Who will win the division and who will make the playoffs?

NFC East beat writers weigh in again...
NFC East Q&A: Who will win the division and who will make the playoffs? - ( New Window )
And they will be scratching their heads when

we beat Dallas in week 1.

Probably the Cowboys.

I think Dallas is the best b/c of that OL
Giants2012 : 7/17/2015 8:53 am : link
while I'm betting on the Giants getting to the playoffs (maybe just hoping).

I'm guessing Dallas is the only playoff team in the East
Greg from LI : 7/17/2015 8:54 am : link
I think the Eagles are going to fall flat on their faces, and the Giants just have way too many question marks on the defense and the OL.
Who knows

building the foundations of a playoff team for next year. We've taken some hits this year but overall the needle is pointing up. Do I think we could make the playoffs this year? Yes. Our offense should be close to awesome pending jelling of the O-line, and could be good enough to offset deficiencies in the defense. But the needle is pointing up on the defense too and by next year I envision a well balanced legitimate contender.
Dallas is the clear favorite
ZogZerg : 7/17/2015 9:05 am : link
The question is, who will be #2?

I think it's a close call
BillT : 7/17/2015 9:10 am : link
The Cowboys won it last year but they have holes and have lost some top players and are thin at a number of positions. The Eagles made so many big changes it's hard to get a handle on them but they have representative talent compared to the rest of the division. If Bradford can run that offense they can compete. The Skins really have pretty good overall talent but a huge question at QB. The Giants get back a half dozen starters that were injured last year plus some rising talent from what seems like a couple of good draft classes and have the top QB. Glad I'm not a betting man.
According to Chris Simms
bradshaw44 : 7/17/2015 9:12 am : link
The Redskins will be in the playoffs.
Its why they play the game

are writing us off already. Why can't we make the playoffs? All people do is focus on who we don't have. Why don't we look at who we do have. We have the best QB in the division. We have the best receiving corps in the division assuming Cruz is somewhat back to his normal self. We have a great diversity of running backs.

On defense, I like our DL. Forget about JPP. We have a lot of talent along the DL. Our LBs are question marks but Kennard should develop. We really just need one more LB to step up. We have the top two corners in the division. The safety group has a lot of questions but so does the whole division. We need guys to step up in our sub packages on defense.

Why is this so much worse than the other teams in the division? Dallas will not have Hardy or McClain to start the year. Why are they head and shoulders better than us? I truly don't get it.

Oh, our special teams should be improved as well.

robbie, for me it has more to do with the offensive line than anything. Dallas has a great one. We have Marshall Newhouse at one Tackle spot and an unproven rookie at the other. Our RB's look good on paper but again, our offensive line hasn't proven to be much help the past few seasons.

As far as our secondary goes, we had the deepest secondary in the league last year on paper. Injuries took care of that. Now we have two very good corners but no depth. Safeties are full of question marks.

Dallas has the better line on both sides of the ball. At least, as of now.

Dallas
grizz299 : 7/17/2015 10:18 am : link

lost Bruce Cartier, Selvy, the league leading running back and not too much else.

They picked up Jones, Lee, Hardy, Collins and Gregory (at one time and before the pot smoking incident the no. 3 rated player in the draft).

You are adding significant players (really an incredible talent pool) to a team that won last year and is now play off hardened.

They have a potentially fine ballplayer in Demarcus Lawrence who they traded up to get last year, who was hurt early (much like Beckham) and came on late. The kid is really going to be good and with Hardy will form a fine pass rushing duo. Something they completely lacked.

Imagine a line like that adding L. Collins?

Jones maybe a workout warrior and a flop, but I don't think so. I think between Scandrick, Carr, Clairborne and Jones they finally have a fine deep four.

They are well coached, particuarly on the defense where they won with nothing last year.

In a time when all teams have holes, they have remarkably few GOING INTO THE SEASON. I think this could be a superbowl team.

They could miss the great running back and in a way he protected the defense and gave them T.O.P. But the offense is so diverse and that line so strong and the defense so potentially better, that I don't count on that.

I have always believed that Romo was a limited type QB who could play well against the poorer teams but not do well in the playoffs where they forced him to stay in the pocket and make an NFL throw against tall pass rushers looking to dis-stone him. I think that and potential injuries (if Lee isn't hurt he's a superb ballplayer) might limit them.

