. If they suck, I can't do baseball. With Aldridge going to the Spurs in all likelihood and Duran/Ibakat (hopefully) healthy with Kanter, and Davis with a competent coach, and Jordan and Pierce with the clips, and Lebron/Kyrie/Love take 2 and of course the Warriors, there is some powerhouse basketball that can keep me at ease while the Knicks suck (runon intentional).
Funny thing is everyone is freaking out
Stu11 : 7/1/2015 11:23 pm : link
and virtually not one big fish has signed. The guys we'd target either re-upped with their teams- Dr. Green/Da. Green or were grotesquely over paid- D. Carrol 15 mill (anyone wishing the Knicks shelled that out? anyone?) I get it that the market has gone crazy with the cap escalating, but that doesn't mean you have to add to it. There are still better deals out there, if not this year then next. Sure Monroe may go elsewhere and we probably don't have a great shot at all at Aldridge/Jordan. However there are plenty of guys like Koufos/Lopez etc...out there that can help. Draft night really sold me on Phil. Not that Porz is a guaranteed star or anything, but it showed me that Phil is looking to build a winner. Not just make headlines or go the safe route. He knew damn well that pick would get boo'd that night. He's not going to lock us into crappy long deals just to say "look we signed someone."

Making moves like Baron Davis, mike bibby or Andrea bargnani so there's some solace in that. It's the little victories.
Good post, Stu.
bceagle05 : 7/1/2015 11:31 pm : link
Phil has been discrete, but so far he's kept his promises. He said he wouldn't make the Stoudemire mistake of overpaying his fourth or fifth option, and I take him at his word.

Stu11 : 7/1/2015 11:44 pm : link
and their speculative tweets. However one thing I've learned since the summer of 2010 is that these guys no shit. They tweet all kinds of crap when the big guys visit teams but they speculate a different direction every few hours. I know its like searching for a drink in the desert and it's all we have but they really are mostly full of shit until its actually an announcement of an agreement. That having been said if we lose out to the Bucks for a guy like Monroe this re-build may take even longer than I thought lol.

Quote:
Most believed Ranadive had hired Divac in a ceremonial position, but the owner quickly decided to usurp general manager Pete D'Alessandro's authority to place Divac in charge.

D'Alessandro left the Kings for a front-office job with the Denver Nuggets two weeks ago. Around the draft, several front-office executives and player agents expressed frustration about dealing with Divac on instances involving the trading and drafting of players. Divac is largely unfamiliar with the collective bargaining and salary-cap rules, causing him to struggle with grasping the machinations of negotiating and completing deals.

today should be just as nuts since we should see the big name guys sign. Both Jordan and Aldridge finish up meetings today and at least jordan had been rumored to want to finish things up quickly. Monroe is probably waiting for Jordan and/or Aldridge to sign. Should be a big day for the Knicks to see if they have a real shot with Jordan and if not if they lock up Monroe. After the Lakers pitch got destroyed id be curious to see how the Knicks pitch is perceived.

Today's Daily News has an article on FA Day #1 & in it talks to Melo at a Red Bulls game in NJ. "We haven't heard anything yet on the Knicks.I'm waiting for my phone to go off right now so I can hear some good news, but it's a waiting game. You see guys are signing up early right now and I think this free agency will be done in a short time" So why is he in NJ when other superstar(s) are completely involved in the recruiting process? Does Phil think he'd be a deterrent?

If you're scoring at home the Sixers have the following assets of value:

Embiid, Okafor (star potential)
Noel (all-star potential)
Stauskas, Saric (harder to project)
Covington, Hollis Thompson (cheap & signed for years)

Sixteen draft picks in the next four drafts, including eight 1st rounders and two "pick-swaps" (which increase the lottery odds)

Whether you agree with the premise of tanking or otherwise, the Sixers have are not half-assing this rebuild
Stauskas sucks
