Not even close, not with Beatty and JPP having healthy boobs and hands were we a threat.
I'd disagree. If both Beatty and JPP were 100% healthy and playing up to their abilities for 2015 we'd have been competitive at least.
Beatty-Pugh-Richburg-Schwarz-Flowers would have been a solid OL and the run blocking would be substantially improved.
JPP is a force against the run at least and with big man Ellis, an improving Hankins, and solid DL rotation we'd have been much better at stopping the run this year.
Alas, that ain't happening so as of this moment I don't see us having better than an 8-8 roller-coaster type season. We just don't have enough superstars outside of Eli & Beckham on offense and really no one on defense outside of maybe DRC (if healthy) and maybe JPP (if on his game) to warrant consistent play and wins, especially when we face better competition.
Our only hope is if the youth really comes on and plays better than ever:
Moore, OWA, Taylor, Behre, Collins, Kennard, Bromley, Wynn all have to play over their pay grades on defense AND on offense Beckham must stay healthy and we have to hope a TE like cunningham or Robinson explodes onto the scene.
We could also use some superb WR play outside of Beckham along with a return to health of Cruz.
At least the Philly beat reporter acknowledges that we are a threat.
I'm a believer because history shows it is unlikely that Dallas repeats, and while I might buy the sports science philosophy, I don't believe in Philly's QB and they have let a lot of talent leave this past year.
We won six games last year, but had to almost work to give away a couple more. We had terrible injuries, and a defense that had lost all inspiration from its defensive coordinator. We were learning a new offense.
We'll see improved defense just based on the lift that Spags will give this team. I believe in Collins in the secondary and a healthy DRC and Prince will help to buy time for the pass rush to get home. Losing JPP hurts, but we were already crowded on the DL, so it's time for the youngsters to step up. I also believe in Odi - he's the kind of guy who might not play early but in December could be making a difference for us on the field.
Offensively we will be much improved, with a healthier Eli, the return of Cruz, Vereen, and continued development of Washington. Based on reports it would seem that Cunningham at TE might be a significant upgrade over Fells, and also that Eli is bringing it all together nicely.
Specials have been addressed as well.
There is every reason to believe this team is 2-3 wins better than last year's, which means 8-9 wins if they don't get any luck, and double-digit wins if they do. It's the Giants turn to get lucky on the field again.
Phily and Dallas suffer key injuries and nothing else happens to the Giants then 8-8 may win the division. Frankly, this season has the makings of devastation for this franchise. With the injuries to-date, too many questions, and TC already on the ropes the season is beginning to look like the Fassell and Reeves last stand. The uncertainty is infinite in January if the Giants win less than six games.
It would have been very tall order BEFORE Beatty and the JPP fiasco
we have to hope for injuries, and more suspensions in Dallas's case, to the other teams. My sense is the Giants will suck, TC announces his retirement in early December, and the Giants win one for TC by spoiling the Eagles season in a must-win game at the end. The fans go home for the winter happy.
Regardless of how handicapped we might currently appear to be with talent I believe that any team can beat any other team on any given Sunday in this sport. It all depends on a few good bounces, a few lucky breaks, a few calls our way. This is why I never get upset about our losses except maybe when we lose to the cowboys.
We've lost many games we should have won and we've won many games we should have lost as has every other team in this sport. So you never know and I see no reason to throw in the towel before camp even starts.
If these games were all sure winners or losers we'd all be making millions gambling on the NFL Line.
and we have possibly lost two starters, where we have no depth...
Because it's the NFL, are they a threat? Any team is....
But realistically, who else will drop between now and opening day? Sometimes you are afraid to open BBI and find out what happened that day....Yes , the same thing could happen to other teams in the NFC East, but they just don't seem as vulnerable as the Giants do....
The Dallas games will be the same - back and forth, with who makes a defensive stop winning. Who is on their D again? They are not better with McFadden. He is 5 years removed from his only year rushing for over 707 yds
I don't see why they wouldn't have any chance. A lot of things happen between now and the end of the year. The Giants won't be favored but the only team I'd say has no shot is the Redskins. (As usual)
but which five? After that, it's a crap-shoot. There's just too many questions especially on defense to make me optimistic and now without JPP there even less hope.
I know I shouldn't, but I'm already wondering if the Giants get a top five do they let Eli walk if a quality #1 QB is available?
think of the best case scenarios, if this guy does this and that guy does that and this happens we can go 12-4. The reality is, the Giants are reed thin at a lot of positions and although I hate to say, injuries are going to happen in Training Camp & the PreSeason games. If those injuries are in spots where there is a lack of depth, they will finish closer to last that first
but losing a healthy JPP is a big blow to those hopes -- it felt kinda like losing Cruz last season -- I wasn't as blown up by losing Beatty as I was at JPP -- but this is going to effect his conditioning, even if he is able to play -- and I think - best case scenario is that JPP is a non-factor in games 1-6 -- which is brutal
NY Giants best shot right now is if the Offense just becomes so dynamic that they have a scoring fest every game and carry the team through at least the first half of the season - if that happens we have a shot -- if the Giants start out slow and don't get JPP going -- we are fukked for another season
We have Eli and a potentially very potent offense. Things have to gel quickly on the O-line but that isn't out of the question.
The division is weak. Philadelphia had a crap offseason and are heading in the wrong direction imo. Washington stinks it would take a massive reversal from Bob to make them a factor. I just don't see it.
That leaves Dallas who lost their best running back and didn't replace him.
To see if I am crazy or everybody else is crazy. Why can't we win the division? Dallas played so above their talent level on defense last year. I think they come back down to reality. Their offense lost Murray so we will see if it was truly all their OL. Romo is older. Witten is older. Dez can't do it by himself. Philly has a QB who might as well be put up next to David in Florence. They traded McCoy. Granted he didn't play as well as he normally did in the past. They do have DeMarco but he's always banged up. Last year was the exception. RBs usually take a big hit after they touch the ball as much as he did last year. Their defense wasn't really good but they were opportunistic with their defensive scores. Their special teams were great at scoring too. Can they keep that up? The Redskins are a mess.
Every team has flaws. Why can't we win the division?
did it take 3 season to finally get rid of Perry Fewell when he sucked right out of the gate and most of us saw it right away, and now here we are trying to instill confidence in a new DC all over again...

