NFT: Knicks Chat! RoLo and Williams are Knick

DanMetroMan : 7/4/2015 9:37 am
The Knicks have reportedly come to an agreement with Derrick Williams on a two-year, $10 million deal.
The Knicks are grasping at straws hoping that Williams can contribute meaningfully at the NBA level. Outside of dunks and the occasional 3-pointer, Williams struggles across the board at every other aspect of the game. Even if he was granted significant minutes in New York, he should not be on the radar in standard leagues.

if he can be a 35 mpg player, great. Anything less than 20 mpg is troubling. He should absolutely be in the rotation. I just dont think he should be force fed time under a sink or swim philosophy. He could develop bad habits defensively if you put him in situations where he'll be helpless (like guarding ZBO).

don't see any reason KP can't play the same amount Exum did at 19, 22 minutes per night

I don't know if they can keep Joseph and manu
I also think if you

give him 30-35 minute come hell or high water then you might encourage bad characteristics. Guys should fear that if they dont play "right", they wont play at all.

On the floor is that jumper he is going o be a great floor spacer at minimum...so if his defense is just average he is going to play

Think his "position" as a rookie will be matchup based. Some 3's are going to be too quick and some 4's too physical. You won't have him guarding Lebron or ZBO

You also don't want him playing scared in fear his ass will get planted to the bench if he messes up. It's a two way street.

Novak got 18-20 minutes a night here, so if he cant at least fill that role as a rookie we have a lot to be worried about. Im hoping for like 20-25 mpg as a sub, with starts and more minutes towards the end of the year.

There are a lot of variables to consider
robbieballs2003 : 7/4/2015 12:33 pm : link
like matchups, injuries, flow of the game, professions, etc. With that said, I think ideally you want him to be the first big off the bench (obviously not at center though) so he gets some time with the vets at the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second quarter with a guy like Grant as has been stated earlier. Same goes for the second half. Slowly start to increase his role as he proves he can handle it and maybe even insert him as a starter with only a slight increase in minutes. Maybe increase his playing time at the end of games if he gets hot or shows to be a plus on the court to build his confidence. If you can slowly increase his minutes up to about 30 by the end of the year from the low 20s then I think that would be ideal. Well, ideal other than the fact that if he can be superstar right out of the gate.

I'm genuinely impressed that the Jazz managed to give him that many minutes with how bad he was. Good on them. It's a lot easier to say it than actually do it.

haven't been this excited about the Knicks in a while.

Two exciting rookies, three FAs, Melo's return, cap space next year. Things are looking up. Going to try to watch as much summer league ball as possible.

Mclemore was crap his rookie year
giantsfan44ab : 7/4/2015 12:41 pm : link
And he got 27 minutes a game and shot 37% and 32% from 3. A year later he shot up to 43% and 36% from 3. I think it's important to give these guys minutes.

Charlotte handled Vonleh very poorly. They gave a washed up bet Marvin Williams minutes that they could've given to Vonleh. Let him out there and figure shit out as he goes. Was disappointed on how Charlotte handled him and Zeller, tho they gave Zeller more responsibility this year and he showed improvement. I hope Portland continues to develop Vonleh properly.

I'm

super bullish on Vonleh. It's too bad he had a year under Crean. That's pretty much an entire year of wasted development.

isn't on board

Add Fabolous to the list of New York Knick fans completely flabbergasted by team president Phil Jackson’s decision to use the fourth pick in the 2015 NBA Draft on Latvian forward Kristap Porzingis. The Brooklyn emcee shared his thoughts on the selection with HipHopDX's Cherise Johnson during Roc Nation and Samsung’s private event during BET Awards Weekend.

“I didn’t really see it,” Fabolous said. “I don’t got a crystal ball or nothing, but that wasn’t the pick that I saw. I hear the Knicks have a different plan, but I thought they would grab one of the Duke or Kentucky kids—one of the young ballers and give the city a little bit more faith that it’s gonna be a change from last year. I think they traded Tim Hardaway, Jr. It’s a couple different moves. I don’t have the right understanding of it, but maybe they know something that I don’t know.”
Fab didn't even have a fabulous career in rap.

It was the worst year for him to be a 1 and done. There were no shooters aside from Yogi on the roster and he'd get doubled in the post almost every time, but he wasn't disciplined and would just bowl over defenders and rack up offensive fouls. He's one heck of a rebounder and defense though, which is baffling to me why he didn't receive any minutes in Charlotte even if his offensive game was stil under development.

He's a 3 and D guy who doesn't have the 3 yet. High energy, great defensive effort, can run the court. Offense stanks but I think IF he can improve from 3 he can be interesting. If not he's just an extra guy.

And is actually sorta decent at it. Him getting a 3 into his arsenal scares the shit out of me, but I don't think that's an end all be all for him either. He can do a lot of other things.

I dunno, I watched him a few times last year and it seems like his handle is below average for a guy who doesn't have a big time shot from the outside. He's aggressive offensively, confident but I think he's going to have trouble scoring on the NBA level without an improved jumper

I think a lot of people liked him at about $4 million, so 6 for 2 years isnt particularly out of line. When he wasnt qualified at 5.5, you had to figure the market was set below that.
