Jordan says the Knicks are out so...
Robin Lopez has committed to the Knicks and will sign with them unless DeAndre Jordan chooses the Knicks.
In other words, Lopez is on the Knicks. While Lopez won't come cheap, he is actually a very good fit with them. He ranked third in the NBA for offensive rebounds in the 2013-14 season, he doesn't have many fouling issues, he's been very healthy in his career and he'll have a low usage rate on offense, which Carmelo Anthony will like. Lopez did have a down year in 2014-15, but he could wind up being a mid-round guy in standard leagues next season.

Meant 2/20.
Afflalo, Lopez, Porzingis and Grant is a nice influx of talent, with some money left to spend if they so choose.
Lopez
Melo
KD
Afflalo if he opts in
Grant
Sixth man is Porzingis
If everybody works out I think this is a very good team. We would need to add depth but I definitely think having Lopez and Afflalo makes it more enticing. We still have a decent chunk of change to get another solid starter/rotational player. Players are not coming here because they don't see the big picture and we lack talent. Gettin Afflalo and Lopez not only fills these holes on the team but it does so with solid players on reasonable deals while still leaving us open to financial flexibility next year too.
He also said 3/36 for Afflalo.
Quote:
said it's 12-13 per so it's likely 3 for 36-39 or 4 for 48-52
He also said 3/36 for Afflalo.
Fair enough
Who would you rather have over the next 4 years and 52 mil:
Tyson Chandler or Robin Lopez?
The same people ripping the Knicks would be the same people ripping the Knicks giving Carroll 15 million a year...
Even the 2 fat kids on ESPN ripping the Knicks and yet the Lakers somehow get a pass..who the fuck are they going to sign?
Woj said Jordan is down to Clippers and Mavs.

Lopez no brainer and yes on KOQ!!!
Oh helllllllll no. I never want to see Bargnani again.
Quote:
I wonder if Phil doesn't try to bring back Bargnani for a bargain price as well for some offense at the 5 spot. Once healthy he actually had some nice games under Fisher
Oh helllllllll no. I never want to see Bargnani again.
If they could get him to sign at the veteran minimum I think he would be a nice addition to the offense. Take away the expectations and baggage of the big contract and trading away a pick to get him and who would be better for the minimum at that position at this point?
Sure that deal sucked but hopefully Jackson would make decisions going forward based on emotions from a previous administrations trades and look only at whether if able to sign him for the minimum helps them or not.
I like Nene but what are the details. If we do sign Lopez then can we even fit him under the cap. If we could, what would be the additional piece we get? How many years does he have left on his deal?
And what price tag?
New York Knicks will meet with former 2011 No. 2 overall pick Derrick Williams today, a league source tells Sheridan Hoops.
What are you talking about?
How much can he give us at the 3?
[quote] they were in cap hell and couldn't. [/quote
The Wolves will use a good chunk of their $6 million-ish mid-level exception an annual salary exception granted to teams over the salary cap to sign Bjelica, who is from Serbia but has played in Spain and Turkey most recently.
Dan I think his contract was up.I don't think there was a buyout
Quote:
isn't happening. Wolves helped pay his buyout so they could sign

No. He had an opt out/buyout.
PF: Zinger
SF: Melo, Early, Thanasis?
SG: Afflalo, Galloway
PG: Calderon, Grant
We need at least 1 more big, preferably 2, and another SF.
Something like O'Quinn, Derrick Williams and Brewer would be okay.
Sources: Two athletic, free agent forwards rising as priorities for the Knicks: Derrick Williams and Corey Brewer.
How much can he give us at the 3?
Defense looked solid, offense looks rough. If he can develop the 3 ball he'll be something, if he can't he won't give them much beyond d
@daldridgetnt
If Generic NBA team added Porzingis, Jerian Grant, Afflalo, Robin Lopez & maybe Corey Brewer, it would be considered a very good offseason.

