NFT: Knicks Chat: Robin Lopez joins the squad!

DanMetroMan : 7/3/2015 11:01 am
Jordan says the Knicks are out so...

Robin Lopez has committed to the Knicks and will sign with them unless DeAndre Jordan chooses the Knicks.
In other words, Lopez is on the Knicks. While Lopez won't come cheap, he is actually a very good fit with them. He ranked third in the NBA for offensive rebounds in the 2013-14 season, he doesn't have many fouling issues, he's been very healthy in his career and he'll have a low usage rate on offense, which Carmelo Anthony will like. Lopez did have a down year in 2014-15, but he could wind up being a mid-round guy in standard leagues next season.

Buyout
DanMetroMan : 7/3/2015 12:47 pm : link
was 1.32 million
,,,,
DanMetroMan : 7/3/2015 12:50 pm : link
Bjelica, 27, could sign a three-year, $12-million contract with Minnesota, Sportando said. The reported buyout with Fenerbahce was $1.32 million, according to USA Today. He was selected with the 35th pick in the 2010 second round by Washington and traded to the Wolves on draft night.
So right now, just to summarize, this is what our roster looks like:
Jon in NYC : 7/3/2015 12:53 pm : link
C. RoLo
PF: Zinger
SF: Melo, Early, Thanasis?
SG: Afflalo, Galloway
PG: Calderon, Grant

We need at least 1 more big, preferably 2, and another SF.

Something like O'Quinn, Derrick Williams and Brewer would be okay.
Speaking of which...

Really short on bigs.

Not a complete roster yet by far.

the team this year?
How much can he give us at the 3?

Defense looked solid, offense looks rough. If he can develop the 3 ball he'll be something, if he can't he won't give them much beyond d

If Generic NBA team added Porzingis, Jerian Grant, Afflalo, Robin Lopez & maybe Corey Brewer, it would be considered a very good offseason.

Reasonable comment from a guy known for being reasonable.

I kind of wonder where the offense comes from on this team though, even if you assume they get Williams and Brewer.
Good job so far this offseason
Torrag : 7/3/2015 1:05 pm : link
Not what we all wished for but stars want to play for contenders. Phil has a couple more bullets to fire. Stay the course.
Really don't want brewer
Italianju : 7/3/2015 1:09 pm : link
Unless it's for super cheap. I'm expecting him to get like 5 mill and I'd barely pay him more then the min.

So true, except for Brewer. Who cant shoot so I dont really understand why he's so linked to us. Phil is probably interested at bargain prices.

I'd like to shop for some bargain hard working vets and upsider with the remaining space. What would Reggie Evans want? Cant play him with RoLo, but neither is a 33 mpg guy. We've added at least 3 hard workers. Hard work and 5 guys playing together can really make a huge difference.

Agree totally.
This team was not one star away from competing for a title. Build the young pieces and try again next year to make a splash.
A lack of a first round pick next year does hurt.

I wonder what the situation is with Larry Sanders
TheMick7 : 7/3/2015 1:13 pm : link
I know he was suspended for pot & then when into a clinic for depression.Don't know if he has righted his life but if he has,he could be added cheaply & would be a huge defensive presence.

Read an interview about him not long ago. He seems happily retired. I don't think he's cut out to be an NBAer. The lifestyle and the money don't seem to work well with him.

Deal just sticks in my craw. When will this franchise ever learn???? Until Dolan is out, this team will suck in perpetuity.

Dolan isn't the gm. He spends money and is a good owner. If we had homegrown talent we would be in the luxury tax and Dolan wouldn't give a shit
So with these moves can we now focus on the job Fisher is doing
Mason : 7/3/2015 1:17 pm : link
I don't want to be back on here next year hearing but..but...but... he had nothing to work it excuse.
Brewer is a one man fast break
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 7/3/2015 1:18 pm : link
he'll get any team he plays with more easy points because the man is literally the human version of a greyhound. He also has massive balls, the guy is absolutely fearless in a non-cocky way and it just makes you appreciate his attitude so much. But he's just not a great halfcourt player on offense, he can get hot from outside every now and then but he's not a pure shooter. And on D his lack of strength limits him and he gambles so much. As a defender he's like one of those NFL safeties that might have 5+ INTs on the season but get burned a ton deep.

