Apparently JPP injured his hand

It wasn't bullying or abuse or anything Richie Incognito level.

The only real problem with it was how truly braindead all involved had to be to put it up online for all to see.

Prince didn't look like he enjoyed the experience. And from what he seems like, Prince seems to be a pretty darn unassuming good kid. Karma's a bitch.

Just my opinion, but they probably have a bigger problem with the fact that he and his agent are angling for a blockbuster contract more than the fear that he's going to get sent to jail or whatnot.

The ship has sailed for his big pay day as each day moving fwrd from this incident only lessens the value of his worth. He would of been smart to agree to terms that were probably already offered and rejected by his camp.

Well that's not true. He could have a great season, in which case he'd get paid what he wants from someone.

Extending Burress when they didn't have to and banking on him in 2008 actually did end up blowing up in their face (or in his sweatpants), so I'm not sure what Terps would be waiting for there.

Breh dogged it pretty much throughout that season, save opening night, and then shot himself off the field down the stretch, when the team wasn't in position to find a suitable replacement for him/his role.

I was going to ask does he even need to inform the Giants of his injury updates. I thought he took his physical just a few weeks ago when he was at the facility. The only thing left was for him to sign the tender.
...
christian : 7/5/2015 11:43 pm : link
And then the Giants summarily cut him, making great work of a well-crafted team friendly contract, that had little to no long term cap impact. Which then didn't impact their medium term success, both on the field or financially.

The point is it's intellectually lazy to say "trade all the dumb guys" when the market place is full of early 20s, entitled athletes. It's a calculated risk market, where you leverage your investments as much as possible.

The idea that dumping JPP two years ago is a sound football or financial premise is about the most foolish football comment I've seen posted in some time.
I think there's a 50-50 chance the Giants rescind the tender
shockeyisthebest8056 : 7/5/2015 11:48 pm : link
REGARDLESS of how the injuries shake out. I'm not going to say that "he's hurting the team" B.S. However, there's clearly a lack of intelligence and maturity that's astounding when you consider what he personally has on the line. He honestly could've ruined the lives of his family and future children with this stunt.

I'm perfectly fine with never seeing JPP in a Giants uniform again and that's coming from someone who wouldn't have suspended Plax after his shooting.

He burned his hand on a freakin fire work. Now are fireworks kind of stupid? Yes. Is it safe to say lots of other NFL players partook in the stupid tradition of lighting things on fire to see sparks and colors? Yup.

I mean we're trying to play future judgement tarot cards with a workforce that runs into each other for a living.

He made a judgement mistake, it sounds like he's ok, and I bet the dude keeps it to the fairgrounds next 4th.

Unless he's hurt to the point his performance is effected, management changing anything would be the truly stupid step.

Calling a guy unsophisticated bothers you? Frankly that's sugarcoating it. If you follow the team and watch interviews it's quite obvious JPP is dumb. Doesn't mean he is a bad guy or I wouldn't have a beer with him. Doesn't mean I don't like him or don't appreciate what he can do on a football field for my team. It's just the truth. when someone mentioned having a problem seeing pictures of JPP's gold chains.

JPP's intelligence occasionally gets questioned because of his lack of command of the English language. But when you then go through your laundry list of problems you have with him and it contains "gold chains" many will question why your brain went there.

Oh, and you can always find capone on the thread to jump on the side of the potentially racist/ignorant comment. THAT'S far more telling to me of someone who either thinks any comment is justified, or doesn't want his own thought process questioned ever.

You see patterns in people around here and some are certainly creating unfavorable patterns.

an entire U-Haul van full of fireworks, which is what was reported as being outside his home, qualifies as "explosives."

It also qualifies as remarkably stupid in the hands of a non-professional.

Even if the injuries aren't "career-threatening," it seems likely that he will lose considerable workout time while healing, and thus won't be ready until some time during the season. The Giants should rescind their offer and offer him a smaller payout. No one is going to be in a rush to pay JPP an elite player's salary for this year.

And into the future, he is going to pay a substantial "stupid tax," even if he eventually heals fully, which we don't know yet that he will.

a quick google indicates that in Florida, consumer fireworks are limited to the 'sparkler' category similar to what is now allowed in NY. Unless it malfunctions, these don't explode. I wonder if he had illegal fireworks, or if he was dumb enough to try holding one of the showering fountains?

The Giants absolutely shouldn't get cute and drop his tender. This is a business built on asset risk management. This is a league where Greg Hardy is employable. The last thing the Giants should do is get cute with JPP and risk losing their best defensive player for no compensation. If they pull their exclusivity and create tension with his camp, there will be a team willing to take the risk. The Patriots would be on the line with him in an instant.

You handle the risk with every player, and the more risky guys you hedge the best you can. The Giants have done well with this under JR. With a player with variable productivity and health like JPP, they will construct any offer to protect themselves. If he doesn't bite, they'll let him walk. They've shipped of truly bad fits like Shockey, and they've constructed contracts to get out of with players like Burress and Bradshaw who showed character and behavior concerns.

But if they drop the tender and bate another team to steal JPP the stupid tax is on them.

I hope for a speedy recovery, and that the injuries are not serious, he is a father of a young child ... but as a player, he is nothing special, he had one breakout season off the backs of 92 and 72 ... since his been an average player who disappears when needed and certainly is not the lightning rod we push him to be ...

having said that, I am sure he will not be ready for the opener, wont be able to lift, and was not intending on attending camp to begin with ... the funny thing to see will be whether he changes his stance and now shows up at camp in order to look like a good employee ...

This thread should contribute a lot to the "What have we learned this week" thread.

What I have learned is that having a negative view of someone sporting a plethora of gold chains is racist. Then again, it doesn't really take much to cross that threshold here. My best friend (English/French) used to sport a multitude of gold chains and we all would rag on him for his "Mr T starter set".

As for JPP, I hope he's ok and this doesn't affect his career, but the giants need to be cautious here.
