NFT: MLB trade rumors

superspynyg : 7/26/2015 10:47 am
here are some of the latest rumors:

KC almost acquired Cueto from the Reds. One of the players failed medically and the trade fell through.

Red Sox are very interested in the following pitchers: Gray (oak) Cueto (REDS) and Currasco (Clev)

Washington wants Papelbon but he will reject a trade if he is not the closer.

Rangers have re engaged the Phillies about Cole Hamels. Not sure how far they are willing to go.

Mets made a run for Tulo but Col balked. Mets willing to Trade Wheeler for a hitter. They offered him to the Brewers for Parra but they refused.

Yanks sit on their big fat asses. No surprise, Cashman is willing to put more quarters into the 2b carousel.

Hanley has been a complete disaster in left field.
ktinsc : 7/27/2015 11:27 pm : link
The Portly Panda has not been much better playing third. Do they accelerate his transition to 1st by playing him there now? They could go with Holt / Ramirez at 3rd for the rest of the year. I just couldn't trust Ramirez at 1st at this point. He looks more indifferent in the field than Manny did.

I don't know but the major league talent evaluation just has to improve.

And JBJ replaces him. Or Nava gets moved. So replace a LHB with a LHB. I heard Uyemura and/or Junichi are possible. Also Hanigan. The only one I'd like to keep is Tazawa. I don't know why they sent Brian Johnson back after his last start. I would like to see him up for a while.

I agree, Taz is still young and effective, even with overuse. Moving him at this point just creates another hole to fill. Time to get younger.
It's absolutely precious how you guys still pretend that
Greg from LI : 7/27/2015 11:33 pm : link
Jackie Bradley is a major league hitter.
I'd keep Hanigan if only for his effect thus far on Porcello
WeatherMan : 7/27/2015 11:34 pm : link
long term getting him on track is part of the plan, and his splits with Hanigan catching him are light years ahead of the other guys this season - 37 IP, 3.16 ERA and a 221/278/336 triple slash against 9.28 319/370/604 in 21.1 with Leon and 5.63 316/353/474 in 54.1 with Swihart.

Shhhhh...Top farm system or something.
he's lighting it up in AAA Greg
WeatherMan : 7/27/2015 11:35 pm : link
no reason not to give him another shot in an otherwise lost season at the MLB level. He's got an elite glove, if he can be even a replacement level MLB bat that's a future trade piece of decent value.
After 500 ABS he's a .193/.266/.277 hitter
Greg from LI : 7/27/2015 11:38 pm : link
That's not a small sample and he's not especially young anymore.
nobody is projecting him to be the next big thing
WeatherMan : 7/27/2015 11:42 pm : link
the 304/377/471 line in AAA is a big step up off last year where he even floundered at that level. If Coco Crisp can carve out a 14 year career there's hope for a player with the glove skills of his caliber.
I almost agree with Greg
Bill L : 7/27/2015 11:46 pm : link
He presses and hasn't proven he can consistently hit but down in Pawtucket he finds himself. I'm hoping that if he comes up with a steady job he'll relax and find himself there as well. I don't agree with Greg in the sense that I think that the ability to hit is within him. And with his youth, it's too early to write him off. One concern I do have is that he's been hitting a lot of home runs in AAA lately. He's not a power hitter and trying to be one screwed him up when he was up for an extended time last.

On Porcello, hang an won't be here for sure once Vazquez gets back so he might as well use this season to grow up and realize that how he pitches is on him and not on a baby sitter. Same goes with Bucc actually.

That's if he can hit at or near RL. If he cant, he's nothing more than a defensive replacement in the OF. Not that valuable.
that's if Buchholz even pitches again this year
WeatherMan : 7/27/2015 11:49 pm : link
dominate for a couple months then back to the DL he goes, going into this season thinking they could rely on him at the top of the rotation turned out to be a massive mistake.
On panda, the time frame doesn't fit
Bill L : 7/27/2015 11:50 pm : link
But I'm hoping that Hanley plays first next year and the following year Hanley moves to DH, Panda to first, and some combination of players that starts to wean Devers in at 3rd. Moncada is going to be awesome (I hope) but Devers is the one I want to see. He and Anderson Espinoza and Moncada. I'm not really unhappy with this year, if they hold onto these guys. I'm looking forward to a few years from now.
Bradley definitely has to prove it to me
Bill L : 7/27/2015 11:52 pm : link
But he's not a power guy, so I can't really understand how his AAA is not translating. That's why I said, I think it's more internal than lack of ability.
the only way to find out is to play him
WeatherMan : 7/27/2015 11:54 pm : link
if he comes back up and spends the next 2 months stinking up the bigs again he's done, but he's earned one last shot with his improved line in the minors this season.
Agree
Bill L : 7/27/2015 11:55 pm : link
It's not like he's blocked
there's no reason to move any of the kids now
WeatherMan : 7/28/2015 12:02 am : link
buy an ace on the market this offseason, there will be a few available and between Napoli, Victorino, and Masterson coming off the books alone that's 38.5 mil freed up.

As a Yankee fan, I love this move.
Kulish29 : 7/28/2015 1:50 am : link
The Jays are likely stuck with a player that has major injury concerns and a ridiculous contract. Yet, what they should have been targeting was an upgrade to their pitching staff.

And he's going to be playing on astroturf. Not the best surface for someone with his injuries to be playing on so often, I'd imagine.

Exactly. I don't dispute the fact that he is a great player, if/when healthy. But, why would one of the best offensive teams in baseball trade for such a fragile luxury when, pitching is the most glaring need?

Yup. The only way this would suck is if Toronto somehow goes bananas and makes a crazy offer to get Hamels. I don't even know if they have the firepower to make that kind of move. A guy like Samardzija doesn't scare me and doesn't turn them into a playoff team either. It's basically Hamels, Price or bust if they really want to make a difference.
How about this for a night's work?
Bill L : 7/28/2015 8:51 am : link
In one of the Red Sox minor league games last night, the catcher caught the first 14 innings of a game and then pitched a perfect 15th inning to earn a Save.
Watch the Yankees trade for Reyes now
Giants2012 : 7/28/2015 9:01 am : link
That's a very fast lineup with Reyes added. Add in the power of Arod and Tex and that's a is very interesting team.

Yep, as I said in the other thread, Didi's hitting .294/.333/.397 over the last month. With his glove, that's plenty of offense.

Somewhat off-topic.....have you ever seen a guy have a truly great season that was more obscure or quieter than Paul Goldschmidt's? Virtually no one talks about him yet he's putting up a .345/.465/.611 line.

Not to mention 22 HRs and a league leading 75 RBIs, kid is a beast. He is having an MVP type season, too bad Arizona isn't contending or else I think he would be getting a lot more attention.

Yup, which is why I think the death of the old Yankees-style FA signings was overblown. We're going to see players like Goldschmidt who will have left significant money on the table by signing early extensions, and I think truly elite players will start to think twice about them.

BS - adding more speed to that lineup and a guy who gets on base is gold. Not to mention, the infield just got that much better.
How does the infield get better when Gregorius is the superior glove?

Locked up through his age 31 season. I mean I don't "feel bad" but he could be looking at a RIDICULOUS deal otherwise.

Reyes has been awful defensively this season and his OBP is .322.

I'd rather stick with Didi than take on an aging, sub par defender with a bad contract.
