NFT: Sunday Ticket

DTgiants : 7/24/2015 10:15 am
I know many on here have posted about getting Sunday Ticket free every year, I have not and have been with Directv for 20 years. The best I ever got was right around 100 for the max.I have never yelled or threatened to leave, just asked nicely. At least once a week I see or have mail that says that new customers get Sunday Ticket for free, so I called today and calmly asked for it for free and the agent said no,but I can give you $9 a month off for 6 months.

I asked if that was the best they could do and she said yes, so I told her to cancel Sunday Ticket.

I will call in about a month and try again and this time may just pull the plug all together and then I will promotion jump.
So I've been doing this every year since Mook hasn't done it for me..

I see the reoccuring payment show up on my bill. I then call that day or the next and say "The customer service rep last year told me that I would get it free for 2 years! I don't understand why I am being charged for it." And every year, they given it to me for free.

Scummy, but whatever, I need my Giants football.

I also do this for the MLB Extra Innings.
I have been with dtv
Rick5 : 7/24/2015 10:29 am : link
for about 6 years and got it for free last year by quoting a package from a cable company and requesting to cancel DTV. When I asked for the ticket for free, the rep didn't even hesitate. They also gave me some money off my bill for 3 or 6 months (can't remember) in addition to the free ticket.
holy crap I am so doing that Gianni!

except for Sunday Ticket and they still discounted it for me to $100 (I do need to maintain minimum services with DTV for 9.99 per month, but it's worth it).

So I have FiOS for all my TV's and DTV only on one TV for Sunday Ticket.

I will say DTV DVR is FAR better than FiOS DVR.

As is the menu-on DTV

but FiOS never goes out when it's windy or snows (though it rarely did anyway). the cost of FiOS on 5 TV's with whole house DVR is just a lot cheaper.
Is Sunday Ticket the only way you can watch

Giants games in other parts of the country? And do you have to have DirectTV to get it?

I'm talking legal methods, not streams or anything.

yes, it's the only reason I had Direct TV since moving to Boston in 1999.

For may years I always asked nicely for a discount and received what IMO felt like a fair discount. It was never worth lying or making threats in order to attempt to get it completely free although one year they did give it completely for free with no threats. She said she appreciated my honesty.

A couple of seasons ago I dropped it though because I just don't watch many games beside the Giants anymore, the game has changed that much. I am still able to watch the Giants through the east cost networks feeds I pay for separately and other than the occasional other game here or there that is all the NFL I'm interested at this point.
Gianni!

did it that way....only got 1 year but thanks!!!!I stop while i was ahead.
Last season it backfired on me
geemanfan : 7/24/2015 11:21 am : link
I threatened to leave and go to verizon, I told them I only needed the red zone because I have season tickets . I figured they couldn't only give the red zone without the max but I was wrong they just gave me the red zone for free.

How did you cancel DirecTV except for Sunday Ticket? I was told I couldn't get Sunday Ticket by itself and had to pay for a channel package as well.
Ive been with DTV for 15yrs

Last season, I called and complained about the bill and the offers I was getting from Comcast. DTV gave me the following for free; Sunday Ticket, NHL Center Ice, Showtime for 6 months, Starz for 3 months, Playboy TV for 3 months and the extended HD pack for 6 months.

It really is all in who you get when you call. I do plan on making my call to cancel Sunday Ticket soon.

I do have to keep a channel package. it's $9.95 per month, basic, one TV, lowest package available. so $120 and they discounted for me the Sunday Ticket Max to $99, so I pay roughly $220 per year for Sunday Ticket.

For me, it's complicated, but i save a lot of money this way.

I now have FiOS on all my TV's with DVR (5 TV's) and can record 12 shows at once (vs 5 with DTV) and I pay around $165 per month for the FiOS triple play that includes internet, local phone (my wife still gets and sends faxes for work) and TV. My company pays $100 per month for internet and $40 for local phone, so this costs me $25 per month.

My DTV bill - without paying a cent for Sunday Ticket was $185 per month.

So even the years I got free Sunday Ticket I'm saving a lot of money by lowering my DTV bill to less than $20 per month.

year I called and for the first time they wouldn't give me a discount on the ticket. HOWEVER, they gave me 20 dollars off for 1 year and other free stuff which turns out was cheaper than giving me Sunday ticket for free. Made no sense to me. I guess maybe it's a bookkeeping type of thing.

There will be 8 nationally televised games including the TB game for me.. More if the Giants are in the hunt for a playoff spot at the end.

I enjoy going to a close by bar that I can watch the Giants as well as all the other games. it's set up right.

Costs about the same for getting the ticket. Well unless I take the wife.

Last year I didn't have it and didn't miss it.
I called a week ago
halfback20 : 7/24/2015 4:42 pm : link
And the best they offered was half off Sunday ticket.

That's the thing.

I've had the Ticket for a very long time.

Giants have been good for at least 7 "national" games a year for almost 10 years straight when you count in FOX, CBS, NBC, and ESPN (NFL Network back then) games.

When they are good, I may have gotten 10 or 11 games without needing Sunday Ticket. Was it worth it for the remaining games? Depends on the person.

I like to watch every game, so I'm in it for more than just the Giants games. Gambling, fantasy team, good matchup, etc.