I swear I think some of you have forgotten the last thirty years of football. Teams go from last place to first place all the time. And it's never predictable, it only makes sense after the fact.

McClain is also suspended 4 games and he was one of their best defensive players year.
I am not buying Dallas this year. I think they will be a 9ish maybe 10 win team. There's no powerhouse in this division. I really do not think NYG are that far behind the Eagles (if at all ) OR the Cowboys.

That is asking an awful lot.
Yeah maybe not now with Beatty having a boobectomy and our all-pro de sitting in a hospital like wile E coyote all blown up. Doesn't bode well
So maybe.

If we can figure out how to beat Philly.
The Dallas games will be the same - back and forth, with who makes a defensive stop winning. Who is on their D again? They are not better with McFadden. He is 5 years removed from his only year rushing for over 707 yds
The Giants are a better team than Washington
A competent DC for the Giants helps immensely.
I know I shouldn't, but I'm already wondering if the Giants get a top five do they let Eli walk if a quality #1 QB is available?
I see no reason why the team can't contend.
The NFC East isn't exactly stacked.

In the stretch run we may just be adding in a fresh LT and RDE, and that could go a long way toward overcoming any injuries incurred along the way.
There may not be a stretch run when they return....
The division is weak. Philadelphia had a crap offseason and are heading in the wrong direction imo. Washington stinks it would take a massive reversal from Bob to make them a factor. I just don't see it.

When exactly were they healthy, save for a few games?
Of course, the Giants are a threat.
Fixed.
Every team has flaws. Why can't we win the division?
Fans often see what they want to see and make sweeping generalizations about it. Gilbride sucked too, right?
