Apparently WWE is cutting all ties with Hulk Hogan. The rumor is there is some audio that leaked of him going on a racial tirade of some sorts but that has not been confirmed. WWE is trying to get out ahead of it to manage some of the fallout. If you go to WWE.com, all mentions of Hogan are gone. His merch is also removed from the shop and he isn't even listed as a Tough Enough judge anymore. Also, everything related to Curtis Axel has reverted from "Axelmania" back to just "Curtis Axel" Hell, he isn't listed as an inductee on the HOF page anymore, so whatever caused this must must be pretty heavy.. Here's a story about the removal, but it doesn't go into the rumored reasons why WWE is doing it. I saw that mentioned on another forum I frequent. |
BUT the rumor is that there's a really really bad rant leaked from the Gawker deposition that is basically Good Night Irene (TM Gorilla Monson RIP). There's no confirmed report of that yet.
Gawker is the site that released the Hogan sex tape allegedly without his consent - hence he sued them for $100M and is pushing them to the brink of bankruptcy if he wins. The holding company owns Deadspin, Jezebel, Gawker, and a bunch of other websites that have been at time unscrupulous in the past. Apparently the racist rant is included in the deposition.
WWE, who has had a slave character (virgil) and every black tag team has been some sort of racial stereotype has some balls cutting ties with the man that made their company.

Supposedly that's the old one and this isn't related to that.

MediaTakeOut.com got a sneak preview of on an AUDIO TAPE - which allegedly shows HULK HOGAN using the “N Word”. And he’s not using the “N*GGA” word either. After listening to the tape, which is DISGUSTING, there can be NO DOUBT that Hulk Hogan is a racist . . . at the level of the KU KLUX KLAN. The tape was discovered during the GAWKER LAWSUIT - it was from a legal deposition and was sold to the National Enquirer. We’re told that the audio tape will be out early this morning. When it comes out, we’ll post it here.

Gawker reporting on a tape it leaked as if they are not prominently involved in the story is hilarious.
i dont think he is a racist but i think he is a moron
what did he do?

Michael Hayes still has a job with WWE .Go figure

Freebirds! Lol.
Keep in mind, this is a company that just last week posted a gay escort/extortion rumor about the CFO of Conde Nast (who also is Tim Geithner's brother). The leadership of the company pulled the story after it posted because it got too much heat for what basically offered no public good but was a hit piece on a competitor. Their editorial chief quit as a result for it being pulled because of the further potential financial/legal damage and whined about an editorial firewall. Strange hill to die on. But shows what a screwed up company Gawker is and has become. If they and Hogan both go away, BFD.

Matt, I posted similar commentary elsewhere - this is all about the downfall of Gawker/Nick Denton. This is the same company that posted the Brett Favre picks after they were requested not to by the lawyers of Jenn Sterger and Favre. Denton basically acknowledges Hogan can put them out of business, and yet they still ran the CFO piece (no news value whatsoever), which is now internally dividing the site. Media company that is rotten to the core.
It just sucks seeing your childhood innocennce destroyed in this manner. We have become a society hell bent on tearing everybody around us, down.
I'm really not a fan of the media world we live in, now. At all. It's pretty much the reason I've stopped watching television altogether, outside of sports.
And before anybody gets stupid, I don't condone or support the actions of any of the men I listed in this post, I just would prefer not to know.

a sleaze operation. Years ago, when I worked in the media/publishing world, Gawker was just getting started and they began by essentially airing dirty laundry among the NY publishing companies. As time went on, they decided to be TMZ Junior and created click bait stories. The Hogan stuff has put them at a cross roads and they might have screwed themselves over. It wouldn't be shocking if they worked with their other friends to try to take him down along with their own fall.

Bobby,
Full disclosure, I worked at Conde Nast for over 8 years and still keep in touch with a lot of the higher ups. The NY media circle is surprisingly small, everyone knows everybody. Conde Nast works closely with Hearst, Time, Rodale, etc. Years ago, Gawker was a means to an end for them and the company would leak things to them for whatever political or competitive purpose. I was told that the CFO story went as high as the Newhouse family who contacted Denton and told him ditch that story or else whatever Hogan didn't get from them, Geithner and Conde's lawyers would. So Denton panicked, and pulled the story. The Gawker editors acted like spoiled kids and fought against it for journalistic integrity (as if that story really was something to defend). Good luck for any of those guys involved in the story getting another job in NY. They will need to find another line of work, they are done.

