Knicks and Bucks have met with Greg Monroe

Ellis talking to the Pacers about 3 for 32
Middleton to remain in Mil 5 for 70
Lopez 3 for 60 with the Nets
Thad Young 4 for 50 with the Nets

The last thing I want us to do is spend
Ash_3 : 7/1/2015 11:56 am : link
on the Carroll's of the world. Those are the sorts of guys we should be trying to develop.
Portland now has
giantsfan44ab : 7/1/2015 11:57 am : link
Mason Plumlee, Aminu Vonleh, and Leonard in the frontcourt. Monroe's lack of jump shooting is an ill-fit in Portlands system. Portland also has every incentive to tank because their pick to Denver for Afflalo gets turned into two 2nd rounders if they hit the lottery.

Can't see the LA fit. Monroe and Randle? Jeez thats going to be bad on defense.

That's true too

More than any other NBA city, the beauty of Orlando is in the eye of he beholder.

The no state income tax is a big draw for any Florida team, but you're right. Unless you're a player with kids the allure of Orlando is kind of nil.

Eric, that's not what I was meaning to convey. I was saying it's interesting how mixed their free agent history has been, there's really no parallel to them. They are the organization who hasn't been able to retain the 2 best players they've ever had, yet they've also attracted guys like TMAC and Grant Hill who were both mega free agents at the time. Almost nabbed Duncan too.

That's true. I could understand Shaq leaving, but I never understood Howard leaving. I still don't get that one.

My read on Hawks taking Splitter ($8.5m) into cap room is bye-bye DeMarre Carroll.

Id rather carroll then Afflalo. I dont really know why, but i would, ha.

Can't they give Carroll more than any other team and go over the cap to keep him? I don't see how this impacts that.

That being said... I don't want him at that inflated price.
Any chance Caroll is brought in to play the 4?
giantsfan44ab : 7/1/2015 11:59 am : link
He played the 4 early in his career. I can see him doing a decent defensive job at the 2,3, and 4. 6'10" wingspan.
yeah i dont like Monroe...
Italianju : 7/1/2015 12:00 pm : link
as a fit in either POR or LA. If POR loses LA they should just blow it up and build around lillard. I hate how quiet the Knicks are. I know its cause we dont have anyone leaking info and thats great, but i want more rumors. I mean last night we didnt even get the useless "Knicks feel Monroe meeting went great" "Best meeting ever" "better then last years meetings with blank". You know all the crap they said after the lakers met with LA,.
I have a bad feeling
SicilianGMEN : 7/1/2015 12:00 pm : link
Monroe is not coming to the Knicks and he'll go to the Lakers after the Lakers now realize LMA is going to the Spurs...
Of course
MarshallOnMontana : 7/1/2015 12:00 pm : link
Howard didn't technically leave in free agency, but that's semantics. He was only traded because he would not commit to an extension
I still think Jordan is more likely for the Lakers

If Knicks can get DeMarre Carroll and Monroe it's not a bad haul for Phil. Told Carroll would hold meetings in Atlanta.

Lakers didn't make strong impression in Aldridge meeting, sources say. Spurs can close on him. LMA expected to make decision fairly soon.

When theres $40 million on the line, thats an "investment" level signing.

And could someone please explain how a Randle/Monroe frontcourt with Russell, old Kobe, and nick young would win more than 30 games? That would have to be the worst defensive team bar none next year.

Hawks lose DeMarre Carroll to the Toronto Raptors, I'm told, on a four-year, $60-Million deal. DeMarre himself announced via Twitter.

