NFT: Knicks Chat: Big KOQ joins the Knicks

Hibbert headed to the Lakers

Hibbert was informed on Saturday that he can expect to be moved to the Lakers once an agreement in principle is reached, league sources told Yahoo Sports. The Pacers have informed some rival teams including those with an interest in Hibbert that they had found a deal for him, league sources said.

Knowing the lakers luck

Hibbert will play every game with LA like he's playing against Tyson Chandler and just skull fuck the opposing center on a nightly basis. I'm thinking 2nd team all NBA and dpoy award for hibb...
Chandler

Derrick Williams on the honorable mention list?

I'm not disputing Chandler sucked!

But Fat Ray got beat off the dribble time and time again which caused Chandler to come to his man leaving RH wide open time and time again. We made no adjustments for someone else to provide "help D"

Lowe makes a comparison that I've been thinking about as well: Al Harrington.

If he can own the stretch 4 role instead of trying to force himself into being a SF, he can be a very valuable player next to Melo.
I dont have huge hopes for Williams
Deej : 7/5/2015 11:29 am : link
I dislike the contract more than the player.

But one thing to remember is that role players often shine when they're confined to reasonable roles. If Melo and Afflalo carry the scoring, Lopez and KOQ sure up the interior D, and Grant and Calderon provide some floor generalship, Williams could flourish doing the things he is good at -- average defense, very good in transition, efficient inside scoring, and maybe a corner 3. Just need to get the ball stopping out of him.

Deej : 7/5/2015 11:41 am : link
we're working on Shved and Smith. I wonder why not Aldrich. I suspect it's because he'd need to 2.8 that we've earmarked for Shved. Aldrich's rates were fantastic last year.

I'm admittedly a novice with respect to the triangle, but Williams seems to be the one guy who doesn't really fit out of those we've signed...assuming a good fit = good passing and shooting ability, with one on one ability less important. With athletic big men who can pass and play defense. But what do I know, in Jax we trust...seems like Williams is a gamble on upside. The rest of the guys we signed seem to be a good fit

Harrington was a consistent 3 ball shooter. Massive difference. I think Williams is closer to David West starter kit.

Lakers were reportedly in on Smith but with Hibbert going there maybe that ends that? I liked Shved (and did in Minnesota) but you always have to be concerned with good numbers on awful team guys. I'd still bring him back

No Sharrington was a career .350 3 pt guy. Williams is at .301, so he has a ways to go, but it's definitely on the upswing. Last year it was at .314, and supposedly he was hitting .400 from the corner.
Harrington
DanMetroMan : 7/5/2015 12:03 pm : link
was slow to gain 3 point range (first few seasons couldn't shoot from 3 at all but the 3 ball was a MAJOR part of his game in his prime. 06 he shot 43% from 3, 07 he shot 38% from 3, 08 36% from 3, 2010 36% (and was always a high volume 3 point shooter). Williams 29% in 2013, 31.4% in 2014. Hopefully it represents an upswing but Harrington absolutely had the 3 ball as a major part of his game.

Not a Knicks fan
Metnut : 7/5/2015 12:57 pm : link
but really love the offseason the Knicks have had.

I watched at least 25 ND basketball games last year and Jerian Grant is a stud. He constantly took really hard shots when the shot clock was about to expire, thus deflating his FG 3pt% a bit. He's a lights out shooter who is going to space defenses while also playing unselfish and keeping the ball moving around. Him and Melo are going play off each other really well.

It was unrealistic to expect to get a LA or DJ type in FA after the year the Knicks had. Give kudos to Phil Jackson for having a clear backup plan and acquiring solid players (a few with upside) on very reasonable contracts. It's a clear change in approach from how the Knicks have handled things the past decade.

I think they'll finish 5-7 in the terrible east (although that'll mean 42-46 wins).
Maybe the light will go on for Williams, he was a man-child at UA.
Jim in Hoboken : 7/5/2015 1:00 pm : link
Somehow, someway, someone has a highlight reel of his that's almost 10 minutes long from last year.

I just want someone to occasionally serve up a facial on the opposing team, lord knows 95% of our offense will be Melo's mid-range jumpers.

Not too familiar with O'Quinn, but from the clips apparently he manages to score and rebound without actually leaving the floor.

Fisher/Jackson are not going to let Melo dominate the ball.
manh george : 7/5/2015 1:26 pm : link
If this team is to have any kind of future, they need to prove that they can get scoring away from Melo in the triangle and with motion, passing and screens from the big guys.

They have to be able to prove that a couple of quality players next year would turn this into a solid team, and they have to reduce the risk of Melo having a bad stretch or being out with an injury.

They don't accomplish that by letting Melo be a hog.

Really? I dont know a lot about KOQ. Statistically, Oakley was more of a rebounder but KOQ is a way better rim protector. Offensively Oakley had that excellent midrange game that KOQ doesnt have yet.

Getting really excited watching OQuinn's entry passes. Really, really impressive. If he can get that mid/3 range improved then people will have to play him closer, and that entry pass will be deadly. Looks like Phil is really getting pieces that could work together as a team.

No disagreement.. The issue is they don't have actual scoring talent. Affalo's offense is long jumpers, Lopez is mostly a garbage man etc etc
Far too much hand wringing about Melo
Deej : 7/5/2015 4:10 pm : link
Melo is fantastic. He's not LeBron, but he's a really great player who I've come to appreciate a ton. He has generally had shitty supporting cast. But when he has any talent he gets his teams to the playoffs. Melo squeezed 54 wins out of group that had JR-Felton-Chandler-Q-Novak-Prigioni-Shump as the other top at minutes guys. Melo is not a problem and does not need to be managed closely.

People love LMA, but he had Lillard, Batum, and Lopez, Matthews and more. Shit, Anthony Davis missed the playoffs 2 years ago as a 25 PER player. And Dirk missed the playoffs 3 years ago.

In fairness Dirk doesn't miss the playoffs 3 years ago without getting hurt. Played only 47 games and they missed the 8 seed by 4 games.
Melo has always stopped the ball.
yatqb : 7/5/2015 4:37 pm : link
He's a great talent but has hogged the ball far too much, and can't play defense much either. It will be interesting to see if he undergoes a metamorphosis in the triangle. If not I'd be willing to trade him for the right haul.

True. But I've got more examples -- 2014/15 Heat with 106 games from Wade+Bosh, plus Deng, plus Whiteside, plus 1/3 of a season of max money Dragic, win 37 games in a gutted East. Indeed, the post-Shaq pre-LeBron Heat lived in the 40-50 win zone even with Wade. 2005/06 Wolves with a healthy, 27 PER Garnett win 33.

When Carmelo has a good supporting cast he's been a consistent 50-60 win guy. 4 straight in Denver and another time in NY.

Bulls could be a potential spot if they can't get Brooks back. Given Kyrie's situation Cleveland could use him.

Would love to see Joe Johnson in Cleveland. But usually when the rumors come about and nothing follows up after that the talks usually fall apart. I think Eric Gordon would be a solid player off the bench for them but I don't see what advantage NO would have to unload him with nothing of value in return.
It would be nice to move him....
Italianju : 7/6/2015 7:19 am : link
before the summer, but it doesnt really matter all that much. If we use the stretch provision on him next summer he will only count for like 1.5 on the cap. At least that means the knicks wont feel like they have to throw in assets to get rid of him. If a team will take him great, but if not its not that big of a deal.
I think they still need him
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/6/2015 9:31 am : link
Remember, the goal is to finish somewhere better than the lottery-area since no draft pick

Right now they look, on paper, like they really need some offensive ability. If there's a deal to be made, great, but if not, you still need to win games.