Keeping these things hush-hush has perpetuated the wretched behavior of these entitled celebrities for decades.
Out 'em. Fuck 'em.
And it's not limited to celebrities, it's everywhere. Look no further than facebook. I do not need to know, or care about the following... unprompted:
-Your political views
-Your race views
-Your sexual orientation views
-Your food preferences
-etc....
There are so many people that either willingly share information, or are have it outed by somebody else, that is not vital to me or my relationship with that person.
If I suddenly found out that my favorite restuarant chef was let's say... a racist, would I know longer frequent that establishment? Probably, but who loses? We both do, through no fault of mine.
The whole thing just sucks.
Bill Cosby and Michael Jackson have apparently committed heinous crimes, where as Hogan, and Dean, just got caught sharing private thoughts/opinions out loud. So perhaps including Cosby and Jackson clouded my opinion a bit. Nobody should get away with that.
Just wanted to clarify that.
Greg,
They are done. Alot of the big wigs across publishing are actually pissed that Gawker didn't fire them first and gave them the chance to resign. What they did was a hit piece probably to settle a score with Geithner going back to his days at Time Inc, or try to take a shot as his brother, or both. And they were a willing party to blackmail/extortion. Like I said, all the big publishing companies all know each other and work closely together. Yes, they compete, but they also have a great deal of collaboration behind the scenes.

It's National Enquirer, so grain of salt, but if those quotes are real, that's incredibly vile.
As for Michael Hayes, it's a joke he is allowed in any company. He is a bad guy. He's done a lot of bad things to and with people over the years. Seems like he might have got what's coming to him though. A trusted guy on a forum with backstage info said a few years ago CM Punk beat the living shit out of him after Hayes physically shoved and put his hands around AJ Lee's neck. The guy said Hayes was an agent during a divas segment and didn't like that AJ Lee went off script with something he got so agitated with her he shoved her into a corner, screamed in her face and threatened to choke her. So CM Punk almost killed him was what the guy said.
Interesting timing since CM Punk was supposed to be with Lita at that time and not AJ Lee yet, but I guess that's for another bizarre backstage in wrestling story...

Hulk is now apologizing.
"This is not who I am. I believe very strongly that every person in the world is important and should not be treated differently based on race, gender, orientation, religious beliefs or otherwise,"
"I am disappointed with myself that I used language that is offensive and inconsistent with my own beliefs."

Lest we forget this is the same company that employs Jerry Lawler, who has been accused of a penchant for underage girls....
comparing "backstage wrestling politics" to this is any way is dumb. Saying you're not surprised he made these remarks because he engaged in "backstage wrestling politics" is dumb as well.

for alot of other reasons, too, that have more to do with backstage wrestling politics. Biggest POS in the wrestling world, to be honest. This doesn't surprise me in the least.

Not really. They both show that he is a POS. Was just showing that he has a history of being a POS. Obviously, they are different ways of being a POS, but still a POS nonetheless. Thanks for your irrelevant opinion, though.
I don't support racism in anyway shape or form, but it's just so funny to see them drop the morality hammer so quickly, but give the fact that they're scripted storylines justifies the attempt?
Rusev is fantastic
Hogan said some shitty things, but I doubt that most people in the world have not been guilty of saying some ignorant nonsense from time to time in their lives. Luckily for most of us those lapses in judgment were not recorded.
I definitely understand a publicly traded company cutting ties with an employee who alienates large segments of the public with stupid and offensive behavior or speech. On the other hand, I can't personally get too worked up about it.
TL;DR version: Fuck Gawker, Fuck Jezebel, Fuck Deadspin.... fuck all the rest of those sleazy blogs full of terrible people writing, editing and commenting on the stories.
Yeah, he took Rollins knee hard to the face. His nose is on the side of his face. Tough sob to keep wrestling.
