I think the Santa Clara shows were pretty good and Try killed it on Cream Puff War and Morning Dew. Wish Bobby woudln't sing so much, wish Bruce and Trey would take over more vocals. But it's big deal and the Dead were my first musical love.
lives down the street from the Weirs and went to the SC shows as their guests. Some other mutual friends flew out from the east coast because the Weirs gave them like 10 tickets and passed. Not really my cup of tea but I heard the shows were great and Trey was amazing. Chicago was selling for thousands last I heard.

but were disappointed that the band didn't play to the audience. They normally don't, but for a show/spectacle of this magnitude and meaning, my dad thought the band would have made some comments to the crowd about being there.
I'm currently in Chicago right now and it's crazy. Half the groups of people I've seen walking the streets are here for the Dead. The popular brunch spot I went to was at least 50% Dead. Half my flight this morning from NJ was filled with people for the Dead. My hotel had a special security letter about "this weekend's events, namely Grateful Dead, will bring millions of people to the city. We have included some important safety tips for your visit"
As someone who grew up on them, it is very cool to see.
I may go there tonight, but it's not too big so I'm wondering how packed it was. I'd enjoy watching with a crowd, but if it's going to be a zoo, my couch will be just fine.
I picked up some great tickets at last minute at a (relativelly) bargain price. Not going tonight, and tickets are hard to come by. Solidier's Field is absolutely the worst. Really tiny and limited entrances and exists, and pedestrian access was ridiculous. Imagine 70,000 people trying to leave at once all pushed into a 20 foot wide path. Took over an hour to walk back to the hotel.
Still, given it was my birthday, a great treat. They played alot of 70s stuff and were pretty tight. Someone posted the first set, but the second set included Mason's Children, Scarlet-Fire, Cream Puff, Playin ni the Band, Drums, Space, Help on the way-Slipknot- Franklin's Tower and with an encore of Ripple.
