Some of you disgust me that I'm ashamed you're Giants fans and you root for the same team that I do. Can we at least find out the severity of his injury and the circumstances surrounding his injury before we rescind the fricking contract? The guy was a huge part of a Super Bowl championship, and maybe he hasn't lived up to lofty expectations in the past few years. But, at least, be classy about this before you mock the shit out of him and call him dumb. This thread would fit in real well on igglephans.com
Agree 1000%
Doesn't JPP have a young daughter, if I was her I would sue

do stupid things too. Find me a perfect human being. They don't exist.
Smart people sit out of OTAs without a contract during negotiations of what they hope is the biggest contract that can secure the financial security for them and their family. Smart people don't follow that up a few weeks later by playing with fireworks to the point where they damaged one of their hands.
Is he was injured in a fireworks accident. That, in itself, in not very intelligent considering his profession and contract situation. Other details are needed, but the core event it not the best situation to put one's self in.

Sure they do....it's called being human last I checked....were you there?
What are the odds that this occurred in a way that didn't involve getting foolishly close to explosives, while sitting out from football workouts because he wasn't under contract?
If nothing foolish occurred, I will come back here and apologize. The odds seem small.
Hope he's ok. And why wait to see what actually happened before declaring him an idiot? I mean, if he burned himself on an iron or stove, or heater he's an idiot that should be shown the door, right? If only the team consisted of guys with perfect character. I mean who could ever imagine having guys liKe Tyree, Toomer, Diehl, McKenzie, Bradshaw, Strahan on the team.

Some of the comments on here are really pathetic. None of you have done something dumb? Hope this is a news story that's just been blown out of proportion.
So he exceeded my already low expectations for him.
In the long term this is good for the Giants. It Sabres them from potentially doing something very stupid.
The stupidity was clear the day he threw Prince in the tub. Might as well have started a countdown clock to stupidity then.
You were the first guy I thought of when I saw the Twitter rumors.
You hated Plax's re-signing, then he shot himself.
Hated JPP and does this.
Quit with the voodoo?
It's as easy as understanding why character, work ethic, and dedication are important when considering whether to invest tens of millions of dollars in them.
It's weird, there are a lot of guys that would want to let Eli walk, the guy that embodies all of those things, and yet they would have been the ones to re-sign Plaxico or JPP in spite of the way they carry themselves off the field (including practice and offseason workouts, etc...) without giving it a second thought.
The Giants have succeeded with a number of poor characters, including the two mentioned. Stupid events of this magnitude can't be predicted, and every team has a few guys they worry about to some degree.. I've been wary of signing JPP long-term for the concerns you've cited, however.
All do) or ride a motorcycle? What about skiing or cliff diving or jet skiing in vacations? I would guarantee there are many more percentage based accidents in many of those than in playing with fireworks. All have risks, but because you don't have to do the fireworks and it is unnecessary, people substitute their moral judgments about it and equate his small risk as stupid. Many athletes take small risks every day (despite certain language written into contracts) but when it is something that most people can't understand why, we criticize them. If a surgeon goes bike riding, is he an idiot?
Anyway, even if it was foolish, he wasn't under contract to anybody at the time he did it and owed nobody anything.
So he exceeded my already low expectations for him.

The tub thing again? Come on Terps.
You're gonna tell me you didn't think this guy was a complete fucking moron? At best an immature fool, at worst someone who would let a firework explode in his hand.
I hope the injury isn't bad, but he did the Giants a favor.
Haha. I didn't say that Terps. But the ice tub thing is just locker room Bullshit with some young guys clowning around.
Again, one can feel sorry for him, yet think he did an idiotic thing. We've all done stupid things. Thankfully, most of us don't have to live with the repercussions.
Very skilled practitioners get killed all the time and they are not at fault. Many NFL players have rode them, even if they had language in their contract prohibiting it. Accidents happen.
when you have no idea what you are doing is not even in the same ballpark as playing basketball, jesus christ
Yeah and buying a "truckload" of them too. I hope he is ok and that his injuries are not career threatening. I hope he learns from this. I hope the Giants get a bit of a contract discount based upon his stupidity. He obviously screwed his future contracts with other teams now too.
Same goes for if it were you or me or my next door neighbor. Falling off a ladder while fixing the roof is an accident. Dropping a knife on the foot while you're cooking dinner is an accident. This is no accident.
what do they do with the $15 million they allocated to JPP?
That is interesting question. This year it would kill us, in the years coming ahead, not sure from a football perspective if signing him long term is a good decision for us. We are paying him pass rusher money and besides 2011 and the end of last year, he has never shown us to be an elite pass rusher
Agree 1000%

...counting down the minutes till someone blames Jerry Reese for this.

Or better yet, Dez Bryant.

Lets see the final reports.
We could sign some olineman like Mathis

I think they can roll over to next year but not 100%
