Two more pretty clean innings out of Eovaldi would be awesome
dpinzow : 7/26/2015 4:17 pm : link
Texas will be a tough series on the pitching staff with the heat (and possibly the Rangers' offense) and we'll really need to use the pen in Arlington because the starters will have a tough time going more than 6
Yeah, just thinking it
section125 : 7/26/2015 4:19 pm : link
would be nice for Eovaldi to get the CG. Joe won't let that happen, though.
Didi gets there and just

doesn't make a play. 3rd time today.

7:2?
That might be it or Eovaldi
dpinzow : 7/26/2015 4:43 pm : link
7 strong but the first two get on in the 8th. Rothschild to the mound though instead of Girardi

Betances getting ready in a hurry, but not sure why we'd need him in a 7-1 game
Eovaldi gets another DP out of Torii Hunter

Good play by Didi on the scorcher and bad hop
Toronto winning

Eovaldi with a fantastic outing

8 IP and 1 run. The length was better than giving up the 1 run with Texas next
For all the bitching on BBI
section125 : 7/26/2015 4:48 pm : link
about Eovaldi, he's 10-2 and looks to be getting stronger as the year goes on.
Great job today. Saved the BP. Might be McCann teaching him to pitch.

Toronto's run differential is almost +100 so they should be a lot better than one game over .500. They must have a crap bullpen to win that many blowouts but still be mediocre record-wise
Good point about McCann.
Mark C : 7/26/2015 4:52 pm : link
He is incredibly valuable to this team.
Who finishes this off?
section125 : 7/26/2015 4:55 pm : link
Wilson?
Eovaldi starts the 9th
dpinzow : 7/26/2015 4:57 pm : link
so Joe really wants to preserve the pen

John and Susan are saying that Betances hasn't pitched in five days, so it's probably him.
That was dumb.
section125 : 7/26/2015 4:58 pm : link
Why start the inning with such a short leash...

Hopefully not because we've got 4 in Texas and we'll need Betances/Miller for 3 of them
(I'm listening to this game online
Mark C : 7/26/2015 5:00 pm : link
from Costa Rica, so I guess I'm a few batters behind.)
So it's Wilson?
Mark C : 7/26/2015 5:04 pm : link
Two days in a row, with a six run lead? I don't get it.
OOPs
Mark C : 7/26/2015 5:05 pm : link
forget that last post. One too many pina coladas...
But six days without pitching
Mark C : 7/26/2015 5:06 pm : link
is a lot for Betances.
Wilson gives up 2 hits
dpinzow : 7/26/2015 5:07 pm : link
and the Yanks are going to have to use Betances after all

Joe botched this a little by letting Eovaldi start the 9th
How long
Mike Graves : 7/26/2015 5:08 pm : link
Till miller comes in
So stupid to have started
section125 : 7/26/2015 5:08 pm : link
Eovaldi in the 9th.
Just bring in Betances and end it...or Wilson.
Suzuki lines into a DP
dpinzow : 7/26/2015 5:12 pm : link
to end it, Headley to Jones

Awesome series win
Was it that difficult?
section125 : 7/26/2015 5:13 pm : link
Geezus.
Great series win.
section125 : 7/26/2015 5:16 pm : link
This team has guts. Lose CC in the rotation and this team is as good as any short of St Louis or Kansas City And not far behind those two.
...
christian : 7/26/2015 5:18 pm : link
Great series win. Eovaldi is really rounding into a good power pitcher. I don't mind Joe letting him go out and try to get the complete game. Lots of production from the bottom of the order. The Yankees are winning a lot of different ways, which is exactly how you got to the playoffs.
He only three

5 pitches sweet
Great job by my man Headley
B in ALB : 7/26/2015 5:19 pm : link
And the juggernaut, S. Drew.

And how about that Garret Jones? Tex better watch his back at first. Jones was catching all the throws to first base today. Didn't even drop one!
6th series win in a row
dpinzow : 7/26/2015 5:20 pm : link
14-5 in July
No problem with bringing Eovaldi in for the ninth.
Mark C : 7/26/2015 5:26 pm : link
But if you're gonna make that decision you can't give him just one batter with a six run lead.... Aw, hell, I'm nitpicking. This team is impressing the hell out of me, and Girardi is a big part of that. Brilliant series win.

You guys quote these types of #'s all the time and that's all well and good but you play every day in baseball for 6 months. You truly are what your record says you are. I'm all for advanced stats, they have revolutionized the thinking of the game often in a good way. However I don't buy the "luck" thing. 4 months into the season you are what your record says you are. The Jays are a mediocre team with strengths and weaknesses. The weaknesses have dragged the strengths down to .500
...
christian : 7/26/2015 6:44 pm : link
I don't think run differential is an exotic stat, if you are scoring a lot more runs than you are giving up you are losing a lot of close games. The Jays have 18 relief losses to the Yankees 9. That's the difference.

I agree you are who your records says you are, and a bad bullpen will kill you in modern baseball, but don't be surprised if they add a couple of bullpen pieces and then get a lot better.

Chapman or Kimbrel is an absolute must for the Jays at the deadline. Their front office is committing malpractice without a closer when they've lost 18 games due to their pen
Toronto is a woeful 10-20
dpinzow : 7/26/2015 6:51 pm : link
in one-run games and will most likely be 10-21 should they lose today (tied 5-5 in the bottom of the 9th at Seattle)
could be I might have been a bit harsh
Stu11 : 7/26/2015 6:57 pm : link
I just hear a lot of "that team can't keep it up" here and frankly at this point I think we are beyond that. Meh who cares about the mediocre Jays. Time to start getting a bit excited about this Yankees team. they showed a lot this weekend. Minnesota has been one of the best teams at home this year and the past 2 days we clubbed them to death. Will be interesting to see if cash pulls the trigger on a guy like Hammels or a lefty OF bat or maybe a 2b.

I think the Yankees are primed for a pennant race, and I am very optimistic. I want them to add a bat, either at 2nd base or OF. If the Jays improve from wildly bad to just average in the bullpen they have every chance of making it close, and I don't want that at all.

I don't buy the Rangers rumors on Hamels. I think Ruben is trying to use Texas to drive up the price for us or the Dodgers. It makes no sense for Texas to pick up Hamels when they're not really in contention
Franklin Gutierrez with a walk off HR for the M's
dpinzow : 7/26/2015 7:17 pm : link
Toronto loses another 1-run game, 6-5, and the Yanks lead is 6.5
Gutierrez with the walk-off!

6 1/2 clear in the division. Nice
6 1/2 is the number
dpinzow : 7/26/2015 7:20 pm : link
IIRC the Yanks have never lost a pennant (pre-1969) or a division lead (since 1969) when they've led by 6 1/2 games at any point in the season
And another update on the Hamels chase
dpinzow : 7/26/2015 7:35 pm : link
Heyman tweets that the Yanks will not trade Severino in any Hamels deal. We already knew that Judge was untouchable but Cash is also excluding Severino.

That means the Yanks might be offering a Bird/Sanchez package
the team is just

New highwater mark of 13 games over .500. And another great series win, this time on the road. Just keep winning series and we'll be sitting in the drivers seat the rest of the way, at the very least as far as the division goes.
Remember when some were bent out of shape about trading Shane Greene?

Getting knocked around tonight by the Sawx and, hasn't had a start of more than 5 innings since May 25th.

Only in MLB. He did OK for the Toledo Mud Hens after he was sent down.

Anyway, heard late last night on WFAN that the Yanks have won their last 6 series. Not bad at all.