If I'm wrong about Romo, they could, be almost unbeatable.

Before the awful off season Non-football related injuries I liked our chances. Now I think everything has to go right for us, and if we keep it close the difference at the end will be Eli over Romo. If Mosely and Flowers hold up, I see a team that's improved at every unit. And if we make the playoffs I think we can beat anyone. But when has everything gone right for us?

But seldom has the division been this un-predictable. I have no idea what we'll see out of Philly. They were clearly better (in my mind) than Dallas or us last year. And they may have improved or they may be losing everything. I respect Chris Sims and that QB in Wash. may just come back to earth and learn the game and then they're tough too.

Dallas will be good and in the hunt, that's my only given, but this division is so crazy unpredictable this year that anything can happen.

Unfortunately, I think it's Dallas.....
Doomster : 7/17/2015 10:32 am : link
Anyone can run behind that line.....and I think Dez will want to prove he is worth that contract.....Romo is still a good qb......

I agree that next year is the Giant's year....Eli will re-sign.....and Spags has another season with this defense....which makes you wonder about JPP.....I always thought he was an expensive one year rental....I do not see him in future Giant plans....so after the hand problem, why keep him? Is the front office so desperate to try and avoid another losing season, that they are willing to take a chance on him.....he is diminishing returns for 900K per week...

let's do training camps, a few pre-season games, and then predictions can be made. For many years, I have followed pre-season football magazines, which always predict that last year's teams will repeat. BBI, made up of Giant fans here has just done exactly that, Dallas won last year, so easy, they will repeat. Don't put the cart before the horse, and the verdict should follow, not precede, the evidence. Yup, Dallas did win last year, but where will they get a clutch QB who can deliver?
I think the Cowboys win the division
Mike in Long Beach : 7/17/2015 10:59 am : link
but I think we're gonna get a wild card spot this year. If Spags can just make the defense serviceable, I think our offense can get us into double digit wins.
With JPP I dont know
MotownGIANTS : 7/17/2015 11:05 am : link

Spags has to live up to his "BBI legend" of being a great tactician and motivator.

The Eagles are going to be a strong team this year -- A lot of ifs on the Giants -

The Cowboys are going to be contenders -- but so are the Eagles -- Giants, if they become an offensive juggernaut will have a chance too -- it's going to be dogfight!!!

The opening game is quite interesting

against the Cowboys...training camp hasn't even started and we are down JPP and Will Beatty, and they are down Greg Hardy, and Rolando McClain, not to mention not having DeMarco Murray and George Selvie.

Not having JPP is a huge blow, but the Cowboys will have issues of their own.

Just that you feel Romo is the big question mark that can hold Dallas back, says it all.

Romo was the equal of Aaron Rodgers last year. It's the rest of the team that needs to play to Romo's level for Dallas to win a championship.

I could post stats that show it's a myth that Romo only plays well against poor teams, but I won't. It's a myth, period.
Well Jerry Jones told Dez they're going to win 5 superbowls in a row
MetsAreBack : 7/17/2015 4:53 pm : link

so see you guys in 2021
Romo was outstanding last year
MetsAreBack : 7/17/2015 4:57 pm : link
but no, he was not "the equivalent of Aaron Rodgers"

That's not a knock on Tony... no one is/was. Rodgers was asked to do a lot more on a weekly basis for GB than Tony was asked to do for Dallas. Rodgers didnt have the Cowboys o-line and he didnt have the league's best rushing attack.

Romo's numbers were terrific... because he was asked to be more of a game manager. To his credit, he excelled in the role.

But he's not Aaron Rodgers. Stop it.

To win more playoff games Dallas needs to get better defensively. Offensively, its not the players around Romo that need to get better - who didnt have a good year offensively for DAL last year? They simply gave up too many points on the other side of the ball and couldnt stop GB's offense when it mattered last january.
Cowboys win the division
Steve in South Jersey : 7/17/2015 7:11 pm : link
most likely.

I think the Eagles get into the playoffs too.

Giants OL and DE problems will do them in.
Dallas
stretch234 : 7/17/2015 8:23 pm : link
Their offense will score points

Their OL is a very good run blocking line - it is not a very good pass blocking line. You do not sugarcoat giving up the same number of sacks as the Giants while having 130 less attempts.

