but I was hoping for a trade like the Atlanta one. Third tier assets for vets who someone just wanted to move to save salary. Baseball is so finicky -- go for buy lows. 2016-17 make more sense to move big pieces if necessary.

why is it douchey to say, I think we all were, just that some of us hope it isn't the only moves the FO makes. Some people are clamoring for Parra. I don't think Parra is a "we're going for it" move, I think he's a settling probably buy high move. Gomez, Upton, Cespedes, Tulo IMO those are we're pushing in our chips to the center of the table and going for it kind of move.
and I hope a move like that can be done without core assets. but who knows. and that's just my personal preference.
Will close to within a game with a win I believe. The Dodgers are dragging their feet on pitching and it could cost them. Every time they trot a Lee or his ilk out in a playoff race they are asking for trouble.

Totally agree. Baseball is like that. Uribe could wind up having a better two months than Tulo, Upton, Bruce etc . . .
I assume he is just being modest and not wanting anyone to think he is just saying he wanted that type of trade after the fact. It wasn't necessary to say but nice that he did.

False modesty on my part. It's so easy to say "good trade" after the guys get timely hits.
But generally I've been supportive of small scale trades. I dont think this is the year to push the chips to the middle of the table for pending UFAs, and the assets I'd be most okay moving, Wheeler, Montero, Nimmo and one of the catchers, all could use some time to recover value.
but it appears the Brewers are being greedy with their asking prices.
Agreed, but the extra year of control, team option in 2017, and the Brewers asking price I would be happy with Bruce. He would be a big upgrade and change the complexion of this lineup.
If they can get Bruce for minor prospects that's one thing
but I sure hope they don't give up much for him. I'm not sold on the guy at all. I just don't see much more than a .250 hitter whose power numbers have been inflated having played in that band box in Cincinnati.
No one took that Eddie C WFAN crap seriously. The question isn't whether they will take on a couple million for rental help. The question is will they add significant long term payroll if David Wright is done and they can't maneuver out from under his contract.

Yes there was. There was that bullshit report that we couldn't even take on Zobrists 3 million dollars which caused panic and was utter crap. Then after they heard the Braves were chipping in cash they thought it was most of their contracts. It wasn't. I think Sandy probably STILL has an extra 5-10 million right now judging by the players he's been connected with in trade rumors.
As for what you are talking about concerning Wright? We have close to a complete roster right now, especially if we bring in a Gomez or a Bruce and thats including next year. If we don't, with Colon, Murphy, Parnell, Gee, and possibly Niese coming off the books in 2016 I absolutely think we can add one player in their place. It won't be impossible.
but whatever, I don't judge (or I try not to) and I guess some people do, so no harm in saying it.
My theory is the Mets CAN BE good enough to win now. they have a legit rotation, a legit bullpen (normally) and deficiencies in the lineup, if they can get a bat and get TDA back plus a couple guys come out of their funks like Duda and this team is a contender THIS year.
I'm not saying be impatient, but if you can get Upton with a window to negotiate an extension or Tulo, I do it and hope to win this year.
Friday - Harvey vs. Gonzalez
Saturday - JdG vs. Ross
Sunday - Thor vs. Zimmerman
Obviously they have 3 games against SD first, but if they can take care of business and make the 1 big move they're looking for, that's going to be an electric atmosphere.
I just dont trust his hip. I'd rather pay more for a younger, healthier, lesser player.
He's not my only choice, I'd be fine with him, but it's the point. If the Mets try and get Parra or Venable and say hey look "we're going for it" I think it's settling.
think about it, the dodgers gets Hamels (for example) and the Mets answer is Parra or Venable. I just don't think it's enough.
if the Nats get Kimbrel or Papelbon or Price or someone like that and the Mets get Venable.
Whether it's Tulo or Cespedes or Upton or I guess Bruce though I think less of him, I just think the Mets have the potential to compete (for a title) this year and they have the assets, so I'd like to see them truly go for it.
I'll admit, he scares me. Injury concerns, age, money and Coors Field pushes the bust potential sky high. But, I think that he potentially changes the character of the team in a way that no other possibly available player does.
What's reasonable, though? Damned if I know.
Jake is definitely our ace, but Thor isn't far behind
Hell, I think we can make a run right now if TDA and Matz come back healthy. We are at least as good as the Cubs and Giants(who have a brutal stretch coming up)
I love the trade we made already and if we did nothing else I won't be too upset. That said, I can't see it. We are literally connected to every big name out there. Sandy is working the phones and I expect something else.
The Mets took on 2.5 million dollars in the Uribe and Johnson deals. The Braves chipped in 500,000. Pretty much exactly what I predicted.
Mets wanted Braves to take back Mayberry, Braves paid them to just cut him. Couldn't help but laugh thinking back to some of the offseason debates about Mayberry ;)
Yeah he ripped that. I thought it was leaving the ballpark.
What the fuck, lmao
LMFAO!!!

hit a ball that far in the last two seasons.

not a pinch hitter but normally Campbell would be taking these at bats and do very little with it
Lets hope our bullpen doesn't fail us now after half of a season of managerial abuse.
It's been a while. Ike Davis hit a walk-off Grand slam last year that I recall being a bomb, that was early though iirc.

That's probably out in like half of the parks in this league. Getting closer to looking like a team that can really compete.

Mejia and Parnell are pretty fresh so Terry would have to really abuse them (or they'd just not pitch well)

Mets pitchers Noah Syndergaard and Logan Verrett riding the 7 from the game. John Rocker would be proud.

He was 2-5 and DH'd today. Caught 5 innings yesterday.

Yeah when I posted that it was up to the minute.
Playoff lineup.
1.) Gomez
2.) Granderson
3.) Wright
4.) Duda
5.) Tulowitzki
6.) Murphy
7.) TDA
8.) Conforto
Bench. Uribe, Johnson, Cuddyer, Flores, Plawecki
and then I woke up.. lol

Really can't wait til next weekend. Hoping we have TdA back +1 more bat. Golden opportunity to steal this division from them.
After this brutal July I don't feel the least bit bad about it either.
