Brooks NFL.com: Giants, Ravens, Jets boast instant impact rookie classes in 2015
3) New York Giants
"The Giants are poised to make a playoff push behind an explosive offense that features a dynamic big-play weapon entering Year 2 (Odell Beckham Jr.) and a crafty slot receiver returning from injury (Victor Cruz). Given the immense potential of the Giants' passing game, it is imperative for the team to get solid play from Ereck Flowers at left tackle. Although Flowers is better suited to play on the right side based on his skills and inexperience, an injury to Will Beattypushed the massive rookie over to the blind side, and the Giants need him to play at a high level to keep Eli Manning upright in a division that features several imposing pass rushers off the edge. Defensively, the Giants are counting on Landon Collins to become a pivotal playmaker between the hashes as the designated "MOF" (middle of the field) enforcer. Mykkele Thompson could join Collins in the deep middle to shore up Big Blue's pass-coverage woes. Jason Pierre-Paul's iffy status could force Owamagbe Odighizuwa into the rotation as a situational player. Given Steve Spagnuolo's preference for a deep D-line group, Odighizuwa could be a key component to the Giants' defensive resurgence."

Corry CBS Sports: Agent's Take: The players at a career crossroads for each NFC team
"New York Giants
Jason Pierre-Paul, DE: Pierre-Paul must figure out how to adapt to the amputation of his right index finger following a Fourth of the July fireworks accident. It remains to be seen whether Pierre-Paul, who was given a $14.813 million franchise tag after generating 12.5 sacks (eighth in the NFL) in 2014, will be the same player as he was before the accident.

Victor Cruz, WR: Cruz was arguably the NFL’s best slot wide receiver when he suffered a season ending torn patellar tendon tear last October. He will no longer be the Giants’ primary receiving target with 2014 first-round pick Odell Beckham Jr. emerging during his absence. Cruz’s days in New York could be numbered if he’s unable to return to his pre-injury form because he has an $8 million salary and $9.9 million cap number in 2016."

Interesting to note perhaps is that the Giants seem to be pushing
BlueLou : 7/25/2015 7:51 am : link
Kuhn to the #1 tech spot at DT, so it seems. He's been asked to get bigger and stronger and now he's 320# after arriving as a (older) rookie at 299#. Bromley mentioned that he's been asked to get bigger and stronger himself, so that he can play 1 tech too, even though he himself says he's a better fit at 3 tech.

And of course adding Ellis. In sum it seems the Giants are happy with Big Hank playing the 3 tech, and are desperately looking still to replace what Linval Joseph gave them at the 1 tech.

So the speculation when they let LJ walk - because they had his replacement (at 1 tech) on the roster in Big Hank - that may have been the plan but it is working out rather differently than imagined.

did I read it right? If the Cruz does not return to form and the Giants save around 8 mil if they cut him next year?

The way I read it, they'll save $6.1 million on the cap, but have $3.8 million in dead money if they cut him, and it wouldn't matter if it is a pre- or post-June 1st cut.

But that'll never happen. They'd renegotiate before they cut him, imho.