Reasonable comment from a guy known for being reasonable.
I kind of wonder where the offense comes from on this team though, even if you assume they get Williams and Brewer.

So true, except for Brewer. Who cant shoot so I dont really understand why he's so linked to us. Phil is probably interested at bargain prices.
I'd like to shop for some bargain hard working vets and upsider with the remaining space. What would Reggie Evans want? Cant play him with RoLo, but neither is a 33 mpg guy. We've added at least 3 hard workers. Hard work and 5 guys playing together can really make a huge difference.
Agree totally.
This team was not one star away from competing for a title. Build the young pieces and try again next year to make a splash.
A lack of a first round pick next year does hurt.

Read an interview about him not long ago. He seems happily retired. I don't think he's cut out to be an NBAer. The lifestyle and the money don't seem to work well with him.
Dolan isn't the gm. He spends money and is a good owner. If we had homegrown talent we would be in the luxury tax and Dolan wouldn't give a shit
Love the Lopez signing. Rolo (one of the best nicknames in the league) is a great combination of "dirty work" and skill. I actually think the Bucks should've signed Lopez over Monroe, that Monroe signing will really kill their defense.

How does one judge how good Fisher can be based upon that shit show? This year, at least he will have a core to work with. THEN we can judge him.
A lot of money, but I guess it was expected.
If Monroe were stronger as a defender it would bother me more.
Knicks need to add a big and some shooting.

They just added a big... LOL
They need to add a shooter. I don't like the Derrick Williams and Corey Brewer chatter.
No I agree I just thought the timing of the comment was weird.
I think Jason Smith is a good bet to come back.
I think the fact that you consider that weird, is weird.
Do it!
I have a feeling that they're going to keep Calderon because despite his salary he's still a legit NBA player and good shooter.
July 11
Quite possibly. They need size one way or another.

Thanks. Can't come fast enough.
The New York Knicks send the rights to #2 pick Skal Labissiere to the Denver Nuggets for the 7th pick. Toronto receives the Nuggets #7 pick.
Dwight Howard, Blake, Westbrook, Ibaka, Curry are just a few of the of the names.
you hope Grant and Zinger performs, Knicks win 30+ games and Melo stays health.
Now you are attractive to a Max player (Durant) in 2016
NYK will a little over $7.3m in room plus Room ML (2.8) to add more pieces. Roughly $30m in room for 2016-17.
Robin Lopez deal looking like 12.64, 13.21, 13.78, 14.3 if the deal escalates 4.5%.
Seems like way too much for Robin, but I guess it's a player's market. Good to know we have a shit ton of cap space next year...albeit with no first round pick.

Horrible trade but Dolan didn't make the trade the idiot GM did. Dolan appears to be staying out of the way lately. Wish he got in the way of that trade.
It's not all Dolan. If anything he's displayed too much loyalty and made some bad GM hirings. I think it's lazy to put everything on Dolan. The rangers have been fine for the last decade. Why? Because he allows sather and his minions to do their job. And they have done a pretty good job. When he's allowed the gms for the Knicks to do their job they have failed to build a winning team. Isaiah Thomas was a disaster. Walsh signed stat and drafted hill. What's his name traded for bargs. Felton got fat and lazy. JR smith went nuts. Woodson didn't preach defense and his act wore thin. On and on.
If anything Dolan has been too loyal. See the IT tenure.
And that fact will get NO play in the media, of course. Much more fun to go crazy about Monroe "spurning" the Knicks and choosing to live in Milwaukee rather than playing here.

Deal just sticks in my craw. When will this franchise ever learn???? Until Dolan is out, this team will suck in perpetuity.

djm, Agree w/everything you say except for Sather. He was a disaster before the NHL instituted a cap.He brought in every over the hill star at an inflated price. Without a cap, I think his bromance w/Dolan wouldn't have lasted!
Im not super upset (I did want Monroe), but I trust Falk's quotes over what reporters say they're hearing. I suspect that internally they thought they were being all smart focusing on the get-able guy, Monroe was a lock, and it's embarrassing to them that NY, the Knicks, the Mecca, and Phil Jackson lost the 4th best center in the FA market to a team that is the archetype for "well not FAs are gonna sign to live in that town".

