Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul injured his hands in a fireworks accident in South Florida, according to ESPN sources and multiple reports. A source tells ESPN that Pierre-Paul has bad burns on his palm and tips of three fingers. One finger is being checked for nerve damage, but the source said it is believed Pierre-Paul will be fine.
If you don't know what you are doing than don't do it!
When I first heard this report I told myself two things:
1. I hope it ain't bad. Praying....
2. If it is bad, at least he hasn't signed his tender!
I mean, if this injury cost him say camp and maybe beyond, do you pay him all that money or let him go? I say let him go and likely get a #3 compensation pick for him as someone would sign him to big money.
Let's hope there is no nerve damage as well and he's able to participate at camp at some point. The guy has been training hard. From pictures & videos, he looks really fit.
"he'll be fine" is vague. severe burns/nerve damage to finger tips means you could lose sensation/feeling. when i had my acl done they damaged a nerve and to this day i cant feel when i kneel on it. it's numb
if that happens it will be tough to get anything done in the NFL. praying for the best
I am not thrilled with the team tying up so much $$$$$ in this guy and have very little faith that he is going to get better. I believe the Giants are lukewarm as well. How can u be so foolish when there is that much $$$ on the table and technically you don't have a contract? I will not be upset when his ship sets sail.
Its hard enough to understand why anyone would put their life, health and career in jeopardy by doing something as dangerous as playing with fireworks. But its almost impossible to understand what was going through the mind of Jason Pierre-Paul this weekend, considering everything else he had at stake.
Because at this point in his offseason the only thing the 26-year-old defensive end shouldve been doing with his hand was signing the one-year, $14.813 million contract offer thats been sitting on his table since late February
one year, giving Moore, Odi and others a chance to get acclimated and then let JPP go. Note that his one dominant season was 2011, when Osi, Tuck, Kiwi and Canty all had plenty in the tank. JPP isn't the guy who makes the others better. He needs others to make him better.
Worse for him, this incident just confirms the suspicions many have about him. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.
starting off with the Mets after JPP almost blows off his hand ,I swear this station sucks and its not even a mets station anymore thats the funny thing

NYC Sports talk radio in the summertime is inbearable. All baseball. All the fucking time. Nothing else. No other sports exist.
I don't watch any baseball, and yet simply through osmosis by listening to WFAN, I can easily name maybe 30-40 NY baseball players between the Yankees and Mets.

I was on the road last week and listened to the FAN for the first time in a while...NBA free agency, the US Women making a World Cup run, and what were they talking about for an hour?
The Mets bullpen.
It's pretty funny actually, but not worth listening to
In FAN's defense, there really isn't much out there on the JPP
incident. I've been on SI.com, CBSSports.com, mainly just wire reports and no real news, just speculation. Even Ralph V's piece is more a commentary on JPP's stupidity, no real news about the injury.
like "why would he risk it all over fireworks" or "why not hire a professional." Look, I'm assuming many of you don't live in states where you can buy fireworks and set them off legally. Every since I moved to Utah from New York I've been setting off fireworks. It's fun. I even do it drunk, sometimes very drunk. It's a simple process, you light and run.
I've never hurt myself doing it. I've never seen one of my equally drunk friends hurt themselves doing this. You act like these guys should stay in their houses and train for football non-stop. I think its badass he rented a Uhaul and filled it with fireworks. If I had large amounts of money thats probably exactly what I would do.
For all we know this was a freak accident where a firework exploded weird or early and hit his hand. He could have also been holding it to set it off...which would be dumb. The point is stop being your parents.
There would be nothing unfortunate about pulling the tender

Right...drive in any city/town that has legal fireworks on the 4th, there are at least 3 houses per street setting these off, very commonplace and pretty safe assuming you are taking basic precautions.

Nothing yet from the Giants. Haven't even confirmed or denied injuries. In fact everything positive seems to be the JPP camp.
@AndySlater: Jason Pierre-Paul update: As of 90 mins ago, he was still in hospital. Hand injury so severe, he could still possibly lose it.
if that happens it will be tough to get anything done in the NFL. praying for the best

That doesn't sound good at all. Hopefully he is just an out of the loop local reporter being a little too dramatic.

I agree, it doesn't bode well...I'm hoping it's only logistics
Unfortunately pulling the tender has to be a real possibility

Fact that JPP remains in hospital 36 hrs or so after accident tells you damage not minor #Giants

Indeed.
