Wackyiest bets you've ever placed on the Giants

aquidneck : 7/3/2015 2:56 am
First off, I'm not a gambling man. My father was gambling addicted when I was a kid, so I've made it a point not to gamble regularly. I don't gamble every week, every month, or even every year, but it's still fun, as a fan sometimes, to believe in your team and put your money where your mouth is.

First of my two "wackiest" Giants bets came in 1980 when I lived in Norwalk, CT. I bet my next door neighbor $10 the Giants would have a better record than the Jets for the decade of the 1980s. At the time the record was still 1-0 Jets when it came to super bowls and the Giants were coming off the worst decade in franchise history, so the bet, to my neighbor at least, seemed like a reach. But by 1980 the Giants had Simms, Young and Perkins. I figured they were on the right track. Won that bet but lived in CA by the end of the decade, lost track of my neighbor and never collected.

Second bet was on the 2008 super bowl. Bet a big Pats fan $1 Giants would win outright. Got 5-1 odds and the victory.
In the summer after the Giants won Super Bowl XLII...

we had a party and barbeque at home for friends and family. Family members from Boston were in town and of course we were discussing the Super Bowl. After hearing over and over again about how lucky Eli and the Giants were, and how great the 18-1 Patriots were,I had had enough. I made them an offer they could not refuse.

I bet them that, Eli would win another Super Bowl and the Yankees would win another World Series before Brady and the Patriots would win another championship. Even money.

Of course things got interesting after the Yankees won in 2009. Prior to Super Bowl XLVI, I called to remind them of the bet we had made years earlier and they, to their credit, acknowledged that the bet was on.

Arrogance humbled! I was paid $500.
Not wacky, but In 2007, my father ws in Vegas

and I had him place my regular bet on the Giants to win the NFC (I have some strange superstition where I prefer betting on the conference). Instead of betting $100 on the Giants at 12-1, the bet goes in at $20.

When they end up beating the Packers, my $1200 payout from the Flamingo Hilton turns out to be $240.
Don't bet on this Giants teams this year, unless...

Unless you are betting that they will be a, let's just say not much will change from last season. Still one of the worse defensive's in the league if not the worse and offensive line that looked good until Beatty went down.
Not wacky but

It was around 1994. Dave Brown was the QB and the Cowboys were unstoppable. My friend was a huge Cowboy fan and was killing me the night before the game. I bet him a steak dinner that the Giants would win with NO spread. Giamts won. It was the game where Dave brown ran over Deon Sanders and was high stepping back to the huddle. Anyone remember that?

Half way through the 2007 & 2011 seasons, you'd have had a very hard time convincing anyone that the Giants would get it together and win the Superbowl again.

Never say never unless you're an Eagles fan.

the only times during the Dan Reeves/Dave Brown era that we beat them was once in '94 and once in '96 but neither game was the "Dave runs over Deion" one. That was in late '95 in Dallas and we lost on a last second FG. God was I pissed off at the way that one ended...
I never bet on a Giants game...

But I did bet a buddy $5K in 2005 that by the end of their respective careers, Eli would have more Super Bowl wins than Donovan McNabb. Needless to say I haven't seen him or heard from him since 2009. No joke.

I made a bet with all of my Bills loving co-workers for the Giants v. Bills Super Bowl (I was the only Giants fan in the building). If I lost I was gonna make a few trays of lasagna and bring them in. I won and ate lunch free for 28 days. Yelling "Wide right" over the intercom system all day was just an added bonus!
Hmmmm