So even as prepared as i was for absurd deals im still finding them absurd. So is afflalo at 12 a good deal now????
Carrols twitter feed
MarshallOnMontana : 7/1/2015 12:07 pm : link
Says he's a raptor.
I think it's gonna be afflalo
BeerFridge : 7/1/2015 12:07 pm : link
Fills a need, friends with Melo. Hopefully after we have Monroe locked in.
15 a year for DC?
AnotherGiantsFan : 7/1/2015 12:07 pm : link
What.....
wow glad we didn't jump on the Carroll
giantsfan44ab : 7/1/2015 12:08 pm : link
bandwagon
Monroe to the Lakers makes sense
Deej : 7/1/2015 12:08 pm : link
Randle can be flipped if need be. In a vacuum I think a player would choose LA over us, but why would Monroe want to go out west if he's trying to maximize future paydays?
Fun fact
AnotherGiantsFan : 7/1/2015 12:08 pm : link
Aaron Afflalo is 29, Demarre Carroll is turning 29 this month.
Holy shit
MarshallOnMontana : 7/1/2015 12:09 pm : link
The numbers on the Carroll deal are absurd. And his 40ish% 3 point shooting aberration year is highly unlikely to translate into Dwayne Casey's Raptor system. The hawks system created to a of open looks for him
Carroll's agent
giantsfan44ab : 7/1/2015 12:09 pm : link
deserves a major kickback for that one. He goes from making $2.5 million to $15 million in 1 year...holy shit.
Carroll is now making roughly what Harden makes

The MRI checked out after that scare in game 1 of the conference finals. Otherwise this absurd deal isn't possible.
or even better
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 7/1/2015 12:11 pm : link
Carroll is going to make $6M more than Steph Curry over the next 2 years.
good lord....that's nuts

Makes me shudder to think what kind of lunacy is yet to come.
we just need to adjust what we think value is...
Italianju : 7/1/2015 12:13 pm : link
i was saying 3-4 more then you would expect, but it might be something like double what you would expect. After seeing these deals its obvious that afflalo at 12 is at worst market value, yesterday that seemed like a horrible overpay.
Although it's
EricNY33 : 7/1/2015 12:14 pm : link
much more money this Carroll deal is eerily reminiscent of Landry Fields' deal with Toronto.
Carroll
MookGiants : 7/1/2015 12:14 pm : link
is the type of guy you need to draft and develop, and then repeat the same process when he becomes a free agent. Their value instantly goes away the second they get paid.
and that is 3-4 mill more...
Italianju : 7/1/2015 12:14 pm : link
i should have clarified that.
At this rate, I'd avoid splurging
giantsfan44ab : 7/1/2015 12:14 pm : link
on the SG market. Wait till next year when there are better options than this.
Yes, the changing cap is driving all these numbers up
BeerFridge : 7/1/2015 12:15 pm : link

I don't care what market value is

12 milly a year for AA is absurd. Let someone else pay him.
if Aldridge goes to...
Italianju : 7/1/2015 12:16 pm : link
SA i wonder if Jordan thinks harder about getting out of the West? I def dont see why any of these guys would go to the lakers right now if they want to win. I mean at least in the East a guy could think they team up with Melo and someone else and could easily be top 4 in the East (im not saying its likely, but a confident guy could think that), out west SA, GSW, and OKC all look awesome on paper and if Jordan goes back to the clippers they are solid to
hahaha.

DeMarre Carroll is now the highest paid player on an NBA team.
I said this on another thread
MarshallOnMontana : 7/1/2015 12:17 pm : link
But the cap rises more from 2015-2018 than it did from 1997-2015. This is like 2 decades worth of inflation condensed into 3 years
Melo's
MookGiants : 7/1/2015 12:17 pm : link

optimistic on Jordan or Monroe.

Damn, we could get shut out on any real difference-makers.
Beerfridge...
Italianju : 7/1/2015 12:20 pm : link
thats right. And MEM i guess. THe west is just absurd.

So im thinking we have two scenarios for the Knicks:

1- Knicks pay market value for Monroe and Afflalo - Media says "Desperate knicks overpay as usual in quick fix attempt"

2 - Knicks stay smart and dont overpay and maybe sign smaller pieces - Media says "Knicks strike out, nobody wants to play for them"
Sounds
DanMetroMan : 7/1/2015 12:20 pm : link
Like we weren't even in the final 3 for Carroll. Maybe our interest was overstated?

I don't see the connection at all. Perkins is a vet minimum guy. The Knicks arent signing him to do anything but be a bench guy who rarely plays
First of all they have to have..
Italianju : 7/1/2015 12:21 pm : link
interest in a bunch of guys at the same time. Its not like they are interested in Jordan and are waiting for him to respond before they have interest in anyone else. Also i dont like him, but Perkins is the kind of guy you need next to Monroe. Just hopefully its not Perkins cause he is overrated.
