If you don't want Franklins or Salt Lick (due to lines) then try Stubbs for BBQ.
Great steak houses; Sullivans, Eddie V's.
If you want a great "Wild Game" restaurant then drive outside of town to Hudon's on the Bend.
Go to the Oasis on the cliffs of Lake Travis (famous from the country song "I've got friends in low places, we hang down at the Oasis). Great sunsets, drinks, and bar type food.
Tex-Mex; Chuy's
Also lots of really good Food Trucks. Definitely one of the food truck capitals of the U.S.
& beer garden (downstairs). Nice baked goods and coffee for breakfast and then a quiet beer garden to escape the madness that is 6th street later in the day. Outdoor beer garden overlooks a "river" channel.
Lake Travis was nearly empty and these last two months filled it to over 85% full. Oasis has great views but not so great food.
Good burgers - go to Hopdoddy
Pizza - Homeslice
Pretty much any food truck
Definitely need to experience the breakfast taco
Salt lick is way too far. Takes a good 40+ mins to get there
I moved down to Austin from Jersey 4 years ago. You'll love it. Like others have said, no one really cares about the Cowboys around here.
if you're looking for something different than 6th St, check out Rainey St. Its a bunch of bars with food trucks outside or some places also serve food.
Good Cajun restaraunt I can get a crawfish boil north of town?
Second, went into town today....saw Barton springs, paddled the river, went to whole foods, rubys, toured the state capital, drove through UT.
Nice but was expecting far more.
Pretty much did everything in half a day and the city was nothing special. Small downtown, lots of construction, really not the big attraction it was made out.
Ruby's BBQ on 29th street is good.
Try the many good Mexican restaurants on East Cesar Chavez or East 7th, you can't go wrong.

Our favorite Places to eat in Austin
#1 Perlas - Oh My God -- one of the best Seafood Places Ever!
#2 Franklin BBQ - Brisket is to die for
#3 La Barbecue - Beef Ribs and Sausage!!!
Breakfast Burritos - highly recommended by bob in texas - they serve them all over and there are many truck stands that sell them too
There's some Lake over there that Berrylish is crazy about - if you email her I'm sure she'll give you the scoop.
gidie out
They care far, far less about the Cowboys than they do the Longhorns.
Also: Doubt you're a vegetarian, but if you are, go to Mr. Natural's. Killer vegetarian Mexican cuisine.

Yes -- that's the place -- she tried to get me to go there when I was in Austin
We were sorry we didn't have more time to go there
I heard Franklins is too long a line, I want BBQ chicken, any good places?
La Barbeque
all good.