Keep in mind that Hahn works for the Knicks. The Knicks could have planted that story.
I was listening when it was said - Hahn's radio partner (DiPietro) spoke with Ian Begley about it. True, it could be BS, but the uproar over Greg Monroe yesterday was laughable. He fit none of the criteria Phil and Fisher said they wanted going forward at the center position. Jordan and Lopez were the two Cs who did, and the Knicks went much harder after both of them.

Agreee, if the Knicks weren't all that interested, I don't believe they would rushed to meet him at the earliest time possible.
Mavs have 30 mil in space

It's hard to give an opinion with how money is being handed out this offseason. But that seems like an overpay in any market. 13.5 a year for a defensive center.
People complain about Carmelo but I actually believe he takes more criticism than he should. Let's see him with a better roster around him. If you were to create a list of players you wouldn't let walk away from you in FA, I think Melo is in that class.
As for this offseason, the additions of Grant, AA and Lopez seem like smart and reasonable acquisitions at positions of need. We can't completely suck this season without our draft pick. We needed to improve but also keep next off season in mind. I think a 6-8 seed is a realistic expectation.
At least you got the younger guy with that money.
I would like to take a shot on Derrick Williams, who sounds like a priority for us right now. Should be cheap and has high upside.
This.
I would like to take a shot on Derrick Williams, who sounds like a priority for us right now. Should be cheap and has high upside.
Agreed. Reminds me of Michael Beasley a lot which is kind of scary but there's a reason he was the #2 overall even if it was a bad draft. The due played for the wolves, Kings and the Pistons in the worst possible situations so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
My wish list with the remaining cap is either O'Quinn or Williams.
Wanna go after Gerald Green with the MLE.
Also, I read somewhere that Tobias Harris is considering of taking the qualifying offer if he doesn't get a deal he likes so he can enter free agency next year. Theoretically, could we offer him a 1 year deal that's more than his qualifying offer so he can come here?
As for Harris if we signed him to that then ORL would just match. Got to offer him at least 10 per but prolly closer to the max of 15
He's from LA, went to school in Stanford, and there were claims he didn't want to play in the same city as his brother (idk why) but still chose us over the Lakers

What about a sign and trade? We send Calderon, Early, and Mario Hezongawhatever over for him at the max. They get 2 prospects, a trade exception, and a backup PG/3 point shooter that their roster is currently lacking.

Where did you see claims he didn't want to play in the same city as his brother? There have been reports on the complete opposite. They are incredibly close and chose to go to the same college. Seems like Brook staying here played a huge role into why he wanted to be here IMO.
Patrick Beverley has agreed to a four-year, $25M deal to return to Houston, agent Kevin Bradbury tells Yahoo Sports.
They don't have bird rights so have to match using cap space or exceptions..with brewer back have to think they let him go
At least you got the younger guy with that money.
Exactly... I can't even complain.
Report: Rajon Rondo agrees to one-year, $9.5 million deal with Sacramento Kings
Pat Beverley's deal with Houston, I'm told: $ 18 million over 3 with a 5 million non guaranteed year in year 4.
Again, I like him so I'm not mad or anything. But let's be realistic here. We're paying the man a lot of money. That's why he chose us.
Does it really make sense for the Lakers to pay a B grade player that much money? What is he really going to do for them? Maybe they are taking the "we'll get em next time" approach.
Or maybe I'm dead wrong and both teams offered the same money and he chose the Knicks. But the fact that Ro Lo was the third big man signed and got the most money per year tells me that we won a bidding war.

Solid price for him. Anyone think he starts?

I think as of now he starts, with the Zinger coming off the bench.
Damn, can't believe he didn't come to the Knicks with an offer of 11 million per year despite not even having 11 million in cap space
