but summer is the busy time of year as a youth librarian, so I work every Saturday as well. I don't mind most of the time, but next week is our "lock-in"/sleepover, which is....a doozie.
less so as I get older. When I was a young lawyer I worked probably 75% of weekends. Now I rarely ever go to the office on the weekend, but I'd say I do more than 30 minutes of work 3 weekend days per month on average. Technically I work 365 days a year -- I've probably at least checked my work email for 3500+ consecutive days.
8-4 (although it is rare I leave at 4). During the Spring months, I sometimes work evenings (until 7) and an occasional 1/2 day on a Saturday.
On top of that, I was working P/T 2-3 nights a week (6-12) and/or a Sunday morning (5-1) in another job. I haven't returned to that job since being released from the hospital in May.

This describes me as well.
RE: I work 6am to 6pm and I have every other weekend off.
I'm a software engineer. My first role was in production support. I rarely had to work weekends, but I was on call 24/7, so unless I was on vacation, if one of my clients had a production issue at 2 AM I was expected to get on the phone for triage. That rarely happened, but knowing I could be called at any time was in many ways a greater source of stress than actually having to work the weekend.
More recently I've moved into new product development. I work longer hours during the week - usually 8 AM to 6 PM, sometimes earlier or later - but on weekends I'm free. The only real exception is if we're behind at the tail end of our release cycle - our typical release cycle is about 4 months, and if we're behind I may have a week or two of crunch where I'm working 70 hours instead of the typical 45-50. Even the occasional crunch isn't so stressful, though, because I can anticipate it and prepare.
Right now we're producing every other weekend, plus of course maintenance on the down weekends. Although I'm in quality now, I come from operations so I can basically work any weekends I want. Although I'm exempt, I still get paid tjme and 1/2 for anything over 40.
My normal hours are 6a-2p, but for the past few weeks I've been working 2p-10p to train a new production supervisor. Last week of that is this week.
My hours are generally pretty damned flexible which is really nice and a perk of being there for 21yrs.
I should be doing one weekend a month since that's the traditional reservist schedule. However, my reservist job is a bit flexible, so I do two Fridays a month instead. I will usually go into my civilian work at about 6:30am and put in four hours before I drive down to my reserve work location and put in eight hours and drive home at about 7pm...those end up being long days though. Thankfully, my civilian work schedule is flexible, so I just make up the missed few hours throughout the month.
Every 8 weeks my schedule changes it can get annoying since some of the schedules really suck like working 3 11 with Wednesday Thursdays off.
From '94 to '96 we rotated shifts every 5 weeks in production. When I moved to maintenance we rotated every two weeks and had 4 shifts- one of which covered the off days of the other three. It was the most fucked up schedule I ever worked:
Mon 4p-12a
Tues 4p-12a
Weds Off
Thurs 12p-8a
Fri 12p-8a
Sat 8am-4p
Sun Off
Note that Wednesday "off" was exactly 24hrs: Tuesday night at midnight to Wednesday night at midnight.
Luckily everyone recognized how much bullshit that schedule was and we only had it for a few years.
I've been going in 7am to 12:30pm Saturdays for a bit now, probably continue into December. Saturday mornings fly by so I don't mind them.
I'll always go in if asked to but I prefer my time off to a few hours of overtime.
The worst shift I have ever worked was 7pm - 7am, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. They called me in early so many times I just started showing up at 4pm during the week. I did almost 5 years of that before finally walking.
no 80's pop rock fans? first thing that popped in to my mind. Basically I work when I need to. From the end of March to May I was at our corporate Headquarters near Philly every weekend, but haven't worked one since.
I had 131 days straight this year before my girlfriend got sick and have now taken a few days off. I think I've had 8 days off this year. But I love what I do and being on the water everyday. I really have no stress at work so I'd rather be on a boat making money. I also like taking off Sundays in the fall and traveling to game or 2 each year. Trying for 3 this year with 2 "local" games in FL.
Don't have to work weekends, but am on call about 50% of the weekends a year. Doesn't happen most weekends, but when it does it can be quite the pain in the butt as it is an emergency.
Monday 830-530
Tuesday 1230-430
I hate working Sundays even though it's easy.
On top of that, I was working P/T 2-3 nights a week (6-12) and/or a Sunday morning (5-1) in another job. I haven't returned to that job since being released from the hospital in May.
Part time Job
7-9:30
Will be going back to school in fall.
My wife and I try to see who's schedule sucks more she works M-Sat but only one job.
This describes me as well.
thats brutal. medical field? those 12 hour shifts are tough.

Tuesday 7-4

half of the Fridays 8-5
half of Saturdays 24 hours
I'm a fed. I had the grades in law school to gun for a job with a big firm, but the more I learned about the lifestyle, the less I liked the idea.
