NFT: Knicks Chat! RoLo and Williams are Knick

DanMetroMan : 7/4/2015 9:37 am
The Knicks have reportedly come to an agreement with Derrick Williams on a two-year, $10 million deal.
The Knicks are grasping at straws hoping that Williams can contribute meaningfully at the NBA level. Outside of dunks and the occasional 3-pointer, Williams struggles across the board at every other aspect of the game. Even if he was granted significant minutes in New York, he should not be on the radar in standard leagues.

I really like the way the team is shaping up.

I am expecting either Aldrich or Smith back. I highly doubt they want to use Porzingis at the 5 so we need some kind of depth behind Lopez. I think O'Quinn is 6-10 so maybe they think they can get away with using him there? Definitely seems we need one more big.
O'Quinn can play center
jeffro1 : 7/4/2015 9:46 pm : link
But he is foul prone, which is why we still need one more big.
The O'Quinn move is exactly the sort

of thing we should be doing. Phil's given out reasonable to good contracts to almost every one this offseason, and the one gamble is Williamd, who I'm still cautiously hopeful about. He needs to figure out that he's not going to be a go to scorer so he'll have to improve his three ball and become more efficient given less than heavy usage.
Cap space for 2016-17 is around $17m with 8 players.

And whoever else was bullish on O'Quinn deserves some credit for this. Guarantee you Phil was scouring through New York area sports forums for some ideas.

Sarcasm, right?

Yes sir
If you can get back Aldrich, and maybe Smith

that's a fairly rugged, blue collar front court depth chart

Love when Bbi Knicks thread gets happy. We got some lunchpail junkyard dog players --- very nice.

I thought cap space available was more like 25? Even if 17 we have to assume afflalo and Derrick Williams are 99 percent opting out with higher cap so that would leave us 30 million under the cap
Yea with afflalo and williams
Italianju : 7/4/2015 11:35 pm : link
Opting out we should have close to 30. Plus we can stretch Calderon and at that point we would save like 5 mill. Of course with the opt outs you only have Melo, Lopez, Grant, KP, early, Oquinn. Cap hold on Galloway would be really small and you may have thanisis only taking up like a mill. Plus the guy we took in the second should be coming over. We are in pretty good shape right now for once.
really wish
TommyWiseau : 7/4/2015 11:47 pm : link
We had a way to pick up Koufos also who is still out there. Lopez, O'Quinn and Koufos would be one tough group.
nevermind on that
TommyWiseau : 7/4/2015 11:49 pm : link
I think he just agreed on a 4 year deal with The Kings. 4 years 33 mil?
Koufus
Italianju : 7/4/2015 11:50 pm : link
Just signed with the Kings. 4/33 I think.

Labeyrie. He supposedly has some ability. Hope he plays summer league.
Jeff Withey would make sense

Labeyrie doesn't seem to be a 5, though. From the Post recently:

"During their stop in Utah on the Knicks’ recent trip, young 7-foot-2 Frenchman shotblocking center Rudy Gobert, who is emerging as a stud, spoke glowingly and excitedly about Labeyrie in a quick interview with The Post.

Gobert shares the same agent as Labeyrie, and the two played together on the French 20-and-under national team.

“He wants to play in the NBA and I know he can, I don’t know if it can be next season, but maybe, yeah,’’ Gobert said. “I haven’t talked to him about it yet. He’s more of a power forward than center, though. He’s not a center.

“He’s athletic and can drive and can shoot. I think he’d like to be in New York. I was happy for him.’’
Labeyrie will probably be in Westchester

I doubt he's ready, but who knows?
Since Biyombo signed with Toronto, I hope we see more of this

Gotta question how good this guy is

5.3 points 3.6 boards 26% from 3 (supposedly the basis for much of his offense) 0.63 blocks in 16 minutes per

Why was he only getting 16 minutes per game as a 23 year old on some French team?
