Danny Green to meet with Knicks
A source told Sporting News at the opening of free agency that the Knicks have major interest in Beverley, and that the interest is mutual. The Knicks contacted Beverley shortly after free agency began.
IF the player is in his prime or close to it and/or coming off one good year out of the last two seasons, he's gonna receive a contract that appears to be an over pay. I keep seeing people repeatedly say "I want this guy but only for 8 per" ---forget it...you won't get the player.
So either you "over pay" or you don't get the player. Take your pick. The only bargains you will find in FA are the guys that are a little older or more likely, a little younger and unproven. IF the guy has done anything of note in the NBA he's gonna be overpaid this off-season.
Because when a man offers you $120 million to play basketball, you say yes.
I think Jordan is signing with the Mavs, Parsons has been recruiting him hard...
I think Knicks somehow get rid of Calderon whether it is trade him or stretch him and they sign Monroe and a bunch of role players to surround him and Melo...
Jordan's Max is about 20 million more than Monroe at 4 years (Jordan at 5 years could max out at 43.5 more but he's reportedly not looking for 5)
I think we'll get Monroe, but I'm really not thrilled with that.
The Knicks have held preliminary discussions with free agent vet Willie Green, speaking twice since midnight, league sources tell RealGM.

Why? At 16 million, he's an absolute steal. I also think his best basketball is ahead of him. He has been playing out of position at PF.
Scott Skiles clashed with him in Milwaukee and was the factor behind him getting traded to Orlando. Now he is in Orlando and is being asked if they should give him the max and it looks like a hard no.
Detroit will give him the max. Does anyone else besides me see SVG is trying to reincarnate his Magic Finals team?
Drummond as Howard
Harris as Lewis
Ilyasova as Turkoglu
Jackson as Nelson
KCP as Lee
If we can get either of them for $10 million or less I'd do it. Stretch Calderon and get O'Quinn at $4 million (as suggested by Zach Lowe).
Monroe is a solid player and he gives you interior scoring and rebounding. He's a legit big. He's well worth the "mini" max deal he's gonna command. It would be money well spent. And just because he isn't Dwight Howard defensively doesn't mean he's a total liability on that end of the court.
With all the talk about Monroe to the Knicks I'm curious what everyone thinks about him Vs Brook. Whose better?

and one of the SG's. Hopefully its green or mathews (or even wade) and not afflalo.

Given the contracts being thrown around, it's hard to believe that any of those guys will get less than 10 million.

If you take into account their injury histories, than Monroe by a mile.

Little different types of players. Lopez has a better track record and scoring ability and can space the floor better than Monroe can. Monroe a better rebounder.
Monroe though is more durable, younger, and would make less money giving him a more valuable contract. Would rather sign up for Monroe right now.
All that said, when you take injuries into account, I feel alot safer with Monroe.
lopez is an underrated defender. Hes just never been a willing rebounder until the 2nd half of last year.
Aminu had a really good playoffs and Portland has money to just throw around so I don't think thats a good benchmark.
lazy analysis is good.. and that is what you are doing there.
what D3 league is she playing? fellow D3 hoop alum.

He's a name where the cap room may dry up and his market will shrink. I like him on a cheap deal too. I was really talking about the SG trio of Green, Afflalo and Matthews. Those dudes are gonna get paid.
Not saying "better" defender means he is a good defender. Hes not a good on ball defender, but he gets 2 blocks in a game and alters a few shots. Neither Monroe or Lopez will be any good defensively in a fast paced game.
If its true they are heaily pursuing Beverly have to assume they have a deal in place for Calderon and if they dont then that is just stupid to have that much money locked up at PG
I think he'll be better defensively because it's going to be stressed. I don't think much of anything was stressed in Detroit.

Greg Monroe is just so heavy footed as an athlete/person he'll always be limited.. I think he can be solid, but he's never going to completely turn it around. And that's fine.

with Greg Monroe is his ability to hit a jumper from 15 ft. His skill set outside of that is ideal for the Triangle, but if you're working him in the high post the ability to hit a jumper is key to keep the defense honest.

Just defend your position well... he has a big body. Use it.
We are at about 28.5 million and that's not including utilizing the stretch provision on Calderon which would free up approx another 4 million. Secondly, reports form this morning state the cap # may be 2million higher than originally projected.
That could put us at right about 34.5 million. Seems pie in the sky perhaps, but would there be enough left for an LMA or Jordan?