Regardless, I still look at it as a great value. It's $15 a week for about 200 games when you subtract the games available on ESPN/NFL or NBC, the equivalent of a 12 pack of beer and some chips.

They may only be able to do it through DirecTV and now AT&T and online.

There a very technical reason for why that I can get into but that takes longer explanation.

What the NFL would do is offer a single game for say, $29.99 and then force the customer to do a cost-analysis. You can pay for the single game, or just buy the subscription for the price being offered.

I do this every year and always get something... two weeks ago I called and threatened to go to cable, all they offered was 6 bucks a month off for 12 months, I declined and hung up..

fast forward to last Monday. I called got the Sunday Ticket Max for 167, 30 bucks off my bill for 12 mo, 2.50 off my bill (1/2 the hd charge) for 3 months, 7 bucks a mo off for 6 months (1/2 of HBO) , 5 bucks/mo off for loyalty, and 4mo free Showtime. I did have to sign a 12 mo contract (over the phone) but since I was already under contract for 9 more months it only added 3 month to my existing deal.

It seems to me they are willing to discount the ticket this year and give other "stuff" as opposed to years past where they just gave in and gave you free ticket.

I try to post on this every year to help my fellow BBI'ers who want to give it a try.

I know that I will now hear the "holier than thou" crowd say its scummy, and sleazy, dishonest to do this. I disagree... Direct TV, like more and more products today, is negotiable... it is part of their business model. If you don't want to take advantage of it or are uncomfortable doing it.... don't. just don't judge me if I do it.

good luck, I hope this helps someone out there.
Sorry to. Miller the thread but have a question
BlueHurricane : 7/25/2015 9:35 am : link
Does DTV offer Sunday ticket in a streaming only option. Don't want to put up a dish and have several PC's hooked to my TV's.
I called a week or so ago
halfback20 : 7/25/2015 1:29 pm : link
and they offered me Sunday ticket for half off. My contract was up so I figured they could do better. I told them I wanted to cancel and she said she would discount my bill $10 a month for a year, give me a $15 bill credit and just asked me to think about it for a few days.

I called back today and explained that I want to cancel because I only have DirecTV for NFL Sunday Ticket, and I can't afford it at full price. I told the rep that they offered it to me for half off last time, but I can't afford that either. She offered me Sunday Ticket free, discounted HBO/Showtime, and a free wireless genie that you can move from room to room. Add that on top of the $10 off a month and $15 bill credit and I'm happy.

It definitely all depends on who you get as a rep when you call. The lady I talked to today did not mess around. She offered free Sunday Ticket right off the bat when I told her that's what I wanted.

did you have to sign a new 2 year agreement?

my problem with DTV is they always offer me all these discounts and free sunday ticket max, etc. and my bill is always $180 per month (I have (had) 4 TV's whole home DVR with genies) and their most expensive programming package, but that equivalent on FiOS is half the price.

Exactly. Last year I said I want to cancel and I have been a subscriber 15+ years. The Rep said ok. I was surprised and hung up.
Reading these stories every year I think

I set up a cancellation date
MookGiants : 7/27/2015 4:29 pm : link
last week after going through the regular number and getting to retentions produced zero results. Definitely seemed after the AT&T talks started that they tightened their belts a little bit.

Anyways, found a number on another forum to call, and when I got to someone they asked if I received an email or a phone call. I told them I received a phone call, and then the girl asked why I was leaving directv. Told her price, and she without hesitation offered me the new customer offer basically. Reduced my bill by 43 dollars a month for a year with auto bill pay, and gave me sunday ticket max for free. I also added two new receivers for free which came with a 24 month agreement. I believe without the receivers I would have only had to agree to a 12 month agreement.

FYI, I still had 4 months to go on my contract.

Here is the number that I called today, I set up my cancellation last thursday.

1-855-407-3110

Set up your cancellation date for a few weeks out, then wait a few days and call that number. I actually waited on hold for 10 minutes, hung up when no one answered, then they called me back 10 minutes later.
I called to cancel
pjcas18 : 7/27/2015 4:33 pm : link
and they told me you couldn't cancel in the future.

I had to call back.

I did cancel - everything except Sunday Ticket, but they technically put all my equipment on "vacation" which can exist that way with no limit, except Sunday ticket - which they gave me for $99.

I thought it was a good deal, no contract. And I have FiOS on all my TV's.

I've never heard of being able to just have sunday ticket, interesting. I thought you at a minimum had to have entertainment or choice package. I know some people suspend their account as soon as the football season ends (you can suspend for 6 months every year). That's awesome that you were able to pull that off I just dont see why DirecTV would agree to that.
I do have service
pjcas18 : 7/28/2015 8:00 pm : link
9.99 per month - lowest level of service they offer for 1 TV.

but even with that and the $100 I paid for Sunday Ticket max I save money, significant money, off that and my FiOS bill combined.

my company pays me for my FiOS bill, so it makes a lot of sense for me.
I didnt even know
MookGiants : 7/28/2015 8:19 pm : link
they had a 9.99 plan. That's absurd.

Still have no idea how you got that, but props. If they made that available to even 10% of their customers they'd go bankrupt.

My bill is around $100 a month right now. I'm ok with it
