The Knicks actively tried to trade down in the draft to pick up two more proven assets, but never came close to a deal. Despite the cries to take a proven college player at No. 4, Mills said Porzingis had too much upside to pass on at that spot. “We just thought he was one of those guys that had so much upside and had certain skills that you just don’t see,’’ Mills said. “You don’t see a 7-2 kid [the Knicks list him at 7-foot-3] that can shoot the ball the way he can, passes the ball pretty well and has an incredible vertical. We looked at what he offered and thought it was a very rare thing that he has and we thought we’d go with it. “The ACB, while it’s not the NBA, it’s as good as any college conference here [in America],’’ Mills added. “The competition that he’s playing against, they’re actually grown men who’ve been professionals for a long time.’’ By taking a project like Porzingis, whose natural position is more forward than center, the Knicks knew they would need a center in free agency. Mills suggested Robin Lopez, who signed a four-year, $54 million contract earlier this month, was indeed Plan C. “We knew that when we got the fourth pick, we weren’t going to get one of the big guys that were going with the top three,’’ Mills said. “We knew we needed a center. We left for the trip with three boards: One said if DeAndre Jordan wanted to play with us, what we would do. We had another board that was if we were able to get Greg Monroe, but then we had a third board that had Lopez at the top of it. The Lopez board was the most complete in terms of it included [additional Knicks free-agent pickups] Kyle O’Quinn and Arron Afflalo.’’ Mills confirmed The Post’s report the Knicks canceled a meeting with top free agent LaMarcus Aldridge after being told they had almost zero chance. |
Maybe it's the space cadet look on his face, but I dont have a lot of confidence that Fisher has any idea what to do. My only solace is in the fact that Phil really knows him.
Porzingod for rookie player-coach. Let the legend begin.
D'Lo is the only prospect that has disappointed. Everyone else is fine with their guy.
Look Fisher definitely has to prove something but you guys are reaching by dissecting summer league strategies.
Fisher gets another year with an actual NBA roster. Last year simply doesn't count and if you're one of the many that wanted the Knicks to suck bad enough to get a good lottery pick, well...they sucked bad enough.
And redrafting? lol...stop...please.

Fisher gets 0% "bonus points" for the Knicks landing a lottery pick.
Bucks President Peter Feigin had told Wisconsin officials that the team could move to Las Vegas or Seattle if it doesn't get public funding for a new arena.
No. Which is why I'm concerned until I see Fisher doing a good job. His leash is likely insanely long.
Also, I think we will see him taking more threes as he settles into the stretch 4. IMO he / the Knicks want to get him as many post reps as possible against NBA type talent because he's going to have a lot of trouble getting any kind of position against NBA 4's his first year especially.
That is going to be a nice weapon to have next to Melo when he gets doubled...
Vegas is roughly the same size as OKC, Portland, and Milwaukee and larger than Sacramento, Atlanta, Miami, Minneapolis, Cleveland, New Orleans, etc. I imagine the local population can more than support a pro team and if you include tourists, they'd sell plenty of tickets.
I have no patience for the socialists who own the NBA teams. If any owner cant turn a profit with their 50% of league revenues then they should sell their team to someone else. The players should not be held responsible for the fact that these people are shitty businessmen.

There have been enough concessions made to artificially make teams financially viable. The revenue sharing and the luxury taxes are far enough. Nobody should get to cry poor anymore.
So some of the teams are spending more than 50% of their revenue on players. That said, most of their other expenses (stadium maintenance, coaches, travel, etc) I would expect to be fairly constant and any rate of growth in these should be far exceeded by the additional revenue.

You're comparing just the population within the city limits. With the exception of New Orleans, the populations of the metro areas you mentioned are significantly larger than Las Vegas'. Miami and Atlanta's are 4-5x the size. And it's the people out in the suburbs who have the money to afford the high priced NBA tickets.

Fair enough, but Vegas (by metro area population) is still larger than Cleveland, Indy, Milwaukee, Memphis, OKC, New Orleans, and Salt Lake City. And I'm sure there are other smaller metros that support other pro teams (NHL, NFL, MLB). So I don't see any reason that Vegas wouldn't have the population to support an NBA team.

The reserve shooting guard, who was named NBA sixth man of the year in 2010 and 2014, has played for six teams over his 15-season career, most recently with the Clippers, where he averaged 15.8 points and 2.5 assists off the bench.

The Clippers' roster is heavy on shooting guards with J.J. Redick and Lance Stephenson, and Crawford's partially guaranteed contract ($5.7 million) could definitely be used as trade bait. On Tuesday, Crawford said on Twitter that he was unsure whether he would be part of the team next season.

MSA's vary wildly in size -- Las Vegas' is nearly 8000 sq. miles and extends into Arizona. It's about 4x the size of Cleveland's. The population of the Vegas area reasonably likely to attend games regularly is much smaller.
Well they just added 4 pieces of varying age lol
Melo, Afflalo, Lopez in their prime
Calderon only old guy not counting back end of the roster guys making the MIN.
He scored 1 basket on Ndour, 4 on Kirk, 1 on Porzingis & 1 when Porzingis left his man to help the Guard who got beat. That's 16 points plus he hit 2 free throws.
Yeah. No Marvin Williams or Wilson Chandler's please! But he probably doesn't want to come off as selfish and honestly has less to prove than some of these guys trying to make the team.
We have to give him a little more time to add some strength before we complain about him not getting fed the rock.
God I hope it's not a repeat of that. There were some real shitbirds on the team the year Gallo broke in, very bad leadership from Pringles, and just a general sense that the roster was the waiting area of the bus station, full of assholes who were not going to get a seat on the bus to LeBron town.
Literally everything about that era of Knicks basketball infuriates me.

Fair. But he probably wont face guys as strong as Okafor that much. And if he does pull a 260+ lbs center 18 feet away from the basket, it's probably a positive.

He has to get his shots, and speak up if he's not receiving the ball in his spots.

lmao, nice visual
2) Is Ndour just a JAG or a real potential find? I get that he's already 23 and doesnt jump out of the gym. But he blocked 2+ shots a game and sank a 3 per at 43.5%. Wingspan of 7'4 and standing reach of 9'1. Isnt that the modern NBA floor spacer/rim protector everyone is talking about? Based on measurables and college production (also 16 and 8 with a steal per), doesnt he scream Draymond Green?
If you get MSG network I think they re-run a lot of these games. Not in the east coast right now so I'm not completely sure but if I remember correctly they did last year. If not, you can get summer league pass on your phone or computer for like $5 right now, can watch archives of any game.
Shouldn't be a coincidence with Randle on the floor. I don't understand the whole hype about him. He's Kenny Faried but with negative defense. He's getting wide open drives to the rim that will be easily contained in an actual NBA game.
