Will not make an impact on any team for the rest of his career. You can have my word on that. There's not much value for a 33 year old PG. If you can think of one let me know. Kidd and Nash are transcendent players so don't even use those 2. Calderon is more in that Jameer Nelson/Devin Harris/Felton crew.

Andre Miller, Rod Strickland, Terry Porter, Sam Cassell, Avery Johnson
I still think Monroe ends up in NY
AnotherGiantsFan : 7/1/2015 6:52 pm : link
Monroe and Koufos/Ro Lo is enough for me to be happy as a pig in shit. We'll cross our fingers that Langston can be a SG.

@sam_amick: LaMarcus Aldridge is unlikely to make a decision by tonight, I'm told, as he wants to hear what the Knicks have to say in meeting tomorrow.
Let me not say SG
AnotherGiantsFan : 7/1/2015 6:53 pm : link
We'd just be going double PG with Langston being the off guard.

Lol, yeah ok. Aldridge just wants one last stroke to his happy ending he's been getting from teams as he's never experienced this and will never experience this again. Kind of like Melo last year.
I respect Aldridge for giving teams a fair hearing if he has interest
Torrag : 7/1/2015 6:57 pm : link
It's a long long long longshot but he'd grab the headlines and rock NYC if he chose the Knicks.
The money has to be the same, so if he wants to hear what Phil says
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/1/2015 6:57 pm : link
why not?

PaulBlakeTSU : 7/1/2015 6:58 pm : link
it's what I'd want to do. With all the attention he's getting, what's one more day to at least get a chance to hear a pitch from Phil Jackson and Madison Square Garden (though I wonder if MSG is still a "mecca" anymore given how bad the Knicks have been for so long and it no longer being where must-watch boxing fights are).
something Knicks fans should realize

Draft Combine Measurements
Jerian Grant: 6'7.5" wingspan -- 8'4" standing reach -- 198 lbs
Hardaway Jr: 6'7" wingspan -- 8'5" standing reach -- 199 lbs

Do you mean that in a good way or bad way?

Tim looks every bit the NBA shooting guard. He is exactly the kind of draft pick that fans love on draft night because he looks like he should be a good player. And then you find out that he doesn't really do a whole lot.

Grant seems to actually be a basketball player.
All those PGs
giantsfan44ab : 7/1/2015 7:00 pm : link
were better than Calderon at 33. Again, there's always a year you can point and say "yeah this PG declined and never returned". Guys like Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson had bounce back years late in their careers. When is that the case with a PG? And we are assuming Calderon is at 100% now, which is probably a very false assumption. Stretching him could be the difference between 1 and 2 max contracts.

Oh, I don't blame him one bit
AnotherGiantsFan : 7/1/2015 7:02 pm : link
It must be a blast for him. Everyone wants to feel loved. But I put zero stock into him seriously considering the Knicks.

That's not me being a pessimist either, I think the Knicks have a really good shot at getting Monroe.

Osi, I think it's impressive that a guy with legitimate PG skills has the size of a prototypical SG.
Tim hardaway was an inefficient chucked in college
giantsfan44ab : 7/1/2015 7:02 pm : link
That rode the coat tails of trey Burke en route to the championship game. Grant was by far the best player on notes dame for good 4 years and was fundamentally sound on both offense and defense.
The one positive NY
PaulBlakeTSU : 7/1/2015 7:04 pm : link
can offer Monroe that other teams can't, is that Monroe is young enough that if they offer him a max, that even if the Knicks stink, it's still NY and so he'll still get plenty of exposure.

That's making me worry even more that we are going to lose him.
wel Monroe is the Spurs backup plan for Aldridge

Spurs will get Aldridge

I dont know what your point is anymore. You said essentially that only transcendent PGs are good after at age 33 and later. That's not true. Yes PGs often decline around this age. As for Calderon last year, he was hurt.

But guarantee whatever you want. There is no accountability on the internet anyway.
My ideal realistic scenario
AnotherGiantsFan : 7/1/2015 7:13 pm : link
LMA to Spurs, Monroe to Knicks, and DJ to Mavs. Which leaves LA (Clips and Lakers) completely and utterly face fucked.
Why did the Spurs dump Splitter
Deej : 7/1/2015 7:14 pm : link
if LMA wasnt already in the fold? Doesnt add up. I 99% think Aldridge is being a dick and wasting people's time.
Dumb question that has probably been covered
bigbluehoya : 7/1/2015 7:14 pm : link
Is it known what Monroe is waiting for?

A specific meeting yet to take place? Or is every team viewing him as the 3rd domino behind LMA and Jordan, and he agrees/complies?

Forgive me, haven't been very well tuned in today...
I just meant that Grant could play SG in the NBA
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 7/1/2015 7:15 pm : link
if Hardaway could. Or atleast defend them atleast as well since he has the same size and probably better instincts.
aren't ideal and realistic scenarios mutually exclusive
Torrag : 7/1/2015 7:15 pm : link
the ideal scenario is that Aldridge chooses the Knicks imo. The more realistic scenario is we sign Monroe.

Paul Pierce 3 year deal
giantsfan44ab : 7/1/2015 7:16 pm : link
With clippers. DJ coming back?
I'm sure most players don't care
BigBlueShock : 7/1/2015 7:16 pm : link
but winning a championship with the Spurs at this point is kinda, meh. They've been there done that without you. Again, I'm sure most players don't look at it that way, but wouldn't be a ton more special to take a team that hasn't won in 40 years to the promised land?

It's stupid, fan talk, I'm fully aware. But he can be a footnote in San Antonio, or be a legend in NY. It's not enough to sway him, but I wish it was.

Everybody says he's a committed defense, and he has the functional size to be good at it. I thought the actual lone concern about Grant was that he was a pass first, pass second, shoot 3rd PG.

Can he shoot well enough to be an NBA 2?
what's the deal with Bargnani?
PaulBlakeTSU : 7/1/2015 7:19 pm : link
he's an UFA, right? Are the Knicks intending to bring him back?

But I sure as hell hope Phil isn't in there saying "yeah you'll probably win a 'ship in San antonio but that's not that cool. How bout winning one in NY?".

Even if we had no shot at him, it's kind of demoralizing, even if it's true.

Unknown. He had 4 teams on his initial list -- NY, LAL, POR, MIL. May meet with more. Things are probably complicated by the fact that he may seek a 1+1, 2+1, or 3+1 deal. So he may be weighing 1+1 in NY vs 2+1 in NY 2+1 in LA (etc.). Then factor in the fact that he probably wants to see what other moves these teams are lining up. Does he want to sign in LA if they sign a pure center (Robin Lopez)? Needs to learn the plan for the team (if any) and meet the coach etc.
Wanna borrow a thesaurus?
Torrag : 7/1/2015 7:20 pm : link
it might help.
If we are nit picking
AnotherGiantsFan : 7/1/2015 7:21 pm : link
The ideal scenario would be that we would sign LeBron James. Or Julius Randle, since he's much more of a known commodity than anyone else on the market.