Love the Lopez signing. Rolo (one of the best nicknames in the league) is a great combination of "dirty work" and skill. I actually think the Bucks should've signed Lopez over Monroe, that Monroe signing will really kill their defense.
TTH I think Afflalo proved he can be an 18-20ppg guy with Orlando
Stu11 : 7/3/2015 1:40 pm : link
The other guys are a big question mark, but they probably feel that Afflalo and Melo can be in the 45-50 ppg range on a nightly basis if healthyand they'll hope for some scoring upside from the rookies/Galloway
and whats with Aldridge throwing some atual calm basketball
Stu11 : 7/3/2015 1:47 pm : link
knowledge and evaluation out there? It's more fun for the national media to just bash every move the Knicks make and laugh at them. Eventhough the pathetic Lakers can't even beat us out for Robin Lopez.
Robin Lopez 4 yrs-$54 million

Fisher was green as grass...
manh george : 7/3/2015 1:57 pm : link
and Jackson blew up what little team he had in search of cap room. Then, Melo was gone with an injury.

How does one judge how good Fisher can be based upon that shit show? This year, at least he will have a core to work with. THEN we can judge him.
4/54...
Jon in NYC : 7/3/2015 2:02 pm : link
wow.

A lot of money, but I guess it was expected.
So Monroe's deal....
manh george : 7/3/2015 2:05 pm : link
is 3 years $50 mm, which I guess is like $16MM/17/17. Knicks keep about $4 mm a year in additional cap room to play with.

If Monroe were stronger as a defender it would bother me more.

Knicks need to add a big and some shooting.

They just added a big... LOL

They need to add a shooter. I don't like the Derrick Williams and Corey Brewer chatter.
There's literally one big on the roster other than Porzingis.
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/3/2015 2:08 pm : link
They need to keep adding.
Eric

So who is the backup 5? I suspect we might want to have one of those.
This is going to get some strange reactions
EricNY33 : 7/3/2015 2:09 pm : link
but what about bringing in Jimmer Fredette to play the John Paxson/Steve Kerr shooter role?

No I agree I just thought the timing of the comment was weird.
The way the team is constructed now...
manh george : 7/3/2015 2:11 pm : link
if Lopez were to miss a stretch of games (it happens), we might average 12 rebounds a game. We need more size, period.
Wonder if they want to bring back Aldrich or Jason smith.

Nothing weird about the timing...
manh george : 7/3/2015 2:14 pm : link
I'm just trying to figure what they do with the remaining cap space, and Williams and Brewer solve neither size nor shooting.

I think the fact that you consider that weird, is weird.
Knicks still have about 7.3
Italianju : 7/3/2015 2:18 pm : link
Supposedly plus the mini ml of 2.8. That's plenty to add a couple more rotation pieces. Plus there are always a couple guys that end up having to take the min (Aldrich easily could). And the can still save that 4 mill if they want to cut Calderon.
Reggie Evans on the vet min
Deej : 7/3/2015 2:20 pm : link
Minute for minute the dude can rebound with anyone. Good enough defense, no rim protection. On offense ... did I mention his rebounding?

Do it!

I have a feeling that they're going to keep Calderon because despite his salary he's still a legit NBA player and good shooter.
Yea
Jon in NYC : 7/3/2015 2:23 pm : link
I'd bet on Jason Smith returning as well.
I agree.
Italianju : 7/3/2015 2:25 pm : link
Unless they were going t go after a Harris or something I bet they keep him as well. The 4 mill we save won't really help that much unless we were offering a big contract to someone.
I'm
DanMetroMan : 7/3/2015 2:45 pm : link
sort of surprised given the market that Smith doesn't have more interest around the league. I think Calderon, Smith and Shved are all on the Knicks to open the season.

of crazy to say but almost a "good" thing they haven't added much offense in terms of Zinger getting PT. If he can shoot as claimed he might get burn just based on the shooting/offense need

can't imagine Zinger gets much if any run at C so anyone "tall" should interest the Knicks.