Their RB situation is weaker and their 2nd WR is still a question mark

If their defense was switched with the Giants, BBI would have even more threads about concerns. Their CB are OK, their S have been slow for 5 years. S. Lee - see J. Beason. Who are their DT

Romo equivalent to Rodgers?
dep026 : 7/17/2015 8:41 pm : link
this is why I continue to say Dallas fans are the dumbest fucks I have ever seen.

Poor Tony, despite having a top 3 RB in the NFL, a top 3 WR, a HOF TE, and the best OL in football.... he still willed the Cowboys to the playoffs and another heartbreaking exit.

Only if he was given more talent to win some big games, he would be the bestest ever.

Romo was the equivalent to Russell Wilson last year. Let the ground game carry you, make some plays with your arms and legs and have a dominant unit pave the wave (Seattle defense, Dallas OLine.)

I have never seen such a "great" accomplish less in a team sport where his position is by far the most important.

I can show you stats where Romo is asked to do less, he performs better. But when asked to do more over a given year, he struggles more.

I can also show you stats where a QB with the 30th ranked defense and the 32nd ground attack can lead his team to a SB. Theres the difference. Get your weak ass Dallas shit out of here.

Our team isn't that good. I think have arguably the best QB in the division. Romo is not slouch. I think it's OBJ and then a big question mark with everyone else. Our TEs are nothing to brag about. Our OL is questionable as well.

Our DL is average and with JPP issues now it's a question mark too. Our LBs are question marks, and let's see if Beason can actually stay healthy for once. We have two good corners, but I am curious to see if DRC can stay healthy and play up to his level. I do think we have 2 good Cbs. Our safety group sucks. Our special team is a question mark too.

In the end we are not a talented team. If we make it to the playoffs that would be an amazing accomplishment.
On paper it's Dallas.
Crispino : 7/18/2015 11:45 am : link
But you have to play the games. Injuries and luck, good or bad, can account for plenty of unforeseen results. We have enough offense to contend. Specials should be better. If the defense gets it together under Spags, I think we can be in the mix for the division or wildcard.
Dallas is better until proven otherwise
djm : 7/18/2015 12:19 pm : link
But they barely beat the Giants in both games last year. The teams are closely matched.

Giants pretty much stopped getting blown out after the philly debacle last year. They turned the corner from awful to mediocre. Now they need to win. I think the arrow is pointing up but they still have to execute in the 4th quarter of these games.

I assure you no team will be treating the Giants lightly. Not with that offensive personnel. And Beatty is not out for the year. The OL will be ok and it won't have to dominate because Eli gets rid of the ball quickly and the gifted wrs will get open. Giants are just fine. Don't obsess over 3 years no playoffs and just enjoy this new team and its potential. I'm not worried I know Reese Coughlin and Eli are winners. Fuck the media and bs narrative.

And if JPP is done so be it. Next man up. I don't think he's done tho.

Try some reading and comprehension, I said last year. Romo was the equal of Rodgers and in most cases better.

Completion%: Romo 69.9(best in NFL), Rodgers 65.6
Yards per attempt: Romo 8.52(best in NFL), Rodgers 8.43
TDs: Rodgers 38, Romo 34(on 85 less attempts by Romo)
INTs: Rodgers 5, Romo 9(only category Rodgers beats Romo)
Passer rating: Romo 113.2(best in NFL), Rodgers 112.2
QBR: Romo 82.7(best in NFL), Rodgers 82.6
Wins: Romo 12, Rodgers 12
Loses: Romo 3, Rodgers 4

In the playoffs.
Completion% Romo 68.0, Rodgers 62.3
Yards per attempt: Romo 9.68, Rodgers 7.16
TDs: Romo 4, Rodgers 4
INTs: Romo 0, Rodgers 2
Passer rating: Romo 125.8, Rodgers 91.1

Last year Romo was just as good as Rodgers, period.

Comparing Romo to Wilson is just stupid. In Wilson's first two years he's had the #1 rushing offense and the #1 scoring defense. This is why Seattle has gone to the last two SB's. Wilson is just a game manager, Romo is a first tier elite QB.

P.S. You may think that Dallas fans are dumb, but your the one showing a poor football IQ.
